how important are waifus to you? would you lose interest in something solely for lack of it?
what things immediately turn you off from a story? and on?
would you a 5/10 story with 10/10 waifus, or 10/10 story with no waifus?
just how important is it to pander?

10/10 story with no waifus
It's not as bad in western stuff, but anime is more and more "cute little girls doing pointless things for the amusement of borderline pedophiles"
>>93617317
I'm pretty sure thousands of other casuals below will write the same thing as I do, so let me be the first:
Waifus are not important to the story quality for me, so yes, I would do both.
But if I watched a series and a female character I liked got killed, that might potentially turn me off from the series I guess, but only if its' quality isn't that great anyway.
That depends on what you mean by waifu, OP. Do you mean the characters obviously intended to be waifu bait without giving them a lot of redeeming qualities, or cardboard cutout qualities, like most garbage bin moe shows, or characters that are great, and most people like them because they're great characters?
Waifus are literally not important.
Anyone who says they are is a weirdo and hurts the medium of storytelling at large.
Having waifus and pandering is fine, but they are not important to stories on a grand scale.

>would you a 5/10 story with 10/10 waifus
When that happens you get a Star VS, and we've all seen how cancerous it can get.
>>93617317
Creating waifus must be a tricky job in this day and age. Since almost everyone must have theirs by now. You're only allowed one, right?
So I assume by waifu you mean fapbait.
Waifus are the emotional crutch of the weak willed and desperate.
>>93617317
You need to establish what "waifu" means for the purpose of this thread, op. It can sometimes mean "cute female" or "fictional girl I'm in love with"
>>93617317
5/10 story with waifus. I define waifus as "likable characters", though, so a 10/10 with no waifus basically means try-hard award bait stories that I have zero interest in.
>>93617317
I don't have a waifu because I'm not a neckbeard loser who has to shit up imageboards with his retarded anime girlfriend fantasies.
>>93617317
It doesn't matter unless you can't discuss something without it being waifu posting
>>93617317
>would you a 5/10 story with 10/10 waifus
no. and I say that from experience.
>>93617317
Anything over 2 1/2 hours generally needs waifus to keep me interested. However a 5/10 story with 10/10 waifus quickly becomes no story as I'll just skip to the parts with my preferred waifus in.
>>93617669
fuck off then
>>93617317
I think Japan has discovered the secret to animation success - People will watch well written shows with good characters OR they'll watch poorly written shows with shit characters IF they have waifus.
The latter is cheaper to churn out, which is why 90% of anime is now waifu bait and the 10% that isn't is actually good. But people watch 100% of it anyway because they still watch the rest for the waifus.
>>93617317
10/10 story, because good stories are harder to find than good waifus
>>93617317
I'm so glad I don't have a waifu right now, I emotionally breakdown when I do and sob myself to sleep.
waifus are for video games, not comics
>>93618742
>that image
great taste and best canon ship
>>93617466
as good as you can get with 5/10 writing I suppose
>>93617501
what I see more often than not is the opposite. many say one thing but don't practice what they preach
>>93617570
>>93617620
ah, yes, fapbait then.
a hot character in a shit show vs un ugly character in a great show more or less
>ITT: characters are not important
HURR DURR
fuck yourselves
>>93617317
A good waifu can keep me from being turned off by a somewhat bad story, but I am far more likely to continue watching a good story with no waifus.
