>But some folk spotted another series absent from the [Marvel Legacy] lineup. Runaways. Announced in hype over at Entertainment Weekly as a new ongoing series by Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka for September [13] and solicited as such, it didn’t turn up in Marvel Legacy’s list.

>Rowell told (((Vox))) [http://archive.fo/crAlr], “Starting in September, I’ll be the ongoing writer for Runaways. And if people buy it, I will continue to write it. And it’s the sort of thing I can do while I write books, so I’ve already written the first six issues.”

>After all, it had had 64 issues previously published, the new Runaways #1 could have been Runaways #65. But in the Marvel Legacy announcement, it wasn’t even mentioned, let alone given a Legacy homage cover and a storyline title. Had it been cancelled already after just one issue?

>Maybe not. Because, despite the announcement, maybe it’s not actually an ongoing series. And so not appearing in the Marvel Legacy ongoing list. After all, Marvel’s David Gabriel was quoted as saying that Marvel doesn’t like to announce that comics are limited series as such because it’s a death knell for the comic. [True sauce for that quote: https://icv2.com/articles/news/view/37153/marvel-retailer-summit-day-1]

>Oh and the Amazon listing for the collected issues? Those six issues that Rowell has already written for next year in Runaways… no Vol 1 or similar listed in its title, which an ongoing series would get. [Screencap related. Archive: http://archive.fo/6bChh]

>Maybe it always was a six issue limited series but Marvel Comics just didn’t want to say? Or is this just the left hand not knowing what the claws the right hand is popping?

Eventually fans are going to catch on to stealth minis, right? They can't keep pulling a fake out on everyone, can they?

>And it’s the sort of thing I can do while I write books, so I’ve already written the first six issues.”
Yeah that's a good sign. You can tell she put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this funnybook on the side while she worked on her actual job.

It's probably one of those things when they announce something but bounce it back when they'll have a bunch of new #1s to launch en masse.

So if it's not september, it'll be november or december even.

I hate the YA novelists writing comic books trend so much
>>
>>93595073
with the constant relaunches, marvel's entire line is a stealth mini. and I think people ARE catching on.
>>
>>93595886
I mean, there's a lot of books where it's pretty obivous that they're stealth minis. Like Tom King's Vision. People thought that would continue, but it was so obviously a stealth mini.
>>
>>93595914
It lasted like 12 issues, no? I don't think it counts as a mini at this point.
>>
>>93597222
I think the definition of mini is debatable.
>>
>>93594942
The show isn't even out yet.

Making a comic so long before the thing comes out is pointless.

People used to call 12 issue series maxis.
>>
>>93597629
Well, then I guess I'm wrong. Another case closed, and only minimum casualties this time. Good work, team.
>>
>>93597531
Not really, the trade will probably sell better if it comes out closer to the show or even before since more people will buy it before the show comes out, rather than 3+ months after the show is out.

It's not like Runaways is gonna be a big seller in floppies anyway, nothing for marvel is for long anymore.
>>
>>93594942
That's fine. Launch the title as a graphic novel and see if the numbers work. Maybe release floppies as some kind of short-run collector item afterwards if it's successful.
