It's because DC doesn't really make an effort to let the characters be out there. Look at the Flash for example, he became surprisingly popular after the TV series, the same is happening with Wonder Woman after a movie. Green Lantern was popular under the right creative team. Slowly DC is realizing they have characters other than Batman.

As a kid, I thought Batman was the coolest hero. He had the best gadgets and the neatest enemies. Now that I'm almost 30, I've had time to think and now I've come to the conclusion kid me had terrible taste. Mine's Captain Atom, and yes, it does suck.

The guy gets hardly any respect and his primary purpose in most stories is to explode.

He's most famous for inspiring another character in the most well-known comic story of all time.

Every once in a while he gets to be awesome, but he's usually lost in the shuffle.

DC has pretty good characters in general. There's no one character I hate, although I find a lot of the villains tiresome, especially in their post COIE characterizations, and HQ in particular, who is tiresome AND annoying.

When they are well written or interesting characterizations, I enjoy Superman, The Flash (both Wally and Barry), Aquaman, Booster Gold, Zatanna, Adam Strange, Frankstein, Etrigan, Robin (Dick Grayson)/Nightwing, Kon-El and Lois Lane.

I like a lot of the Vertigo characters but I'm sticking with mainline DC Universe, otherwise Constantine and Dream and others would be on this list.
