I'm glad to see him coming into his own a bit with his own city to watch over again and his own rogues gallery.

Don't get me wrong, Batman has some great villains, but DC needs to stop re-using the same 5-10 ones over and over again.

He has a lot of potential. I definitely don't consider him bland, there's nothing boring about being nice. I like his sense of humor, I like his fighting style (Daredevil is my favorite superhero so I approve of the use of escrima sticks and acrobatics), and I even like how he gets mad and lashes out at people when pushed too hard (see: Donna, Roy, Damian). He can come off as somewhat holier-than-thou due to his moral code.
Still, he has a lot of badly written comics under his belt. No, him having flaws doesn't count as bad writing, at least not in all cases. I find Nightwing Rebirth to be pretty dull, honestly, although I enjoyed Seeley's characterization during Grayson.
Despite /co/'s general opinion on Dixon's Nightwing run, I thought it was great, save for the fact that Bruce was always portrayed as a big bad guy in order to make Dick seem justified.
Oh, and of course the Teen Titans always being rebooted and shuffled around doesn't help him at all. It shits on his legacy and invalidates his relationships with his fellow teammates, platonic or otherwise.

DC is about a couple decades late in trying to promote Nightwing and turning him into something other than a mid level B-List hero. Maybe if they had done so early he might have really been able to become DC's premier young hero, like a Spider-man but not on that level obviously. He's been around for 75+ years as a character and he doesn't have really any stories you can point to as being instant classics with him as the star or ones that can easily translate into movies or TV, and his character is such a mess now with so many other legacy characters getting added and characters like Batman constantly getting deaged.
