He's an interesting dynamic. He's the most aggressive character of the group. His disconnect seems the most extreme. He really highlights the other characters apathy towards Owl. If WWJ was as aggressively cruel to Megg or Mogg as he is to Owl no one would deal with it.

So what's the draw of these? I am fascinated by them, since the characters both disgust me and make me feel pity for them. Is there some greater meaning I am missing out on or is this just it?

I dunno, in a lot of ways I think Owl's worse than Megg.

Owl is a lot more in control of his faculties, he's just a selfish, condescending asshole. There's no scenario in which he's a good person.

Megg COULD be a good person, but she suffers a lot more from depression and various other emotional and mental issues that effect her a lot more than Owl. More to the point, she's very highly influenced by her environment. When she's on her own, or with someone who's relatively less toxic, like Booger, she's pretty cool, a lot moreso than Owl. But people like Mogg and WWJ really bring out the worst qualities in her. They, and her whole living situation, really brings out the worst in her. And Owl and Mogg both make an active effort to keep her in the place, Mogg because he's worked out this perfectly little microchosm where all of his wants and desires are filled at the expense of others, and Owl both because he still wants to fuck Megg and because he has the compulsive need to feel superior to other people, and reinforce how superior he is, even though he's a pathetic piece of shit compared to normal, functional people.

Yeah, some of the details are being changed.

I honestly hope that Owl is still there and on good terms with them though, at that point in time. It makes the story a lot more hard hitting, how well they're doing and how much they're pissed at WWJ.

Some things are getting changed though, like the original was written before Booger was trans and used male pro-nouns, and the story and dialog in general is likely going to get fleshed out a lot more.

Megg has been shown to be genuinely nice a lot more than Mogg or Werewolf Jones, and arguably even more than Owl. But her life is such a hellscape and she's so non-stop blitzed to try and cope that she's really incapable of getting her shit together. Look at Mogg for instance (who is by FAR the worst of the three, fuck that, the worst of all six of them), who's just as much of a druggie, but is way more coherent. Mogg chooses to live as they do, and purposefully keeps Megg down on his level to maintain his lifestyle, even though he knows she's miserable.

But Owl more or less keeps himself where he is partially because deep down he knows it's the best he can do and still feel superior, and also because he's still in love with Megg. But Megg is the one who really really hates where she is, but is truely incapable of getting herself out of the situation.
