Probably not. Filoni has said something to the effect that Season 4 doesn't show the Battle of Scariff because it's supposed to build up to Rogue One. He also said that Season 4's episodes take place right after one another so it's very likely that it's set like half a month before Rogue One/A New Hope which means that it's like 2 years after Season 3.

wrong, its pretty much right after season 3 and it wont be getting very close to rogue one at all, keep in mind Mon Mothma cut ties with Saw like a year or more prior to RO
>>
>>93580947
I know Ani had one of these in TCW, but am I misremembering or did Sabine have a Quadrinaros poster in her cabin on the Ghost, as well?
>>
>>93581793
Dude, you know Ezra is 17 in season 3 right? And he is the same age as Luke.

If Season 4 was two years later, we would be pushing well into, and beyond, A New Hope.

Anyways, Filoni said that there was going to be a small timeskip, then Episodes 1 and 2 to wrap up the Mandalorian Arc. Then another small timeskip, and then the remainder of the season would be fast-paced with no breaks, each episode connecting to the next in one huge climactic story.

It's most like that the show will end a few months before Rogue One, enough time for Hera to settle at Yavin IV.

I also suspect that the show is going to end with a montage showing the surviving characters in the future. It sounds crazy, but we've been getting small clues here and there, and I am growing increasingly confident about this prediction.

That's the point, she's the designated villain that the heroes are permitted to overcome (and kill). The Thrawn novel pointed to this; as it set up Thrawn to a much grander destiny than appearing and dying within 20 episodes of show, while simultaneously giving great villainous character development to Pryce, chronicling her descent from average Jane to Ilsa the She-Wolf. However I only knew for certain that this was the case when the Season 4 trailer revealed Rukh the Noghri; such an obvious EU in-joke red herring can mean only one thing: Invasion

But really, Thrawn lives, Pryce dies, that's how it's gonna be, and I strongly suspect all the other heroes - the Ghost crew, Kallus, Mandos, Lothal Patriots, etc - will survive too. In fact the next character most likely to die after Pryce is Vult Skerris, the sadistic TIE ace.

theres really too many to count especially when you need to take them in context, it might be easier to do them by film
TPM: the theme used when Anakin blows up the Trade Fed ship (reused during the Invisible Hand reentry in ROTS)
AOTC: chasing Zam through Coruscant
ROTS: the wailing choral lamentation that plays throughout the end when Vader's going NOOOO and Padme's funeral and such
R1: none, totally unmemorable soundtrack
ANH: TIE fighter attack
ESB: Rebel Fleet/End Title
ROTJ: Battle of Endor symphony (full 30+ minutes)
TFA: none, totally unmemorable soundtrack

Nope. It took a long ass time for the TFA artbook to get scanned and uploaded (I think we got it earlier this year, or maybe very late last year) so it's probably going to be a while.
>>
>>93584071
those are just a few examples that I particularly liked from the vast and epic compendium of John Williams' genius

JJ hobbled him in TFA resulting in a dull muted score that I cant remember or connect with or associate with star wars at all

Michael Giacchino did slightly better with Rogue One than JW did with TFA, but its still an incredibly underwhelming and boring score with no real ear worm leitmotifs, which beggars belief due to Giacchino's excellent track record for scoring with the likes of The Incredibles and Medal of Honor series

In his defense, he didn't have much time to score it since he was brought in as a last minute replacement for Alexandre Desplat whose entire score was thrown out.

I never said it was bad I said it was almost totally unmemorable. It's a perfectly serviceable generic soundtrack that gets the general emotional and narrative feel across to the audience, but it's bland and forgettable, a cheap product that will not be remembered fondly for the sole reason that it won't be remembered at all, especially compared to the genius of the rest of the composer's repertoire.

Contrast with a bad sountrack like Suicide Squad.

I didn't say that it's hard to place it in Rogue One, I said it's so incredibly easy to do so because it could be in ANY thrilling or suspenseful movie from the past 30 years, not just obviously one. You cannot air those in public and get someone to say "hey, that's the song from Rogue One where such and such happened!"

Additionally, Krennic's theme is just Imperial March with the key inverted.

The two-headed announcer at the "pod" race on Tatooine has got to be one of the most inspired bits in recent memory. Anyone who failed to see the humor of the movie thus must have been out talking on their cellphone.

It would be like Rogue One was made in 1974, George Lucas bought the rights, and then built a cast of characters based around the Death Star plot. Suddenly everything we saw in Rogue One would fit into a bigger narrative.

Yes, and he makes the express point that this is because he's addressing the movie as a human being instead of a pseudointellectual postmodernist deconstructive lit major edgelord. Read the whole review. The prequels were not universally disliked by even the critics, let alone the people.

I was 14 when TPM was released. I didn't care for it then and I don't care for it now. Is it the worst movie ever made? No, of course not. Do I have the suspicion that it could have been better if Lucas had been challenged more? Yes. I wasn't some "edgelord" when I was 14 and I'm not one now. It's just my opinion.
>>
>>93587735
I wasn't accusing you of the fact, I was saying one of the major sources of criticism of lightheartedness is from the "WHY ISNT STAR WARS MORE LIKE GAME OF THRONES????" no fun allowed crowd who think they're hot shit because their high school teachers made them read too deeply into literature and think that everything is supposed to be like that.
>>

I wasn't trying to be uppity either. I guess it just seems like every time anyone speaks out against the prequels they are seen as some sort of, well, "pseudointellectual postmodernist deconstructive lit major edgelord" when in fact some of us just don't particularly care for them.

Honestly, I love the story of the PT, I just feel that the execution was a little lackluster. ANd I feel the same way about ROTJ if I'm being honest.

There's nothing wrong with not liking him, Brian Blessed (Boss Nass) gives a thoughtful critique of his flaws while praising the great narrative vigor of his character. It's just a matter of immature unlikeable autists thinking they're better than everyone else because they disdain "childish" things and like "mature" things, so they shit on prequels out of hand with canned criticisms.

In all honesty I think the two weakest parts of the prequels are visual design and acting direction.

That is to say while you could buy one or two performances being off, both Kid and Teen Anakin had problems that half the cast did that must've come from Lucas telling them to act in a weird way that's slightly off in a number of scenes. Likewise Lucas had a weird obsession with spindly designs where Gungans have to have weird eye stalks and battle droids are skeletal without being threatening in the way just basic stormtroopers could be.

You can tell where Lucas is coming from and what he's going for, but when everyone on screen is goggle eyed and talks like a robot or a muppet, including the humans, it doesn't really work.

They're cannon fodder, just like Stormtroopers. Threatening in numbers, fodder/comic relief when not.

There are literally dozens of other droid designs used in the movies, and then dozens more in TCW, which are apprprpiately threatening in their design.

The designs of the prequels is completely fine. In fact, its not just fine, it surpasses the OT in creativity and vibrancy.

The narrator for the Rebel Rising audiobook is awful. Like cringeworthy bad. The Aftermath narrator was great, and Thrawn was amazing to listen to as well. Ashley Eckstein has experience in voice acting, and it showed in the Ahsoka audiobook, making a mediocre story worth listening to.

But this girl narrating Rebel Rising is fucking atrocious, overacting everything, I even heard her stumble a little reading a simple sentence. Reading sentences sounds very awkward, like she doesn't understand how commas work. She is also very blatantly misrepresenting characters dialogue, reading them completely differently to how they seem to be described in the book, cartoonishly so.

This is going to be a chore. I'm still early in, so maybe it's not as bad as this the entire time. Hopefully the book itself is worth it.

But the Audiobooks help me get through them when I don't feel like reading them, and I can multitask with small things like cleaning my room in the meantime.

If I don't pull out an audiobook from time to time, then my list of unread books starts to stacks.

I don't know if I'll be able to finish Rebel Rising before Inferno Squad comes out, and I really want to delve into that one, so I am using the audiobook to push through it.

Is air racing with souped up starfighters allowed?
>>
>>93592287
Reading can be boring and takes a long time, and I lose focus, but I love Star Wars, and I almost always love the stories once I get into them, audiobook or not.

Audiobooks help me get through them, like im marathonning TCW while I clean my room or something.

Then turn it off? Sounds like you have an issue with your concentration. If you can't sit down and read a star wars book, you have problems
>>
>>93592702
It's incredibly hard to turn off upwards of 16 different computers and their fans, and I can't turn off the TV audio, just in case said audio suddenly drops out. I work in a TV station, and it is hell.
>>
>>93592732

>>

What you're saying is, you have to listen for the audio to cut out, but you can listen to an audiobook while you work? Why not put in headphones and read?

that doesn't make sense
>>

Or, I can just work and listen to a book at the same time.

Then you're going to miss critical details of a novel multi-tasking. But hey man, your choice

>Souped up starfighters
Why would military craft be allowed in a civilian race?
Either way the vast majority of races use a set of regulations to make a more level playing field.

If the rules allowed for such wide variation would you find such craft available to race. If the Desert Cup was for endurance racing then it would allow for a great number of different craft to participate.

Long story short, you're not going to see an A-wing competing against a B-Wing in a race, more than likely.
>>
>>93593543
Well what's gonna happen is that everyone buys cheap A-Wings and adds bigger engines, just like what happened to the National Air Races.

Then you'd have one madman who added two extra engines to a Y-Wing just to compete.

>>93580834
What are some underrated Star Wars races?
>>
>>93593048
What's Sy Bisti for "absolutely haram"?
>>
>>93593699
All of that depends on if the race is entered by ship manufactuers or not.

A lot of races, especially big ones with actual prizes, will have strict limits on the engine, or have an engine that all teams are required to use.

I'd like to see a Le Mans style race in Star Wars.

No seriously, it's clearly not a dedicated shuttle, it's meant to house multiple people like a Y-Wing or an Arc but doesn't have that gunner capability built into it either craft does, puts all of it's eggs into one basket with only forward lasers, and doesn't really do anything that another ship somewhere else isn't doing many times better.

>What exactly did the CIS want from the Republic?
>What did they ask for but the Republic chose war rather than give them it?
It depends on who you ask.

Officially they didn't want anything from the Republic and just wanted the freedom to separate and form their own state. Then they captured two Jedi and a senator who had come to fuck their shit up, gave them a fair trial and sentenced them to death, and had Jedi and then an army show up to disrupt a perfectly legal and justified execution.

If you ask the Republic, their Jedi agent had discovered evidence of a conspiracy with a number of wealthy conglomerates to attack and overthrow the Republic for the sake of enriching themselves, then tried to execute him and his rescuers under flimsy pretenses to cover it up.
>>
You know, if there's one thing "wrong" with the Prequels, it's that the Jedi rescue team in AotC failed and needed the Clones to save them.

Like, this is the first time we see the full power of the Jedi Order.
And they get their ass kicked in their first showing.
Literally the only point in canon where we see 10+ Jedi in the same battle, and they lose hard to a bunch of droids that up until that point were cut through like butter.
>>
>>93598347
They hadn't fought the super battle droids at that point, though. Those were the ones that really wrecked their day.

And they were never a threat again.

In fact, in the next movie, R2 kills a bunch by peeing on them and setting his droid pee on fire. Haha.
>>
>>93598347
The movie telegraphs this several times, though. Mace points out in his very first scene (with a line that was in multiple trailers) that they're peacekeepers and not soldiers. Yoda later points out that too many Jedi have become overly sure of themselves, even the older ones.

The task force at Geonosis later fails due to a combination of cockiness and not really being suited to the task- they thought they were going to fit Geonosians and a few battle droids, they didn't expect an entire army to start flooding the arena.
>>
>>93598378
But they are warriors though.
Not being soldiers doesn't mean they can't fight.
Knights aren't soldiers but they're not pushovers.

What's the kill count on droids before that scene? Qui Gon and Obi-Wan kill dozens of them in TPM without even the remotest sense of danger.

Big fight with everyone in an arena, no clear front and droids pouring in constantly. Not that hard to imagine that a lot of jedi just got shot in the back or side tbqh.
But also what >>93598463 said. Numbers.
>>
>>93598433
>Not being soldiers doesn't mean they can't fight.
If you go in against superior numbers, the only thing that's going to help you is a solid plan. They didn't have one and didn't expect that many droids.
>>
>>93598466
>the Jedi aren't invincible or infallible
QGJ "Maybe I killed a jedi and took it from him."
AS "That's impossible, no one can kill a jedi."
QGJ "If only that were true."

HOW DOES LUCAS KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS POTTERY
>>
>>93598420
What I don't like about this is that Obi-Wan waxes nostalgically in ANH about "a more civilized time".
Like being a Jedi meant something. And it was good and noble and strong.

It makes the scene in RotJ where Luke says that he's "a Jedi Knight, like my father before me" powerful. Because what we knew about the Jedi says that Luke saying that means he's associating himself with lots of good and noble things.

But then we find out that Obi-Wan is a moron and the Jedi were never good and civilized. The were cocky and lazy.
Luke's declaration about being a Jedi Knight suddenly turns from a climatic reveal into something sad and ignorant. Luke doesn't know that Obi-Wan doesn't really remember how things happened and that everything he's been taught hasn't been representative of the truth.
>>
>>93598475
>>93598486
Also an instance of Dooku being right again:
>You're impossibly outnumbered.
>I don't think so!
>We'll see.
>>
>>93598498
>But then we find out that Obi-Wan is a moron
We find that out in ROTJ, dude. That's not an invention of the prequels. He sits down with Luke and tells him he was wrong and made a huge mistake with Anakin.
>>
>>93598498
You're that "Jedi should have been wandering ronin!" guy again, aren't you?
>>
>>93598498
Obi-Wan isn't a moron he's a nostalgic idealist who longs for the days before the clone wars when being a Jedi meant something instead of a pompous perfunctory title. When Luke says he is a Jedi, he means a REAL Jedi, the Jedi as they were meant to be like Anakin was instead of the stodgy stultified letter of the law bureaucratic clergy like Windu and Shaak Ti and so on.
>>
>>93598498
But Obi-Wan admits to his failings in ROTJ. Luke even calls him out on his lies and his "certain point of view" bullshit. A big part of ROTJ is that Luke defies what Obi-Wan and Yoda wanted. Turns out they were wrong- when Luke declares himself a Jedi, he's saying what a Jedi should be, not what Obi-Wan and Yoda or the old order says.

It's like you didn't even watch ROTJ.
>>
>>93598537
No, but I agree with the sentiment

I don't like how the Jedi in the prequels are bureaucrats and servants of the state
>>
>>93598347
because they were outnumbered like 100:1

>>
>>93587607
No I see what he's saying. It's a musical thematic continuity thing going on. Imperial March works better thematically between ep 5 and 6. If takes place before ep 5, the theme isn't used as the main villain theme, only foreshadowed. The theme as it is fits the stakes better in ep5. I think John Williams and Lucas were doing this with the pt too.
>>
>>93598347
The arrogance of the Jedi order is a major point in the prequels, like it gets brought up a lot and is directly related to their downfall.

Chirrut and Baze has more of a leg to stand on, at least, considering their long-standing background together, filled with mostly great times.
Thrawn and Pryce haven't known each other for nearly half as long as C&B, and Pryce's character only got to where she is because of Thrawn's influence and his allies (mostly Yularen). Pryce even killed hundreds of people right under Thrawn's nose during his operation, giving him reason to legitimately hate her.

The entire point of the prequels and the whole saga is that the Jedi are supposed to peacekeepers that aren't biased to any side of a conflict (or their own emotions/families/friends/loved ones). A Jedi fighting in a war in some vein attempt to save the galaxy is like a priest running a whore house in some vein attempt to convert perverts. The Jedi aren't supposed to be crazy powerful superheroes who can take on armies and they'll never be that because that power is only reserved for the chosen one and a Jedi's job is more spiritual, peaceful, and diplomatic.
>>
>>93601830
Jedi are more similar to monks than priests. They prefer to be peaceful but they can defend themselves if need be. I don't think a priest can beat you in a fist fight.

They also had better looking lead actors, Ridley Boyega and Driver are average and below imo. Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson are the best looking newcomers but their screentime was minuscule.

Also Felicity Jones>Daisey Ridley

It's a shame Poe got shafted becuase of Han. Another reason TFA failed to come into it's own for me is it couldn't stop leaning heavily on the nostalgia of the older cast and didn't establish the three leads well at all.

And none of the old cast stuff paid off either, Leia is going to be written out, they killed off Han anyway and Luke's gonna be a cynical bastard.

And even Hamill agrees Luke's newfound cynicism is just out of character for him. One of the early outlines for the ep 7 story was for Han to be the cynical curmudgeon drinking himself to death in a space bar because of what happened with Ben.

Movie Han is complete 180 for what you'd expect from a guy who lost his son to the dark side and separated from his wife.

Luke should be the optimist helping out Rey and Finn in TFA like Ben Kenobi did in ANH, Han in the mentor role is fun but it feels like fanboyism on JJ's part.

Then again I'm not sure how I would've felt about them killing Luke in TFA at Kylo's hand if we're going full pottery.

>>
>>93603512
>Han in the mentor role is fun but it feels like fanboyism on JJ's part.
It also doesn't really work because he doesn't even do much mentoring. He's more of a babysitter than an actual mentor. He doesn't really make any genuine connection to either Finn or Rey. You have that "hey I guess you're okay, you want a job or something" moment with Rey but that's not exactly an indication of any real bond that formed.

Worse, Kylo senses that Rey sees Han as the father she never had. It's easy to interpret this as Rey being so desperate for a parental figure that she latches on to the first old guy that comes along, but I get the feeling Abrams and Kasdan didn't really think that hard about it. In any case it falls short and Rey's anger over it feels contrived because she barely knew the guy and he only showed vague tolerance of her rather than anything resembling affection or guidance.

I actually think Han's response was good. He's an emotionally stunted individual. He responds by reverting back to his old life before he got involved. Luke also makes sense since I mean Yoda did the same thing. Perhaps Luke has a purpose like Yoda?

>>

I think the problem with Han is he always fucking reverts, every time. There are zero stories of Han as a cool rebellion general despite that apparently being what he's known as to people. Every story for 40 years leans on him as he was in A New Hope rather than exploring how he'd become after Return of the Jedi.

I actually like the idea of cynical Luke, but that's just me. I like to see characters with strong moral convictions get tested.

The EU went full retard with this, because it ended with Luke being seduced to the dark side. I'm curious to see how TLJ shows Luke dealing with his whole world view being challenged and broken down.
>>
>>93604647

Again though, this has been the stock excuse for Han since forever. In the EU it's whatever they excused his actions with when he needed to do something for the plot to move forward and it's not like he didn't abandon the job of general almost immediately anyway.
>>
>>93605000

Cynical Luke works... when you can actually see the progression. Right now we literally see him as the first of the new jedi, the oh shit all the other new jedi are dead again so we can have a new hero 30 years later with no possible competition.
>>
>>93605096
I never read the EU past the Thrawn Trilogy, none of it interested me.
In the movies Han never really seems enthuzed at the idea of being a general. He seemed like he was mostly in the Rebellion because of his friends. Him cutting and running, as it were, makes sense to me.
>>
>>93605110
I'll agree with that. Even if Disney greenlights some New Jedi Order books in the near future, there won't really be any impact behind them because we know tthe new generation of Jedi are all killed by the first order.

I feel like what would have been better is if Luke succeeded in building his new order, but the same things that doomed the original order would creep up again with Luke's order. Luke slowly begisn to see that, while the light side is the right and worthy path, the structure of the Jedi seems to be failing again, and that the only solution is to find a new way for the light to balance out the dark, that would be where Rey comes in. You could even still have the FO attack Luke's temple, killing some Jedi. but wiping them all out again feels like lazy writing.
>>
>>93605250
that's what happens when you combine the screenwriting genius of Lawrence Kasdan with the directorial panache of JJ Abrams - a fucking horrible mess
>>
>>93605250

Would have been cool if Luke's Order fell apart from Ben wrecking everything, but not having all of hem being killed. You could have other Jedi in the galaxy besides Luke. I think in a rough draft they did something like this because Maz had force powers, right?
>>
What irritates me the most about the PT is that, since 1977, all we've really known about what happened before STAR WARS was what Ben told Luke. Now, obviously, he lied about Vader and Anakin being two different people, but now just about everything in that scene is a lie. And out of all the times I have shown people the PT who have never watched it before, three of hose times I have had a person ask me why they didn't show what happened between Ben and Owen.

Obi-Wan says that Owen thought Anakin should have stayed on Tatooine and not gotten involved with the Clone Wars and because Anakin ended up dying, there was a rif between Owen and Ben, yet this clearly didn't happen in tthe PT. Ben and Owen share one scene together and they don't speak to one another.
>>
>>93605250
>there won't really be any impact behind them because we know tthe new generation of Jedi are all killed by the first order.
Thats like saying the PT had not impact because we know that the Jedi all die and the Emperor wins.
>>
>>93605426
That's why I said it was lazy writing, because it already happened with the old order. that type of story has already been examined.

Do we really need to repeat that story line again, for the sake of nostalgia?

Exactly which backs up his 'he didn't want your father to leave' comment. But to be fair Owen probably doesn't even know how much of Anakin leaving was his choice or the Jedi's choice since he's probably heard Shmi say that Anakin chose to leave, and then Watto telling him that the Jedi cheated him out of Anakin. This would only serve to make Owen hate both Anakin and the Jedi letting Shmi die and then forcing him to raise Luke in fear that the Empire will blow up their house at any moment.
>>93605617
>Padme is Owen's sister?
Technically. Owen is Anakin's sister in law and he's married to Padme.

Episode IV retroactively confirms this when Owen says that he's afraid Luke has too much of his father in him.

I think even if Owen knew Anakin leaving was his choice and that Shmi encouraged it, he'd probably still resent it since it would've caused Shmi grief. She felt Anakin leaving was the best life for him but she also clearly didn't like being separated from him and Owen probably would've thought "well fuck him for leaving and making his mom sad."

"You're father wanted you to have his when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow. He didn't want you to follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade."

There was clearly a rift between Obi-Wan and Owen in STAR WARS.

>>
I think a huge problem with Star Wars writing is it's played off like all the characters actually live in this universe and mention current events that are actually very important to the plot so casually that the audience often doesn't realize the implications of what's being said. For example if you showed someone in Star Wars a movie set in 1991 where a Soviet spy says to his partner 'Gorbachev has just dissolved the Union. The KGB has turned into the FSB from a coup so I'm not sure who we're taking orders from anymore. Don't trust any new contacts since they may try us for breaking the Espionage Act of 1918.' Unless you actually live in this world almost 90% of that dialogue is references to governments, organizations, laws, and actions done specifically in that universe with little to no context. Sure if you're deeply interested in politics you may be able to decipher the general meaning but most people will be completely lost.

I'm not sure if the dialogue should be dumbed down or what, but showing straight up political discussions on governments the audience has no clue about as a way of progressing the story is a mistake. I don't think making it all quirky shit with 0 politics is good either.

It's not hard to get how the government functions in the PT, anon. you just have to be patient. It is simple enough a child could get what's happening, and it gets more and more complex the more you think about it. That's decent writing. Why would they just dictate everything to you?
>>
>>93605922
Yes really. Nobody cares that -technically- rift means they were close at one point when we're only talking about the nature of their relationship circa the OT when they're arguing.
>>
>>93605855
Info dumps are an acquired taste, it seems. It helps with world building, but you risk losing the audience. It's tough finding that grey area. You don't want your dialogue to go over everyone's head, but you also don't want to treat them like idiots.

No I understand how the Republic, Separatists, Trade Federation, Banking Clan, etc work. I just see people not understanding these things every single day on multiple Star Wars forums and they're always surprised to find that the answer they seek was in a one off line in Episode 2 or something. For example the Midichlorians thing. I see people all the time who wish that midichlorians were more like conduits of the force instead of the force itself but are then surprised to find that they're exactly conduits since this is how Qui-Gon explains them in Episode 1 but because the dialogue was always so dry they just heard 'midichlorians dadadada the force dadada tells us the will of the force dadadadada' and assumed that midichlorians were the force.

This.

Some random Queen within a government consisting of thousands of planets, each with planetary leaders and senators, entering the congressional building and after five minutes of not liking what the Chancellor is saying, calling for a vote of no confidence and then he gets voted out is ludicrous.

Does any government on earth function like this where a random person can say that the president isn't doing a good job and then senators have the option of voting him out of office? Over the course of a day.

This isn't exclusive to the prequels. A lot of stuff in the OT is explained by a single line that people miss. I'm just saying I have always thought it was weird that it was never shown and friends of mine who have seen the PT for the first time with me have commented on it too.

None of you think it's weird that something that played so heavily in the first STAR WARS was never even brought up in the PT.
>>
>>93606171
According to Palpatine, Valorum is already massively unpopular. It looks like everyone was just waiting for an excuse to oust him.

While I doubt something like this could happen in the span of a day in real life, it's ridiculously common for politicians to wait for an opportunity to move against an opponent. They'll wait for any excuse because just coming out and saying "I motion to impeach _____" out of nowhere makes them look bad even if the entire senate agrees with them.
>>
>>93606200

I think it's weird that something that was important in STAR WARS was never mentioned in the movies that took place during the time it was supposed to have happened.
>>
>>93606231
>None of you think it's weird that something that played so heavily in the first STAR WARS was never even brought up in the PT.
No, because we never needed to see that. Again, you're looking for a version of the story that was never implied. All we're told is that Owen isn't a fan of Obi-Wan. Somehow you think we needed to see the two of them as friends first or else Owen not liking Obi-Wan is somehow unexplained, which is a completely baffling argument to make.

Why would it need to be shown?
>>
>>93606204
>How are you forgetting the people had no confidence with the Republic at that point?

What I'm asking is, regardless of how shitty everyone thought Valorum was, how was he legally voted out of office over the course of a day.

A lot of people in the US fucking HATE Trump right now, but some random ass state governor can't just do into the senate and say he doesn't like Trump and suddenly they hold a new presidential vote, even if they all wanted to replace him.

I'm asking how a government can function like that if your highest seat of elected power can be replaced just because a bunch of people don't like them? Any government that tried to function like that would have a new president every couple of days. It would be chaos.
>>
>>93606231
>I'm just saying I have always thought it was weird that it was never shown and friends of mine who have seen the PT for the first time with me have commented on it too.
What exactly are you asking for? You're not even clear on what it is you want because any time one of us assumes you just go "I never said that!" but never clarify what the hell it is you're looking for except this vague "well it was mentioned in ANH but we never saw it in the prequels!"

Like are you looking for a sign that Owen doesn't like Obi-Wan? If so, ROTS already implies that with his body language.

>>

Again, why do they need to meet for Owen to decide he doesn't like Obi-Wan? He clearly doesn't want much to do with him the one time they're in a scene together. Did you need Owen to come out and say "Obi-Wan I do not like you for these reasons" or else it's somehow not valid?

Considering the whole info dump conversation going on in tandem to this one, let's stop and think this over. Supposing it were added to the films, what would it really have brought to the table? Sure, it could provide some world-building context, but to the audience (especially if we go back to the original) it could come off as unnecessary stuffing. It would probably be along the lines of that one scene of Luke and Biggs on Tatooine.
>>
>>93606393

>>
>>93606418
There's two whole decades between Obi-Wan leaving Luke with the Lars family and ANH. Obi-Wan has also clearly come around before since Luke already knows him.

>>
>>93606398
You do realize that there have been crazier governments irl that were about as stable as the Republic right?
>>
>>93606413
You could make that argument about the PT as a whole.

The bigger question is, why include things in the PT that have zero bearing on the story as a whole instead of filling in the blanks of things already mentioned in the OT, but never fully fleshed out.

We know that Owen and Obi-Wan do not get along in STAR WARS. Enough that Owen and Beru both hid the fact that Anakin was a Jedi and fought in the Clone Wars from Luke and instead lied and said he was navigator on a ship during the war. I think that is an awful lot of weird stuff going on for it to not even be mentioned in the PT.

I'm not saying it's a plothole. It's easy to just say, "Oh, it happened between 3 and 4" and be done with it. But for the PT to be six hours long and never even show Obi-Wan and Owen meeting each other is enough that people ask me the question.
>>
>>93606449

How do you know this action has been allowed in their government for a thousand years? Maybe it was only recently added since it's emphasized in the movies that The Republic is in decline similar to Rome. And he would be 100% backed up by the government because it is completely within his rights as King to do so. But you know why he hasn't yet? Because it's fucking stupid and would be too chaotic to actually serve as an advantage for him. Same thing goes for the vote of no confidence. It exist but is rarely used because ideally it is decided very carefully by thousands of senators (which, keep in mind, likely won't agree to the vote in the first place due to a complete clusterfuck of political demographics) and because the chaos of randomly pulling a vote of no confidence would harm even the most corrupt senators more than if they allowed a noble Chancellor who was cracking down on lobbying to stay in office. Chaos is never good for business and order (the two things politicians thrive on) so the vote would rarely get used. Same thing goes for nukes.
