Family Guy has gone through some real rough patches, and it's not a great show by any means, but man, it has a certain sense of humor that no other show has and when they're on it with the gags, they are ON it. Unfortunately, the lows are really low when they start to show any pretense of the episode having an actual plot. Plus they lots of little silly moments that other shows don't seem to have, like this here at 2:18.

In somewhat rare cases, they attempt to put more than the bare minimum effort into animating a scene. It may not look that good, but there's still a shred of an attempt even when they could just laze around and auto-tween the entire series.

I quit watching after that episode where Meg converts to Christianity and they show all the Christians in town attending a massive book-burning where they burn science books and call them "evil". Then Brian talks Meg out of her belief at the end by asking "If there were a god, would he really have given you such a flat chest?".

Like, I know atheists who were even put off by that shit. 21 minutes of Fox-approved hate speech. The constant stereotyping of Asians and Jews was bad enough, and I should have quit watching sooner, but that one pushed me over the edge. I hear Seth has less to do with the show these days, but from what bits I've seen here and there the show hasn't gotten any funnier.

It is honestly better than The Simpsons now.

Don't take the anti-semitism or Jap hate too seriously, it's obviously fake edge they phoned in to meet their two endgames:

1. Get a rise out of easily offended jackasses, which has fucking worked, look at how everyone was up in arms about the Heath Ledger gag for five minutes last year.

2. Appeal more to their target audience, 14 year old edgelords who just learned the c-word. They've acknowledged in the show a few times that I remember that a lot of young teens watch the show, and the content of the last ten years or so of episodes shows that's where they're aiming. Obviously orchestrated by some board room fucks at Fox.

Just like The Simpsons it's an ad in disguise as entertainment, worked on by far too many people to have any cohesive meaning or direction and ultimately controlled by the aforementioned board room fucks to get more sponsors. I basically ignore it these days because I don't care, and that's the worst thing you can do to an ad.

Fake edge I can handle, but with Family Guy it isn't always obvious. In the early seasons it was, but the more they pushed the envelope in later seasons, the more I began to question whether these were really Seth's views.

And at any rate, it just wasn't as funny as it was during in it's initial run or the first couple of seasons after it returned. Or at least, it wasn't at the point where I had quit. Maybe it has gotten better. It's been years since I watched the show regularly, so I honestly wouldn't know.
