Yeah, he's something like a god that consumes the souls of warriors or whatever. It's kinda weird but it's not that out of place. Even though he might've initially been really important, in the actual story mode, nothing is really done with him.

You mean Street Fighter x Tekken and yes it did. TxSF as far as we know is on indefinite hold, but a lot of people feel that Akuma in T7 was an experiment to see how well 2D fighting game characters can translate to 3D. Eliza as well, since mechanically, she's very similar to Akuma. For all we know, the Tekken team might start to focus on TxSF when they're finished with T7, and Pokken Tournament, plus Smash 4 as well, assuming a Switch port of that game is imminent.

Which leads to the question of Darkstalkers characters and their ability shrug off being sliced in half. You get all sorts of debate on whether that actually reflects on their abilities story-wise or not. Even the developers are kind of vague about it, saying that "it's possible it's just an illusion, but it's also just as possible that our common sense just doesn't apply to monsters." They also specifically chose to have Donovan be exempt from the sliced in half animations, and given other statements they've made about the ramifications of adding Donovan to the roster in terms of the potential power level gap between a human or even a half human against all these monsters, they probably figured that he actually wouldn't have the ability to survive such mutilation.

But then next game pure 100% human B.B. Hood comes along and does it just fine, so lol Capcom.
