I wasn't a huge fan of the art style, but I'd say it's infinitely preferable to something as bland and lifeless as UAF. I genuinely had a hard time watching those shows because of how much I hated the art style, it wasn't interesting to look at in any way.
Also I might be alone in this but I never liked Rook. That alien foreigner who gets phrases wrong trope got real fucking old.

Ben actually mentioned that some of them were related to him. The host allowed them to be released from the contest, but the rest of them just sort of went along with it.

There's a couple of opinions on this, but I think the main two are either A: it's a cash grab banking on the popularity of the OS and hoping to ensnare a whole new set of 10 yr olds, or B: a reboot is necessary because all of the retcons and dropped plots made the ongoing story somewhat of a clusterfuck.

Personally, I think it's probably a little of column A and a little of column B.

I haven't gotten around to watching the reboot yet, as I'm still half way through UA, but from what I've heard of the people who have actually given the reboot a chance, it sounds like there is at least a spark of charm to it. I think it could work, given that Azmuth said in series that he expected to live another 3,000 years, and then you have people like Paradox who can travel through time. So there's plenty of "future" for there to be a character who gets the Omnitrix who isn't related to Ben at all.

I guess the only issue is, do you give the omnitrix it to another human, or do you use another species as the bearer, and use a human character as a badass normal ala Max Tennyson.

Look, I'm all for villains with depth, but Vilgax is not one of those types of villains. Part of the reason he was such an effective big bad in OS is that he was essentially alien terminator. There was no stopping him. He wanted what he wanted, and that was that. You couldn't reason with him, you couldn't beg for mercy, you couldn't even blow him to smithereens and expect that to save you. He was more a force of nature than an individual. Attempting to give him depth only serves to make him less effective as a villain, not more.

Bad argument. A villain's complexity doesn't make them inherently better or worse. It's the factors that make up a whole that are important. A certain level of context and consistency needs to be employed to structure a character in terms of emotion and behavior within their works. That's not a very strong argument since due to the sheer number of aliens, most of them double up on the same abilities, some are better than others but they all have their uses.

Ben's done a lot of shit without the watch. Rook keeps up with Ben all the time and his species doesn't seem any more remarkable than humans.

Sure, that's all fine and good, but in any given array of aliens, it's highly likely that you'll have aliens who fit the bill and have other attributes that make them a better choice.

As for the Omnitrix turning them into captain America, I don't know that that's the case. According to WOG, it would turn them into Ben due to his bond with the Omnitrix. Even if it did manage to turn them into Captain BenMurrica, the peak of human physical perfection is still pretty lacking when you compare it to other forms.

As for Rook keeping up with Ben, I haven't seen too much of omniverse, but from what little I've seen, Rook seems to outpace ben, not the other way around. Even other 'boring' races appear to be more fit than we are.

I won't deny that bens done a lot of stuff without the watch, but he's also Ben, and comes from a family that produces baddasses like they're going out of style.

My question is still the same - what could an alien do with us humans that they wouldn't be able to do with any other species.

Well, if we take into account the Chronosapien Time Bomb he set off in Omniverse. Vilgax's death count should be exponentially higher. According to Judge Domstol in Universe Vs. Tennyson, the Universe has "quadrillions of beings." And there are a countless number of Universes in the Ben 10 multiverse. Vilgax destroyed the entire multiverse and everything in it except for No Watch Ben's Universe. Vilgax easily has the highest kill count in the entire franchise. And is one of the only 2 antagonists to kill Ben Prime. The other being Charmcaster, who has the second highest kill count that we know of. (600,000 people in The Enemy of my Frenemy)
