I never realized this show was actually good. I caught an episode every now and again, but I was never a big Disney viewer. I've been watching a few episodes out of morbid curiosity and I'm genuinely surprised how clever it can be.
Someone post the copypasta with Principal Prickly

that's not what morbid curiosity means

>that episode where he literally turns the school into a slave army to build him a pyramid in his glory and then laments the hard truth of entropy and his own mortality not only as a ruler but as a man when he fails and his legacy is brought down by the most basic of natures occurrences.
Show kinda gets real huh?
>>93564290
I bet a lot of despots saw it and thought to change their ways
>>93564337
wishful thinking.

Op is a real jerk
Is that Gretchen? She cute.
>>93564434
yeah....she is.

Worrying about that shit is for losers, you build shit to build it and when it gets knocked down you start all over again.
>>93564553
look upon my works and despair etc.
and honestly, if the idea of ideas beyond yourself leaving and never returning doesnt bother you as a sentient creature I can only marvel at what you distract yourself with.
>>93564765
it inspires me to keep moving and growing until I kick it. The universe is massive and uncaring, destined to become nothing but cold emptiness but who gives a shit? Should everyone be sad and whinge about it until you kick it?
>>93564553
whoa, chill out babel
>>93564858
Whine no, respect, hopefully. And understand that the greatest works of man will always fall short. But that it is not the end that matters but the struggle that got us there to begin with.
>>93564290
It gets heavier when you think about how quickly life goes by in elementary school.
>>93564995
It gets even heavier when you think about how quickly life goes by.
>>93564960
I respect it plenty, just something that isn't really relevant in day to day. It consumes some people, and that is what bothered me. Post modern nihilism and hedonism is a fucking cancer.
>>93560860
Recess is one of the best cartoons out there. It got pretty existential a lot, surprisingly.
>>93565037
There's nothing else but days anon. Whatever takes up those days is what those days are.
>>93560860
I've heard a lot of people on /co/ say this is good.. I find it hard to believe, but I give them the benefit of the doubt. still not something I've ever felt remotely compelled to watch. looks so stupid, and the few bits I've seen fit that entirely.
>>93565102
>that episode when Spinelli started a religion around Swinger Girl that spread to the entire playground
>>93565308
Your loss
>>93565327
>that episode where spenilli created an actual work of art so great that it got a government agency interested and caused a state wide panic as what to do but ultimately teaches the fundamentals of potty mandala's through creation of true beauty and its unpreventable destruction. That all things must be loved in their own way and own time, and to hold on to the physical is the saddest thing a person can do.
Honestly is there another show that teaches lessons like this with such ease?
I haven't watched it since my childhood but I remember it being good. Then again I'm also an embarrassingly big fan of Hogan's Heroes which Recess is arguably a schoolyard remake of.
"The Rules" is kino allegory stuff
"Bachelor Gus" is super comfy
"Soccer Boy" where Mikey becomes a good goalie to spite his friends is pretty funhttp://archiveofourown.org/works/7884013
>>93565733
>arguably
it straight up rips off the opening
>>93564486
>tfw they turned Mikey's amazing singing voice into a show-wide meme
So grateful for that.
>that episode where everyone's doing a can drive just to show off that their class won but then they destroy everything by accident so the needy people won't be able to eat anything for thanksgivinguntil both teams work together to make back what they busted up
Recess was surprisingly good at dishing out the feels

Kinda wanna draw something with Gretchen, I love buck teeth.
THE BOX
>Now sit down or your fired.
>I don't work for you.
>That's what you think.
>>93560860
I wish Disney channel still showed this at night time, along with its other older cartoons. Now it's just their shitty kidcoms all day long.
>>93567250
You mean you don't like hit Disney shows like Austin & Ally, Andi Mack, and Generic Teen Girl Show #477?
>>93560860
BEST SHOW
the principal in this show was so badass.
>>93560860
>the episode where the token black guy goes unga for another token black guy
>>93565435
Great episode, especially as an expression of how much the school really meant to Spinelli, along with her friends.
>>93560860
>that episode where TJ loses to the Principal in a battle of /co/ knowledge
Does it blow ur mind that Gretchen has the same VA as Ellie from The Last of Us?
Miss Grotke was one of the best parts of this show.
You should watch Filmore! next.
It's friggin' great.

hurr durr
>She is a feminist and believes in racial equality as shown in episodes This Brain for Hire where she mentions enjoying Gretchen's thoughts about how the white men of the declaration of independence helped shape their gender biased society and again in buried treasure where she says to take the new textbook with a grain of salt since they focus on white males. On another occasion, she mentions how the Native Americans shared food with the undeserving settlers in Can Drive and she mentions Amelia Earhart as a sign of rugged feminism in "Beauty Pageant".
>>93571018
Weird fucking show honestly....but yeah pretty good from what i can remember.
>>93571600
>>93572011
That the show took the time to show off different perspectives and ideals the way it did was amazing. Your personal obliviously super right and correct perspective aside, its cool how they managed to instill the concept of differing world views in such a natural way. Doesn't ever really feel preach-ie either.

And thank you for proving that you weren't alive from 1990-2001.
>the teacher who used to be the cool student
>>93562968
Just imagine Gretchen or Spinelli like that.
>>93571600
She was supposed to be like that from the start, it's a fairly common teacher archetype
>>93560860
That episode where TJ was taken prisoner by the Kindergarteners and Vince searched everywhere to find and rescue him was amazing. I can still hear Vince crying over TJ.
>>93577762
My teachers were sane people so I always wondered if Grotke or VanDriessen types existed, so I always liked the archetype
Now when modern liberals are like that, these older characters kind of bother me
>>93577692
Pharaohs were men only, I believe.
>>93566966
Gretchen in bikini?
In a Denim suit?
The episode with the Monstickers is God-tier.
>>93566425
There's also a throwaway scene at one point where it directly recreates the roll call sequences, including two German officials resembling Klink and Schulz.
Which is okay because I'm apparently actually 75 years old and fucking love that shit.

>TJ gets mad over something unrelated while she's mentioning the lack of women in America's founding
