Did he do Mako justice?

He didn't emulate Mako 100% especially when playing Aku. But as his own thing it was surprisingly good.

He did the best he could.

No. No one could, and he shouldn't be compared to Mako.
But he did the best he could and he did a great job with it. His performance did not affect my enjoyment of Aku in this season too much.

He did a pretty good job at Aku and a flawless job at Iroh. If you hadn't told me Iroh's voice changes mid series, I would've never guessed.

He didn't smoke enough packs a day to get esophageal cancer, so expecting him to sound like Mako would be a mistake. He did well. 9/10.
