I think it comes down to demographics. The new cartoons like Avengers Assemble and this one are written for pre-schoolers hence the on the nose dialogue. Once in a blue moon you get a show made by genuine fans, but most of the time it's cheap shows like these with half assed writing made only to promote and sell their merch/movies.

I think Spidey pulls in like a billion in merch by himself. They figure as long as he's in the public eye, regardless of critical quality, he will equal money. No, I don't care if you're a troll, just no. Ultimate was painful to watch, on it's own merits and especially as a Spider-Man fan.

Contradictory episodes that were expected to carry the plot, frequent reversions to the status quo, plotlines that come and go just fill time, pre-rendered backgrounds, obvious CGI fallback, characters being treated like action figures to be marketed, comic book sound effects being animated in rather than just use the actual sound effects, characters getting brushed aside for new ones without narrative reason, crossovers with other terrible shows, family guy style cutaways, fourth wall breaking, completely pointless exposition in nearly every episode and a general betrayal of how the Spider-Man formula works by making him an agent of SHIELD in episode fucking one. Oh and let's not forget, AN UNDESERVED 104 EPISODE RUN!

Even if this new show turns out to be somehow worse, I will never ever mourn the loss of Ultimate. It was awful and last two to eight times longer than most other shows, I hope it falls into obscurity as soon as possible....

It had nothing going against it other than quality that would cause them to cancel it. It would probably have Season 5 now if they didn't reboot the movies. Avengers Assemble is about to have the same treatment. They're on their fourth 26 episode season. EMH probably could have gotten the same if Loeb saw the value in it and didn't want to remake things in his own image.

It would but remember that at the time Spidey was being published, the general public wouldn't have suspected it of being an attempt to do synergy unless they were aware of the rumors going around. Like for instance Faraci reported that Vulture might be the main villain in Homecoming in April 2016. And that same month was when RDJ was confirmed to appear in the film, too.

In the middle of May, Spidey #6 was released, which was the Vulture and Iron Man issue. And since comics are usually made in advance, whoever was working on it (whether Robbie Thompson or editorial) would know for certain that Sony and Marvel Studios were gonna have Vulture and Iron Man in Homecoming.
