Marvel can be globalist racists elsewhere for all I fucking care - the only title I still read is Slott's Spider-Man.
>>
>>93473374
Ill read it on /co/ for free like everyone else here.
>>
>>93473374
I haven't looked forward to a comic this bad for a long time
I mean Doomsday Clock, not Legacy
>>
>Buy Marvel
AHAHAHAHAHA... Oh, you're serious?
>>
>>93473374
It's still all the same shitheads, right? Why the fuck would anyone care about these things?
>>
>>93473374
Butthurt bigots so assblasted marvel changed went to other companies they wouldn't even try before.

Mentall illness.
>>
I only buy comics after reading them here.

None of the publishers deserve the kind of trust that a blind purchase would require.
>>
>>93473397
So what you're saying is you're still part of the problem.
>>
I don't care about the diversity shit mostly, and I think >>93473397 is one of these /x/phile tier idiots in particular, but I still have fuck all interest in 95% of Marvel's line-up.

There's no creative change-up on Legacy, almost nothing has a decent hook, there's no indication of stuff that might make me interested in what they've got again.

If Legacy is a success I fully expect them to do like, Memorial or some shit within a year.
>>
>>93473374
Hell fucking no, I honestly feel like by next year for the first fucking time I'll have no marvel on my pull list

And you can't burn it down and still win like you did in the 90's. DC isn't the same shit show it was then.

I havent read shit free recently. Someone needs to start storytiming old good stuff more often. Shove the new stuff.

Comic store owner I think talking about the new push from marvel called legacy. And how no one wants it. Mostly it seems to be homages to comic covers with more of the same garbage they did recently inside.

What's better is that the press release they put out to advertise their reveals on Friday was the same press release they would post alongside the revealed books. They were so lazy that they didn't even try to make a second press release.

The larger definition covers almost any topic important to humanity.

There is legitimate criticism going on though. Marvel has generated apathy across the board. Yeah sure I understand no wanting to hear people whining about how they replaced Tony Stark with some nigger bitch, but if you replaced every current diversity character with a straight white male people would still upset. Marvel has been coasting on shock value for the past few years. Eventually everyone was going to stop being shocked.

No the race and gender is the problem. The race/gender and the terrible writing are linked. They come from an attitude that if there is anything wrong its your fault because you must not like the race or gender. They are literally seen as needing to pull their weight less.

If it was just normal tradition white thor, iron man, spider man whatever they would just accept that they need to write better but no now we get this shit until it absolutely crashes.

Marvel didn't change.

They've been blindly following trends and movies since the early 80's.

Corporate suits have control over the company. If you've ever read interviews with Shooter or any other editor from the 80's on it's really apparent that they were constantly in a state of desperately trying to stop execs from ruining the company. Then you had Quesada who was a huge corporate shill.

The current biggest problem is you have Alonso and Brevoort in charge who are lazy and just lie down and do whatever corporate tells them to. That's how you get shit like "Civil War movie is coming out, we gotta get another Civil War event!" and "That Rebirth thing is getting good sales, let's do one of those!". Ironically it's the same problem as the Marvel film directors; they hire people who'll just do whatever they say.

The "diversity" push has nothing at all to do with creating diversity. Executives saw dollar signs in their eyes at the potential goldmine of people who don't usually read comics-- kids, minorities, women-- so that's who they wanted to pander to as well as moviefags.

tl;dr Marvel are run by your usual cadre of dumbfuck executives, and have been ever since they were bought by New World Entertainment, later Toy Biz, and finally Disney. It's the same kind of idiots that run Hollywood and big-budget video games, blindly follow-the-leader and try to appeal to as many demographics as possible. Legacy is just another in a long line of desperate cash-ins.
>>
>>93473722
They actually kind of did by killing interest in their line in a way we haven't seen since Heroes Reborn.
>>
>>93475662

>>

Except the Heroes Reborn comics still consistently sold well in the 100,000s all the way to their 13th issues (look up Sept 1996 to Sept 1997 sales charts on Comichron)

A lot of Marvel titles can't do that even in the last year unless they're events.

There's no universe where that would happen. Disney would never in a trillion years sell Marvel, even if they shuttered the comics division, indefinitely put all their movies on hiatus, stopped producing all merchandise, and made Marvel Enterprises into a shell, companies NEVER sell IPs unless they absolutely have to, especially Disney.

I can't even imagine what kind of circumstances would have to occur to make Disney so near bankrupt that they'd sell off Marvel. Maybe in the year 85,000 when Disney finally can no longer extend public domain and Marvel has to go PD.

>>93475751
I actually was under the impression Reborn was a flop. So if that's not true I have no clue when the last time Marvel was number 2 in the biz for a significant length of time since they first overtook DC, if that has ever happened at all.

I thought that too but then I checked the charts a year or two ago. These were the Top 10 titles for July 1997:

1 Uncanny X-Men 347 $1.99 Marvel 165,832
2 X-Men 67 $1.99 Marvel 162,451
3 Fantastic Four 11 $1.99 Marvel 136,545
4 Spawn 64 $1.95 Image 134,162
5 Wolverine 116 $1.99 Marvel 132,564
6 Gen13/Generation X 1 $2.95 Image 114,278
7 Iron Man 11 $1.99 Marvel 113,263
8 Avengers 11 $1.99 Marvel 110,084
9 JLA 10 $1.95 DC 104,947
10 JLA 9 $1.95 DC 104,403

Captain America #11 was 11th place with 101,897.

It may have been a flop if they were hoping for the sales to be higher than it turned out to be.

Sept 1996 sales for the HR launch were:

1 Fantastic Four (Vol. 2) 1 $2.95 Marvel 313,980
2 Iron Man (Vol. 2) 1 $2.95 Marvel 277,464
3 Avengers (Vol. 2) 1 $2.95 Marvel 276,734

There are a few book but 90% of the books are remaining the same with the same creative teams (Slott will still be on ASM for fifty years). Some books are getting their legacy numbers (Slott will get to write ASM #800).

Legacy, the one shot, is about the first Avengers: prehistoric Avengers aka Cavengers. It's suppose to have a page that will "break the internet". Considering these are the same people that think variant covers are industry changing I wouldn't hold your breath.
>>
>>93476372

What the utter fuck are the prehistoric Avengers?

Is it like that stupid time they tried to retcon in a first team of X-Men that was Wolverine and I forget who?

What's the point of Generations? It's just a bunch of one-shots where the legacy heroes get zappped to the past to meet characters they have already met.

Hell, the timing doesn't even make sense. Sam Wilson will have already stepped down from Captain America and gone back to Falcon (with a shitty costume). Meanwhile in Generations, Sam is still Cap when he travels back in time to team up with Past Steve. So if rumors are true that Generations is suppose to push the legacy characters and then picking up the mantle, it's going to look weird when Sam is Falcon after all it. Did no one plan or think this over?
>>
>>93477412
It actually isn't, you dumb hipster.
If the comic shops crash, so does the industry including the indie scene. Image will die along with everything else.

Marvel will still make it out alive because they have Disney to pull them out.
>>
>>93476463
It's the Phoenix, Odin, original Black Panther Spirit, whatever the Starbrand was, and some other jackass thing.

Basically a bunch of cosmic forces mess around on Earth for varying reasons then team up to fight Shuma Gorath, but not. Probably something much less entertaining.

Maybe Bor will tell his son to settle down with a nice Vanir girl and not date the pre-african cat chick. Who knows.
>>
>>93477424

I think Generations was planned to placate the "few" fans they felt were angry. Then they got more data on how pissed fans were. How bad sales were getting and going. And Legacy was slapped on to the end of Generations at the last minute. Legacy is going to be a shitfuck, because there is no plan at all. There's not much going on. Which is why we haven't heard anything.

I think Spencer wanted to use Hydra Cap as a way to push FalCap, but the problem is that's so transparent that there will be a backlash if they do that, so Sam being Falcon evades that problem.

>>
>>93473374
>You fuckers going to buy Generations and Legacy or what

No. What kind of stupid question is that?
>>
>>93477508
No, it would create a chain effect. Imagine if direct market crashed, what would publishers do then? Well diamond crashes with it and so goes away the monopoly. They would obviously have to change their publishing strategy. That could very well end up meaning cheaper comics, more push for graphic novels and anthology, using cheaper methods in production (lower quality paper, black and white comics, less low effort cash grab content. Comics could very well make it back to grocery stores, newspaper stands.
Honestly with how well DC and in some way Image are doing in bookstore market, they really wouldn't be in as much trouble. I very much look forward to that alternate future.

Is like a Christian movie, where it is more important to highlight conservative Christian values than the story itself

The problem is not diversity, diversity has always existed in marvel comics, only that it was not forced

My problems with current marvel is not that characters are black/Asian/Muslim/female but that rather than making those characters their own original hero they are instead just replacing an already defined and loved hero with a completely undefined character that we know nothing about which is just going to generate hate for the character before the first page. In saying that characters like x-23 show that it can be done correctly if the character and their traits are well defined and that they can show they work without a certain name attached to them first. At that point if it works organically and makes sense for the character then you can do the replacement without the hatred from fans

You (and everyone who thinks like you; I keep seeing this kind of narrow-minded thinking on other boards) don't seem to live in reality.

Comics are not going to magically show up more often on newsstands if the direct market disappeared. They have to compete with rack space with Time Magazine or Entertainment Weekly or Food Network Magazine or something. Did you know that only maybe half or less of the New 52 launch was available on the newsstand? If the direct market went away back then there was no way Animal Man was gonna show up on the newsstand.

On top of that, people like you seem to be living in a world 10 years behind where you delusionally believe magazines still sell really well on the newsstand or grocery store or whatever. Have you even given much thought why Archie has been doing all those stunts and new projects in the last nine years? Or doing even more stuff directed toward the direct market? Circulation on a lot of magazines fell a lot.

How?
>>
So you are going to support this new - whatever it is - not because you like it, not because you need it, but because you fear that Marvel could fail. And if Marvel fails, the comic industry explodes.
WTF, really.
Do you even realize that it sounds like there is a monopoly and you are nothing else than slaves?
What if actually (just think about it for a minute, it's a possibility and I'm not implying I want it happens) if you cut Marvel from the system, there would be a reassessment and a certain redistribution inside the whole system? Something simple like: oh look, every month I spend XXX money for comics; without Marvel I can use the same money for DIFFERENT comics that I didn't buy before or I didn't consider because yeah, I've always been told that I have to buy Marvel otherwise I can't read anything else from different publishers?
Maybe a good starting point isn't cut Marvel from the system (I don't want that), but modify her status (quality and mass production, you know the story...).
The industry can't change for the better if you don't give it a true input (aka buying what is actually good, and with this I don't exlude there can be something good too from Marvel comics).
So don't complain if after all you still buy what you don't like.

>Then you move onto the Legacy one-shot ($6.99)
>Then we can check out the new Legacy lineup which is +90% the same books with the same teams that we already have.

And that's without even getting into the fact that nothing that people are asking for is happening in this. No Fantastic Four. No Peter/MJ wedding. Nothing. Marvel's doubling down on everything people are complaining about and trying to charge an extra buck on top of it per issue.

I expected Legacy to be a half-assed Rebirth cash-in without any sincerity. The fact that Marvel has actually made it worse than anticipated is amazing.

You forgot, Disney bought Marvel. There is no "part of Marvel" now. All of Perlmutter's Marvel shares are Disney shares now (and he has a lot of them).

As long as Disney as a whole is doing well, his shares will make money. On top of that, he's receiving a CEO's income. Why would he give that up?

Perlmutter won't leave Marvel Entertainment until he decides to.

>Controversy works in the short-term
Uh huh. If you actually read the posts in the screencap you'll notice that this was written back when Bendis was still on fucking Avengers and, last I checked, last month was yet another "DC takes second place" just like the month before that and the one before that and ... literally every month that isn't a DC Reboot/Relaunch/Gimmick (Villain's Month).

Complaining about the constant renumberings? I agree.

Complaining about the constant Big Events? I agree.

Complaining about the SJW pandering? I agree.

Pretending that the shit doesn't keep happening for the sole reason that the shit KEEPS ON SELLING? You're embarrassing yourself.

True, if it didn't, they'd have to make retailers stock "free" comics they wouldn't be able to sell, and push a lot in lootcrates, and try damage control blaming the competition when everyone's cancelling their subscriptions, and...

Secret Wars was a comic that didn't have any kind of actual film tie-in. The lowest it got was 149,028.

Civil War II was pretty brazenly made to cash in on Captain America: Civil War and even hyped up the death of a major character. It has Bendis on it (who still has a fanbase). It was frontloaded with things that should've made it sell as well as Secret Wars. 6 out of 9 of those issues went below Secret Wars' lowest selling issue. The lowest selling issue of CW2 was 105,568.

Secret Empire definitely got the kind of attention and anger Brevoort is talking about, all coming from last year and this year. But how well did it do in sales?

04/17 Secret Empire #0 - 162,718
05/17 Secret Empire #1 - 157,517
05/17 Secret Empire #2 - 100,983
05/17 Secret Empire #3 - 91,611

>people just don´t like diversity and sjw stuff in their comics not a big surprise
Not really. Green Lanterns is all about diversity and is doing pretty well.

Diversity done in a non-patronising, organic manner as 'replacements' for previous GLs that are busy in space, is good. Making Whor and destroying Thor's legacy is not.

this is just typical Marvel PR lingo
remember when they were hyping A-Force as the first ever all female book led by the most important female character in comics, the glorious and amazingly spectacular Captain Marvel! ?

>this is just typical Marvel PR lingo

Even though they've always done hyperbole, they've never tried to claim they were changing the comic industry. And on top of that it's bad when the audience intended for these things is not really giving it a good reception.
