Because this was originally just a fun little idea a dude had wanted to make with his friends, that got waaaaaay more popular than he expected it to, which ultimately is its own downfall.

Nobody was originally supposed to give this much of a shit about his show, they're still trying to catch up to the popularity which is causing them to release a clunky story and mediocre character writing, they can hardly keep solid communication with their artists and animators, they're finishing episodes the day they're supposed to come out which is fucking ridiculous.

You know what would fix this show? If they sat out doing a volume for a year, gained some professionalism and really got this shitshow together, rather than rushing to get shit out like they are doing.

increase pacing of overall plot
get an animator who has a good sense of physics
increase the speed of the fights by at least double

basically undo all the changes from seasons 3 and 4 and you're good.

Easily consumable faux anime with characters who have solid fun designs and an enjoyable premise involving fun over the top weapon design and decent fights against monsters.

You dont like it, that's fine, what I find enjoyable can be different from what you do, it's understandably harder to get into in volume 1 and other animes with similar plots exist to choose from. Plenty of people just happen to like this one, coming from a western company with a regularly ongoing, admittedly clunky, unfolding plot.

It's not great, there are plenty of flaws, though I find those flaws to exist more in the companies treatment of the show, but I've experienced worse actual anime, so I see no harm in sticking around, I've already been around since Red trailer.

Make the show about waifus fighting monsters and gangs. Since the plot is shit anyways, might as well embrace the shittiness and have just barely enough plot to get them from fight to fight. That being said, RT makes their money off of a small group of hyper-obsessed fans who buy merch. They do not have widespread appeal. RWBY was the one instance where one man's autism was able to come to life, so it will never appeal to mainstream audiences.
