God imagine how fucking good of a character Amon could have been if they didn't pull that "It was blood bending all along!" asspull. He could have been the big bad for all the seasons like Firelord Ozia, except with deeper meanings and morals, and Korra's polar opposite that forces her to mature and expand her perspective and character. It could have been great.

The chi blockers pop up for no reason in the Platinum game since they decided to use the Platinum game as a intermission between seasons 2 and 3. You know, rather than do something cool since you've got Platinum to have fun with stuff.

Thoughts on the Koh Theory? I thought it was good and considering the second season was spirits it would've been an even better way to end the season.

For those who don't know, the Koh Theory is that Amon was a nonbender given the ability to remove bending from Koh, the face stealing spirit that Aang had to talk to. And the goal was to debend Korra which would remove all bending. Kind of like "no more benders".

All his points were bullshit.

The two richest men in town were nonbenders.
There were tons of poor benders.
There was evidence of bender extortion.
The government had tons of nonbender representation.
Nonbenders only began being oppressed when an extremely dangerous terrorist organization sprung up in their city.
Benders were a scapegoat for a sizable population of individuals.

Yep.

Even Korra beating him in the end of S1 could be ok. As long as the only bending she is left with is airbending. Make her concentrate on what it means being an Avatar and actually to learn how to airbend properly.

And Amon will be doing his thing slowly trying to amass power. You can even through a curveball where he starts having some doubts about the way he goes about things.

But the council wasn't anti-non bender. The flashbacks to Yakone's trial show Sokka and some random Air Acolyte on the council, so even if the current council is all benders that is merely a coincidence, not oppression.

Where are the non-benders being oppressed anyway? Three of the richest people in the show are the Satos, Cabbage Guy and Varrick, who are all nonbenders. While on the other hand, Mako and Bolin, two powerful benders, are basically homeless. Their only somewhat legitimate complaint seems to be that some criminals happen to be benders.

>>
>>93446259
Which has all become irrelevant now because of Korrasami. Everything else is somehow a backdrop for that ship, even for the comics. That's why it is possible the worst part of the show, it hijacked what the story had going for it and threw that away to accomodate shipping. Even Makorra didn't do that, even if it distracted at times from the main story.
>>

>>93446339
They're trying to make it like that. Like the car racing in book 1, somehow that was a super special moment where they felt closer to each other than anyone else. What i'm saying is that despite all those other things being bad and all, they had less of an impact on how the story is to be understood than Korrasami did, even though Korrasami is nonsensical. And Bryke is doubling down on that perspective going so far as to rewrite events of the show.
>>

S1 was designed to be a stand-alone story, hence the ass-pull of an ending, but when Nick decided to renew it for more seasons the writers all of a sudden had to come up entirely new plots for a show that was technically resolved. It was a clusterfuck.

It'll probably be in like 5-10 years when people are still talking about Avatar and Nick/whoever want some easy money.

>Unfortunately i can't stand where they're taking it with the comics.
I feel the same.
I don't care about the responsibility-dodging "vacation" into the Spirit World.
If they do another comic that shows what's going in with the severely fucked Earth Kingdom, then they'll have my attention.

It really bothered me that the equalists went with the "priviledged benders" thing when many benders were piss poor and the richest person was a non bender.

They should have focused o the rampant crime, how the law enforcement was virtually all benders, and how the teaching of chi-blocking, the one big equalizer, was actively supressed.

It's been a while so I might be missing details, but what exactly had the equalists done wrong before the police raided them? Defeat and depower criminal gangs that the police had ignored so far? At worst they got into a little fight with the avatar and left her there, then fought back when the Avatar publicly challenged them after which they let her go humbled but mostly unharmed. Bringing these events to the light would have scored them much more sympathy from the people and make Korra's job harder, with no need for them to literally conquer the fucking city.

Isn't that like all activism? It is always people in a position of privilege telling others they are downtrodden by the bad privileged people.
>>
>>93450317
Maybe the equalists were supposed to be wrong? Not every group needs moral justification.
>>
>>93450317
That's how it always goes though. White people are meant to be the most privileged but can easily be some poor bum who get mistreated by the police. Meanwhile campuses are full of rich black kids complaining about how badly treated they are.

While activism usually has some truth at the root of it, those involved are nearly always badly misrepresenting a situation in a way to give themselves more credibility.

>but what exactly had the equalists done wrong before the police raided them?

>The Avatar can't help stop crime
>BUT these chi blocking citizens should get a free pass
If the police of RC didn't want vigilantism from the Avatar then they would have a problem with equalists trying it out too.
Also Korra challenged Amon to a duel, not all the people Amon could fit on a submarine and hide on the island. Korra wanted to fight crime, but Lin and Tenzin told her not to. The people, benders and nonbenders, should be angry at Lin and her police force.

>should be angry at Lin and her police force.
Get out of here Su, no one likes you and you did everything wrong

Of course, but I'm saying they could have put a much better argument to pull people to their side if they weren't dumb about it.

The arguments they used in the show were super weak, which looks pretty bad in a group that we're supposed to take seriously as antagonists, and SPECIALLY when they ignored the few real valid points against benders

>>93450480

That's true as well. The equalists are vigilantes going against the law to allegedly do good, so the conflict is who to root for: the police doing their job and mantaining the status quo or this group of shady outlaws getting some results?
>>
>>93450148
>He learned to do that tho.
So do the benders. They learn to hone their craft.

>then to be a peacekeeper.
Good thing everyone signed an agreement to not do things that would disturb the peace thereby meaning an Avatar, much less a force for peace, isn't needed ever again.

Antagonists don't need good reasoning, in fact usually there is meant to be some inconsistency for the hero to prove wrong. The salt if a Eskimo that everyone calls black girl pointed out how a group was faking oppression for power would be great.

Though I actually doubt the writers thought about it so hard, more likely it is just plain poor writing.
>>
>>93450577
>Eskimo that everyone calls black girl
But that's wrong, it's always been "delicious brown".
>>
>>93450577

>Antagonists don't need good reasoning

You're right, but then you've gotta convince the audience that somehow these people without at least good rethoric are amassing power and followers at worrying rates. Do people join the equalists because of the cool masks? Or maybe the message here is that people are sheep and nobody is going to attempt to dismantle their weak logic? Is that the social commentary here?

Of course the equalists were wrong, but it's fucking dumb that they grew to be such a threat without an ideology based on some facts for people to start listening to them.
>>
>>93450577
Not all antagonists need good reasoning, but if you want to convince the viewer on why the antagonist has such a large following, you should have good arguments to back it up. TLoK utilized poor justifications and focused on many of the wrong aspects for Amons cause, and even further failed to strengthen the reasons they did highlight within the show.

well bending in general became kind of an asspull, I mean how the fuck did every firebender become a lightning bender and every earth bender a metal bender. And how the hell did Bolin become a magma bender?
>>

They had pre-existing bitterness and a crime problem. Plus embelishing existing issues isn't hard in time with low information access.
Hell that shit happens TODAY.
Unhappy people swayed into a fervor against a scapegoat, feed them some half truths that they can't even fact check and frankly probably wouldn't trust the people able to dispense information.
I'm poor, no one gives a shit about me, it must be the jews, it must be the bourgeois. Those niggers are out of control, the white supremacy is keeping me down. I know it's true, I've seen the truth. I've seen the Jews running the banks. I've seen the pigs eating cake. A nigger mugged me a year ago. The cops beat me down. But there's a better life on the other side of this revolution.

What is this, a Kingdom Hearts station for ants?

After being a cop(so fucking stupid) he'll be a teacher(heh) somehow, then a local politician, then presedent. All because they don't know what to do with him. It's sad but is one of the more interesting characters left.
>>
>>93454099
>writer that said he was doing something with this never came back
Goddammit.

Amorra a shit.
>>
Do you guys remember when the first four episodes leaked? the shitstorm that ensued? good times!
>>
>>93436723
True.

He was right

Benders have unfair advantages that they use to oppress non benders.
>>
>>93436723
Lets rate the Korra antagonists

Zaheer > Amon > Kuvira > Writers of the show > Unalaq
>>
>>93436723
He build his army on himself as a prophet instead of an ideology(they had one, but they cared more about him than the cause)
thus when it was revealed he faked his identity, everything went to shit.
