They tried to ignore her. They tried to erase her. And they even tried to replace her. But now, seven years later, after a long and winding road of cartoons, mobile games and scattered cameos in one-shots and digital minis, the breakthrough winner of the 2009 Fuckup of the Year award is finally back in a Marvel comics cover.
Yes, it's the year of our lord 2017 and mother fucking Phyla-Vell is coming fucking BACK, /co/! And apparently, in pretty safe hands, too. Though I'd really like to know exactly how she ended up inside the Soul Gem... anyway, let's have a thread in honor of everyone's 11th favorite Guardian of the Galaxy.
Look at her, all tiny and split into two right there. You go almost a decade without a Phyla and suddenly you get two. Cup runneth over.
>the breakthrough winner of the 2009 Fuckup of the Year award
Carol missed a year??
Oh right, that was the year she was dead.
Also, fucking Frazier Irving drawing her first full appearance was just icing on the cake. And look, there's even a lettering fuckup over there. It's like she never left.
>>93415923
We'll never forget that golden year, where it seemed like it was going to be another race between perennial fuckup Hank Pym and slowing-down newcomer Tony Stark, when out of nowhere this plucky young girl with silver hair came screaming from the stars with a Fuckup for the Ages. It was the best of times.
Now I kinda want a follow up to this pic with Heather grabbing her ass and saying she missed that too. I mean...
Damn.
Duggan, Ewing, Bunn, Spenser
Saviors of forgotten characters.
Also, anyone seen that one issue of USAvengers (I think it was) where they straight-up painted Avril Kincaid's hair white?
Even New Quasar wants to be Old-New Quasar.
>>93416087
Carol's crush on Spider-Woman has intensified recently too. Phyla's a trendsetter.
>>93415979
Was it really such a fuckup? I mean...
>>Thanos' dad killed her
>>She lost quantum bands and was thrown to the dragon
>>Tries to kill Magus
>>They stopped her from killing Magus, which gets more killed
>>Frees Thanos, who eventually stops the Cancerverse
Like, was she really such a fuckup?
Now, I don't wanna imply anything, but y'know... the last lesbian Quasar who got eaten by a giant space monster sure as fuck didn't go into no pussy-ass coma.Though I'm sure her team wished she had.
>>93416123
Speaking of Secret Empire: Chances Genis comes out from the Darkforce too?Ahead of their appearance in Captain Marvel movies?
I'm happy for you, Judge, but when does my favorite Vell get to come back?
>>93416114
I like to joke a lot about Phyla's fuckupness, but the truth is that without her:
A) Rich would've most likely gotten himself killed by Annihilus, since it was her who got the Quantum Bands off him and allowed Rich to pierce his shield.
B) Ultron would've fucked everyone over at the end of Conquest, since it was her who channelled the angry souls of billions of Kree to cut him in half (though it is a bit debatable that they could've found some other way to fuck him up).
C) The entire Guardians team would've burnt to a crisp in the Dyson Sphere at their third mission, because she was the one who shielded them while Gamora closed the dome.
D) It's implied that the Dragon of the Moon would've eventually woken up from its slumber and gone out to royally fuck the universe.
And yeah, then there's the whole Magus thing which would've actually saved the universe if Magus hadn't seen it coming, plus the Thanos thing which is more of a "turned out nice again in the end" situation.
Anyway, point is, fun as it may be to hail her as Our Martyred Lady of All Fuckups, Phyla's awesome. And I really liked what little we got to see of her in >>93416081
>>93416189
>Ahead of their appearance in Captain Marvel movies?
>>93415870
Judge my-dude, that's not her split in two. That's the new girl Quasar that Spencer made and then did jack shit with.
Still. Phyla and Moondragon. Alive. AT THE SAME TIME.
>>93416224
wait that might be two of her fuck if I can tell.
>>93416112
Through it all, her spirit's alive.
>>93416189
>>93416192
I think Genis' problem is that you'd need to find a writer who really, really loves him, enough to actually want him back. And it's a shame because he's a fantastic character, but he's kinda fucked unless there's a sizeable Vell revival coming some day. Or PAD decides to go cosmic again.
>>93416224
No, Avril's got brown hair and no eye-thing. That's Phyla as Quasar & Martyr.
>>93416224
>>93416250
Check out Duggan's Guardians of the Galaxy issue 3. Or look at >>93415928
Both Quasar AND Martyr are stuck inside the Soul Gem somehow. So there's a chance we might get two Phylas.
How the universe plans to survive that, well...
>>93416263
Yeah I know. I thought I was looking at lighting effects, but that preview shows otherwise.
>>93415847
When is her brother coming back?
>>93416291
S/D please.
>>93416292Selfcest
>>93416292
Fuck why is Gamora now some weird fetish ninja thing instead of Space Red Sonja.
I'm so happy for you, Judge.Dammit, why'd you have to get me into The Question now I'm disappointed by every Shiva appearance.
>>93416325
Ooh man, you should really read that issue if you want some Maroto Gamora goodness. If only for one page.
>>93416319Hateselfcest.
>>93416350
Man, that's part of why I'm so hype for this. One of my favorite characters is coming back after seven years, written by someone who is pretty good and genuinely cares about her. This is some planetary alignment shit.
>>93416354
>Hateselfcest.
Now Carol's the trendsetter.
>>93415847
Why does this look like a Yu-Gi-Oh card?
>>93416354
I've been meaning to catch up with Duggan's stuff. I have it all, I've just been retarded.
I jumped ship with Bendis and as near as I can tell, that was in no way a mistake.
I may try Ewing later, but for now just Duggan's few works.
Can't wait for her to get the comic cancelled the way she got avengers alliance game cancelled
>>93416390
Because it's gloriously over the top and nonsense without a shit ton of context.
Abnett and Lanning knew what they were doing for Conquest. The Heavy Metal levels absurdity were on purpose. As shown by that pointless Wraith guy who's never shown up again.
>>93416420
That entire mini was just glorious. I know Conquest gets a bad rep, but I really dug the whole mix of genres it had going for it. So Nova felt more like straight-ish superheroics, Star-Lord went for war, Wraith tried to be horror, and Quasar went full Heavy Metal sci-fi sword and sorcery.
>Dem first few pages of issue 4 with the cool-ass parchment corners
>>93416387
I recall Duggan said he has over 30 issues written thusfar.
Started working in November, I believe. He's the king of seeding plot threads. I ought to reread his Infinity Gauntlet mini from SW. The part with the Time Gem is nuts.Got the Conquest omni last month as a blind buy. Uncertain whether to search for Anhilation material prior to reading.
>>93416390
Speaking of cards, here's a few.
>>93416529
If you haven't read it yet, do try to read Annihilation first. It'll give you a good idea of how we all got here, but it's also a fucking awesome event on its own.
So gents, I've been out of cosmic since the end of Annihilators. Dabbled a bit with Sams comics. I've meant to read Hickmans mess, if only to give later Starlin OGN's context. Was anything else worth it? I hear Ewing often.
>>93416492
Conquest is worth it for
1. Phylla riding her dragon girlfriend
2. GotG
3. That one fantastic cover on Ultron
>>93416462
Sweet, I actually hadn't seen this before!
>>93416572
I haven't read any of that except Ewing's work on Ultimates and it is fucking phenomenal. Just full-on cosmic abstracts and tenth-dimensional madness, rewriting reality in every issue. The Ultimates themselves kinda get lost really hard, but once you twig to that it becomes a much smoother read. Grand stuff all around. Even if it *is* keeping Ewing from writing more Zombo.
Top quality slav redesign.
Some early redesigns.
... I got no idea, but that'd be a sweet alt costume in a fightan game.
>And then there was that time Phyla summoned an army of golden Ray Harryhausen and sci-fi monsters to beat the shit out of the Super Adaptoid before shanking him right through the chest
>>93416578
Just a week old!
I hope that Darkhawk joins the team too, with all of the Raptor stuff coming up.
Is Duggan going to make cosmic Marvel great again?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhvUpykF7OM
>>93416555
Visited the comic shop I used to frequent in college a week or so back, and he heard through the grapevine that there's a good chance it's gonna be reprinted in the future. Based on the recent Cosmic Omnis I wouldn't be surprised if it returns in some way, shape of form.
But enough not contributing. Time for a late-night storytime!
I can hold off if you have more Phyla to post, you have dibs.
>>93416925
Here's hoping!
>>93416977
Go for it, man!
>>93416572
Okay so for awhile things were doing pretty good but then most everybody with talent (Remender, Gillen, Hickman, etc...) jumped ship after Secret Wars and so we're kind of down to the dregs writer wise, which I can only imagine why they keep giving books to Bendis.
The last beacon of hope in this dark future is Al Ewing, whose claim to fame is being able to build upon decades old continuity to create the some of the greatest "hell yeah" moments in comic history and is slowly but surely working his way up Morrison levels of meta-narrative on the nature of the superhero comic book. (Somebody really needs to get the two of them in a room together to work on a new Avengers/Justice League crossover). Here's a short rundown of his work for Marvel that all sort of flows together (ie after Might Avengers ends, most of the characters he was writing about jump ship to either New Avengers or Ultimates and continue from there).
Mighty Avengers (2013)
Loki: Agent of Asgard
Captain America and the Mighty Avengers
Ultron Forever (3 issue miniseries)
Captain Britain and the Mighty Defenders (Secret Wars Tie-In)
New Avengers (2015)
Ultimates (2015)
Contest of Champions (2015)
U.S.Avengers
Ultimates^2
Royals (I never thought I'd ever give a shit about Inhumans, but here we are)
Rocket (Yes, Ewing is now writing a trash panda book, haven't read it yet, but I've heard good things)
Duggan was NOT a mistake.
I missed my fuck up-fu.
>>93417047
We're getting Chris Samnee on a Star-Lord issue next.Zdarsky's run was pretty good.
>>93416222
>Phyla
>possibly Rich if the rumors are true
I seriously want to get hyped about Captain Marvel now.
Duggan is one of the reasons I started buying comics.
>>93417105
Everybody working on it is great so I'm already hyped.
If Brie gets to flirt with a Phyla that's gravy.
I'm so glad Duggan is using Kuder to the fullest extent. He was being wasted on Death of X. The use of Scale in the book is tremendous.
>>93417163
>>93417180
This bit was fucking great. Just the unceremonious plunk of Galactus' face.
>>93417046
>le who? meme
>le rocket jailbreak meme
>le nobody respects star-lord meme
Why do we like this again?
Okay, is there a reading list for Phyla-vell and Moondragon out therE? Because I am 100% down with tough as nails take no prisoners space lesbians killing aliens
>>93416084
Bunn's Drax is seriously underrated
>>93417073
>spoiler
No it wasn't.
>>93417288
You can start at Peter David's Captain Marvel, volume 5, but it is more than a bit confusing to just jump in there, since it was the tail end of years and years of character work. Your safest bet is to start at Annihilation, then Conquest, then Guardians, and straight in till dawn.
>>93417073
>this whole page
What the fuck?
This makes Gunn's Peter look like cyborg-lord.
>>93417336
Okay, so Annihilation, then Annihilation Conquest, then DnA Guardians, and then read till it's over?
>>93417288
Me too, anon. I've been waiting for Captain Marvel to make out with Abigail Brand for months now.
WHEN'S PHY-VEL
>>93417391
Yep. War of Kings happens around the middle of DnA Guardians and is also worth reading, if a bit clusterfucky. But for modern Phyla and Moondragon that's the main stuff.
And when you're done, try to go back and read PAD's Captain Marvel run too. It's some really good stuff and it will also fill in a couple of blanks.
>>93417446
Alright, thanks. I'll just need to find some rips and hope to god my computer can open rars.
>>93417465
When did you join the internet? yesterday?
>>93417255
Oh let them throw the moviefags a bone here and there. We're out from under the heel of Bendis and his perennial cosmic slog.
>>93417313
There was some some good character stuff in there despite the earthbound setting. I liked the annual in particular.
>>93417486
>Oh let them throw the moviefags a bone here and there. We're out from under the heel of Bendis and his perennial cosmic slog.
Literally what have they been doing since 2012. Dugganfags are fucking deluded.
>>93417480
Nah. I know how to get them. Problem is my computers are super inconsistent about opening rar files (Which is what something like Annihilation rips would be packaged in). Also I'm tempted to just get the physical copies
I feel Avril Kincaid was meant to have a larger role in the MU, but got her plans salvaged. I recall she was meant to appear outside of the Steve Cap book post CWII.
>>93417524
>i know how to get them
>my computer is inconsistent about opening rar files
Yeah, you're not fooling anyone.
>>93417465
Oh boy dude. Get CDisplay or whatever hot comic program is out now. It opens .rars, or more likely the special comic formats, in nice readable flippable forms.
Somebody get this man a link to some shit.
Or maybe it was after Standoff, even?
The fact that she was never utilized just compounded what an empty legacy character she was.
>>93417486
Dropped it in issue 3.
I'm not interested in quirky Star-Lord hanging out with Old Man Logan. The whole earthbound shit was awful period.
The book struck me as being more interested in showing beefcake than actually being entertaining.
>>93417541
>Marvel
>plans
There's your problem friend.
Damn.
I just remembered walking past the Marvel booth at C2E2, where they were doing book giveaways to the crowd, and trying so desperately to get them to chant "Make Mine Marvel".
I knew there was a reason why I felt like reading Annhilation: Conquest again today.
>>93417614

I'm seriously thinking on doing a bingo for this shit.
>>93417560
>>93417546
I've been going here for 5 goddamn years, I have CDisplay or whatever the fuck it's called installed the moment I get a new computer, and I know how to open rar files. The problem is that half the time my computer acts like a piece of shit regardless of the program I do use and freezes up. Granted, I haven't tried it on this computer yet but still.
God knows I wouldn't have been able to storytime all of Ragman if I didn't know how to do this
>>93417541
>>93417563
Man, I'm gonna sound incredibly cynical over here, but to some degree it feels like Spence jumping onto the Marvel Diversity Females bandwagon. Dude said he loves Gruenwald and Quasar and that I can see, but instead of using Wendell he comes up with a boring-ass OC Donut Steel in hopes of... what, making it big like Kamala or America? Turning her into a "cult favorite"? The whole thing feels both terribly calculated and incredibly half-baked. Then again, I do have a bias the size of Jupiter here...
>>93415847
You know that she's just going to be Martyr again, there's no way Spencer's oc is going away anytime soon.
>>93417638
She's a lesbian?
I swear to god damned christ almighty on high if any writer tries to wedge her in as a love triangle spoke between Moondragon and Phyla I will be god damned exasperated.
>>93417653
No, it's not. I don't think anyone would want to be heard saying that out loud and the fact it was used back in the sixties doesn't excuse it for sounding completely awful today. And I'm not even gonna mention Marvel's track record at "going back" in their books.
>>93417660
>2012
Explains why you sound (and act) so much like a newfag.
>>93417511
Mugga I ain't a "Dugganfag", I'm a longtime /co/smic reader who's accepted after 5 years that Marvel wants the characters to be familiar to casuals. You wanna stay hung up on that, more power to you.
>>93417585
>I'm not interested in quirky Star-Lord
Ah, so you're a Giffen purist then? At any rate, I appreciated Zdarsky highlighting Quill's nature as a cosmic drifter. The annual was definitely in the vein of the classic stories. It was nice to get a serious Star-Lord one-shot after years of Humphries.
>>93417668
Honestly, with both Quasar and Martyr in the soul gem, it's possible they might go with a merger deal. Like they're both halves of her, one at her highest and the other at her lowest, and she has to balance all that shit to become whole again.
Or yeah, maybe she'll be Martyr. I'm OK with that too. Girl had a cool color scheme.
>>93417679
She's got a girlfriend already.
>>93417664
>but to some degree it feels like Spence jumping onto the Marvel Diversity Females
Literally what happened.
>>93417720
It's midnight, I've been drinking, and I am very tired and have terrible luck with computers
>>93417668
But I was actually expecting for Martyr even before female Quasar. Or maybe she'll just go without a codename just like everybody on the team bar Peter.
>>93417664
Eh, regardless of her use, she was still better used than Fan Favorite Harper Row.
Hell, she's still a better Legacy character than other Marvel ones, since she doesn't step on the toes of Wendell to inflate her "popularity".
>>93417745
It sounds more like you drink too much.
>>93417656
Drax is literally a former musician.
Time for Payoff!
>>93417727
I like Giffen, but I'm not a fanatic. It's just that a quirky Star-Lord is just shit.
You talk about pandering to casuals, but movie's Peter doesn't even act like a retarded manchild all the time but Marvel seems to love it for whatever reason and Zdarsky wasn't the exception.
The only modern iteration of Star-Lord that was worth a damn, and I'm talking about 616 not AU versions, was Abnett's in Guardians 3000, and maybe Starlin's (though he went full movie too).
Here's to you, Judge.
>>93417745
It sound more like you're a retard.
>>93417825
I know that, anon.
It doesn't excuse the fact they once again shoehorned the "Drax can't get metaphors" joke from the movie.

>>93417856
But Quill's been "quirky" (vague buzzword though it is) since DnA got their hands on him. And Zdarsky's wasn't a dumb airhead like Bendis' or Humphries', he actually explored his character.
>>93418021
So, it is safe to assume the Starlin books are non-canon? But I think Adam's Tribunal showed up on the Ultimates.
FREE PHYLA
>>93417958
The more you know...
Wait what how's she coming back?
>>93418159
Fuck if we know. All we know is she's trapped in the Soul Gem (somehow) and Duggan has promised she's coming back, plus she's in the cover for an upcoming arc about the gems. So we're in wait and see mode.
>>93418066
I believe that Lord Chaos and Master Order killed him in Ultimates^2 #2.
Otherwise, Starlin Thanos had been alluded to during CWII.
>>93418065
>But Quill's been "quirky" (vague buzzword though it is) since DnA got their hands on him
lolno.
He was sarcastic and quippy, mostly to taunt whoever he was fighting against or to make funny remarks in the middle of the ensuing chaos. He made jokes, yes, he made sarcastic remarks, yes, but never acted like a complete clown or was made fun of as often as he does now. You'll never find DnA Star-Lord doing this kind of shit >>93417073. Not even Pratt-Lord is that much of a goofball.
And Zdarsky was fucking garbage. Like I said I dropped it in issue 3, and everything I recall about his Peter is him being a lame lazy fuck not too different of what Bendis was doing. Humphries was just on another whole level of shit so at least there's that.
I hate that Nihilist Thanos was ignored immediately.
>>93418212
Obligatory crow eating post on GLs quality.
>>93418212
Dumb shit like... what? What in that panel is so dumb and "quirky?" Cause it looks to me like he's stealing a ship while being sarcastic and quippy. Really, it sounds like you're just upset about the music.
>everything I recall about his Peter is him being a lame lazy fuck
Well you should read it and pay attention. It's only like six issues and the annual is trippy cosmic goodness.
I love this whole negotiation sequence. The use of shadow, and the concept of the background.
>>93418066
They're canon. Just in the way that OGNs usually are where it's "canon" only in so far as it gets referenced in current stuff. Adam Warlock became the Living Tribunal... but then he was killed, so it hardly matters. Universe-8 Thanos had his happy ending and retired to Death's domain, but then Universe-7 Thanos re-appeared and replaced him as the Thanos of 616 so that doesn't matter either. Annihilus was sealed away by Adam Warlock, but then let out back to normal minus the buffs he got during the Starlin OGNs.
It's a whole lotta "yes, it's canon, but..." where when it's all said and done, everything that happened in them has been reversed as to be pointless but it did still happen.
One of the superior Captain Marvels.
And that face in the last panel.
>>93418366
That face really makes me want to see Kuder draw Warlock/Magus.
>>93418388
I want to see Kuder's take on Pymtron. Heck, the biomechanical body-horror takeover of Ultron across the galaxy set up in Uncanny Avengers would be great to see depicted more. Got a glimpse in a recent Deadpool.
>Rich and Sam team-up coming eventually
neat.
And that, as they say, is that.
Hope others may enjoy this book.
>>93418289
>What in that panel is so dumb and "quirky?"
I think you might have some brain problems, dude, because it's very clear:
>smiling like a retard all the time
>jumping onto the chair while still smiling like a retard
>first thing he does is to play music from his cassette player (remember the movie kids?!)
>the entirety of the second panel
Also there's nothing sarcastic in any of his dialogue in that page. I don't even know how you reached that conclusion.
>Well you should read it and pay attention.
Maybe you should because the very first time we see him he's lazying around and then Brand tells him to get a job. And then he gets a job... as a bartender in a villain pub... and then he mets Old Man Logan because this didn't sound like a Seinfield rip-off enough.
It was garbage. Haven't read the annual, might try it someday.
>>93418407
>Heck, the biomechanical body-horror takeover of Ultron across the galaxy set up in Uncanny Avengers would be great to see depicted more.
Duggan hinted he has plans for that.
>>93418461
Dark.
Thanks. If nothing else at least it's got some direction for the plot and characters and that's more than Bendis ever had. Kuder's art is really working with the inks as well, great stuff in here.

Anon, that's irony not sarcasm.
>Anyway, I'm tired of shitting up the thread
I don't see how arguing about a comic character in a comic forum is shitting up the thread, but alas.
I vehemently agree to disagree. And thanks, I'm also hopping Duggan won't shit the bed like Zdarsky/Bendis.
>>93418619
I really liked her EMH look. Neat combination of her Annihilation look and her Quasar costume.
>In the years between the Annihilation Wave drank Hala and the years of the rise of the sons of Thanos, there was an age undreamed of...
>Hither came Phyla, daughter of Vell -- white haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand -- a champion, a guardian, a slayer -- with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, destined to tread the jewelled thrones of the universe under booted feet...
>>93418670
Agreed. Looked cool and was pretty unique on its own. Plus, the Quantum Bands effect were really neat. Always felt like a huge wasted opportunity that the Guardians never featured again. That one episode feels more like an introduction than a proper adventure with them.
Haven't been able to find a good scan of this yet. But yeah, Philip Tan Phyla. Fucking awesome.
I want to believe but I do not trust Marvel at all. But still this is a nice bone even though her in soul gem doesn't make sense
Fun fact: earlier this year, Rosemann confirmed in an interview that the plan was to give Phyla her own spinoff solo after Conquest, like they did with Rich after Annihilation. But plans changed, mostly thanks to Giffen's Star-Lord mini being a pretty big hit, so he got it turned into a team book.
>>93418800
It's just a variant cover, so don't believe it until you see it
>even though her in soul gem doesn't make sense
Nothing made sense about Rich's return or anything that happened after it. So, don't expect any here
>>93418800
Duggan has saidin Redditthat
>It may be a little before she pops back up, but rest assured, she will.
She's also shown up in the cover for the upcoming GotG arc about Gamora going looking for the gems. We know Gamora wants to free her older blind self from the Soul Gem, so odds are Phyla will come along for the ride.
Hope springs eternal.

I'd be mad about this, but it's probably for the best.
>>93418830
watch it end up being some huge trick of magus/goddess or something.
still even if she doesn't come back to life per say, it's still better than nothing
>>93418859
Honestly, I agree. I would've loved a Phyla ongoing by Gage or DnA, but I dunno if I would've traded it for Guardians, which is a series I dearly love from top to bottom.
>>93418865
See, what's giving me hope about all this in particular is that Duggan specifically name-dropped Phyla on an early interview about the run. I get the impression he actually cares for the girl. So yeah, I want to believe.

>>93418329
I would still like it if Universe-8 Adam is just having a nice vacation somewhere and vague enough about Finale to whether it did or did not happen.
Remember: it's canon that Moondragon keeps all of her costumes in her closet.
Even the white one with the heart-shaped cleavage window.
>tfw you go 70s manga instead of 70s euro comics
Fun fact: Bunn originally intended to bring Phyla back in Fearless Defenders, but plans fell through again.
Dodged THAT fucking bullet.
Oh yeah, speaking of manga...

>Hala was destroyed, so whatever was left of this statue is probably floating in space right now, if it hasn't been blown to dust yet
>Also literally everyone in this memorial came back before her
Even dead, Phyla's life sucks.
Alright, that's enough from me for today. Thanks for joining in, /co/. Have a good weekend. Try not to fuck up too hard. And if you do, don't go too hard on yourself. Don't carry the world on your shoulders. And don't be afraid of asking for help. You're not alone.
And if this thread is dead by tomorrow, well... we all know whose fault it is.
>>93419187
>Phyla's life sucks
Probably wasn't even any differences between it and the Underworld.
>>93419272
Glad to share the evening, Judge.During our talks, the owner of that LCS asked me if I've ever considered writing my own comics before, and encouraged me to to try it even if I never shared it with anyone.
It was a great confidence booster.
>>93416390
I doesn't. It looks like a Heavy Metal poster, you imbecile.
OH BOY I LOVE TAARNA AND HEAVY METAL IT'S MY FAVORITE MOVIE
I don't want to ruin your waifu hype Judge Anon but I have pretty much zero confidence for anything in Legacy, I can't get excited for this.
>>93422283
It's your ONE WAY TICKET TO MIDNIGHT
CALL IT
HEAVY METAL
>>93422350
Oh, me neither, but Duggan seems capable enough and dat Gamora issue was a real treat and a half, so I'm keeping a candle lit for it. At any rate, it's better than her coming back under fucking Bendis.
Also, sweet, thread's still alive!
>>93422350
I was gonna say that thanks to being Cosmic Guardians is pretty safe since there hasn't been any hint at them interacting with earth since Duggan started but they've already said that Legacy will affect all books.
Buuuuuut Duggan handled AXIS pretty well in DP so hopefully he can make this work
>>93415847
2009 was 8 years ago.
God's, I'm old
>>93422391
Reading Gru Quasar here in the JSA threads really gave me an appreciation for how Moondragon finally got to bang a Quasar. She waited a long time for it, I'm happy for her.
>>93422652
Now I ain't saying these two spent the entire gap between Annihilation and Conquest discovering fascinating new uses for the Quantum Bands, but I am implying it.
I mean...
Speaking of forgotten characters.
She's coming back Judge, but is she coming back to erf?
>>93415847
Huh.
>>93423214
God I hope not. Unless it's to see if in-universe Marvel has finally reprinted Marville.
I want Phyla to cuck Toni Ho.

It's not cheating if it's in another universe.
>>93417158
Gunn did hint at a "Quasar."
Who would play her? Debicki is already taken.
>>93424038
Man... I really would've loved to see Debicki play her. Anyway, someone on /co/ suggested Olivia Thirlby ages ago and I find it hard to disagree.
>>93424038
Felicity Jones needs to be in the MCU
>>93417010
Isn't that cute? He gouged out the eye of a policeman who was only doing his job.
How did you like her appearing in the current GotG?
>>93424307
Shit was grand, man. Phyla back AND drawn by Frazier Irving? Madness. Wish there would've been more close-ups but it really blew me away. Especially since it was so early in the run. I expected we'd have to read at least one full movie-friendly arc before delving balls deep into gems and warlocks and Phyla.
>>93415847
From the thumbnail i thought this was about the Heavy Metal Valkarie.
Not as excited now. I mean i kove phyla and moon dragon. But in current marvel?
>>93416629
The coolest issues are when they dump the Ultimates and it becomes a Galactus issue. Like the last one, god damnGalactu-ego
>>93424578
Fuck yes. It really is a Galactus ongoing under a different name and I love every page of it.It's gonna suck so hard when he goes back to being regular ol' Galactus once Ewing is done.
>>93417041
Haw is rhe Aimvengers? I loved the idea of Sunspot buying them out and using them for science. But i never read much
>>93424645
AIMVengers is also pretty fun. It feels like a thematic companion to Ultimates, since instead of going high concept it focuses more on low-key personal issues, character relationships and superhero comedy. It's good stuff that really tries and mostly succeeds in getting you attached to the cast. And yeah, Roberto is a fucking boss all the way through.
>>93424707
AIMvengers is an indication of what a crying shame it is Ewing isn't involved in the X reboot.
>>93424038
The actress on iZombie or the Iceland chick on sense8
>>93424578
Why isn't there a just Galactus ongoing? The shit with him is always a hundred times more riveting than just the humans.
>>93424628
Best-case scenario, he reverts because he expends all of his energy reviving the multiverse. Worst-case scenario Bendis is put in charge of it.
Oh.....I thought Heavy Metal was coming back. Never mind then.
>>93417041
Ewing's Rocket has been great.
>>93426253
He brought in the Technet, which ended up exactly as crazy as it should be.
>>93426278
>>93426253
Huh, should give it a shot then. That and Royals have been the only Ewing Marvel series I haven't checked out et.
>>93427036
Royals isn't very good.
>>93426253
The Cosmic line has been shaping up. Crying shame about Nova though.
Phyla's design is still one of my favorites in Marvel.
>>93424628
honestly it's a 1000% better when yass queen and friends are gone.
Playable Phyla in Future Fight WHEN???

Yes, this is a good thing. Marvel cosmic seems to be the first part of the franchise to shake off the retardation. Let's hope it actually lasts
>>93415870
who's the guy with the eye cloth
wait this is recent' i'd swear it's a late 90s cover
>>93416189
where's this one from? Can't remember it.
>>93416492
Conquest, a bad rep? I've seen nothing but praise for it. It gave us THE most baddast Ultron version.
>>93417041
>Captain America and the Mighty Avengers
>Ultron Forever (3 issue miniseries)
>Captain Britain and the Mighty Defenders
>New Avengers (2015)
>Ultimates (2015)
>Contest of Champions (2015)
>U.S.Avengers
AIMvengers seems like a good one, but are you sure about the rest? Conquest of Champions, US Avengers? What can yous ay about them?
>>93428652
Check out the 3rd issue of the Guardians >>93417849
>>93417869
pretty certain gamora's species was killed by thanos
>>93418329
>Universe-8 Thanos had his happy ending and retired to Death's domain, but then Universe-7 Thanos re-appeared and replaced him as the Thanos of 616 so that doesn't matter either.
>Annihilus was sealed away by Adam Warlock, but then let out back to normal minus the buffs he got during the Starlin OGNs.
wut
please elaborate
>>93418289
Basically Annihilation era Quill was pretty cynical and he dealt with it with a rather dark humour sense, but he never lost focus on the reality he was facing being fucked up
In a way, Quill's character was always running out of time, completely different approach to current quill.
>>93429332
Thanos was tossed out of reality by God Emperor Doom in SW.
Reed recreated a new Thanos with the universe resetting. Then the original Thanos got back into reality following the Ultimates on an out of timeline excursion.
>>93423220
Immediately the first thing I thought of, too.
Even heard the song in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNG_Kn-m73M
>>93429573
what about Annihilus? he's the same universe 8 annihilus but lost the buffs, or he means when warlock rebuilt reality in the OGN?
>>93427036
I've enjoyed Royals so far. Seems to be going for a slow burn type of story. Like how ultimates set up Infinity war for a year before even getting to the villain side of things.
>>93427406
Gimme a Marvel Heroes 3D Phyla with a 10/10 butt.
>>93416192
>>93416189
Wasn't the reason he was split up and scattered because his existence was tied to the big bang so it would undo the universe? Seems that Secret Wars would have fixed it since the universe was destroyed/recreated.
>>93429573
So wait does that mean there are two Thanos running around the MU right now?
>>93423345
>Phyla picks up a Captain Marvel comic
>"What the fuck is this shit?"
>>93431065
>"No Heather, I can't go to bed. Some d'ast corp of losers are talking shit about my dad. On the internet."
>>93428652
>Conquest of Champions, US Avengers? What can yous ay about them?
Conquest of Champions has Punisher 2099. If that's not enough, it really is a lot of fun. USAvengers actually picked up a thread from the end of CoC in the latest issue.
USAvengers is a continuation of AIMvengers. Roberto and his people get hired by the US government to be their official Avengers team.
>>93431065
Anon, Phyla is right in Anka's target audience.schlick schlick schlick
Phylabump
>>93427150
Cute
>>93424038
there's only one choice for Phyla. Antje Traue.
>>93433648
>>93431685
But Phyla's into women, not men with shitty hairstyles.
$5 they remind you in every issue that she's a lesbian. But great shes back, I would shit my ass off if she was in anything else non comic related
>>93433769
I love Antje, but I think she looks far too confident and collected to do a DnA era Phyla. Maybe PAD's. Or even Moondragon.
>>93434002
I guess.
>>93433790
>>93431685
You know what's the difference between Phyla and Carol, though?
She makes this look good.
>tfw Phyla never got to see Moondragon in that sexy legless variant of the Guardians uniform
Such tragedy.
>>93429533
Did you read anything after the Anihilation Conquest: Star-Lord mini? Cause the whole point of Conquest was to lift Quill out of his cynical funk? He was flippant as shit by GOTGv2, in fact Thanos summed him up by saying "you appear superficial and glib, but you understand."
Before skulls.
>>93436156
After skulls.
Skulls. Not even once.
>>93416192
Is it wrong that I only really liked Genis when Marz wrote him in Silver Surfer?
>>93429152
they were killed by the magus, who was retconned out when adam killed himself, so it was the badoon instead.
how many phyla images you got, judge?
>>93436896
Guess we're about to find out.
File this under bits of merch I'd love to own. Although I do have the Martyr one, which is also kinda cool.
Speaking of merch, funny story: with the new Adam Warlock/Magus Marvel Legends figure, the entire first line-up of DnA's Guardians now have action figures (even though some, like Groot or Gamora, don't have the correct uniforms). All of them except Phyla.
Someone should do something about that.
>>93415928
>hurr why are Warlock and Magus fighting
>>93437561
hey she just got debendisd. give her a while.
If at first you don't succeed, look up her partner.
>duggan retconning Groot's inability to speak properly anymore as literally having the ability to stolen from him
This Guardians run has promise
>>93416263
>Avril's got brown hair
Are you sure?!
>>93438280
You can feel the essence of Phyla in that fuckup.
Her hand guiding the colorist to google imagesearch and the first result for "female Quasar".
>>93416850
>Darkhawk
HOLY SHIT!!!! YESSS!!!
>>93416993
There are alien Novas again?
And of course, here's the last and hottest Phyla pic ever.
Nah, fuck that. Here we go.
Imagelimit = Reached. And I barely scratched the cosplay folder.
>>93438555
It's a new shitty mall cop tier Nova corps. No affiliation with Rich and Xandar Novas.
They get beaten by the Guardians, Deadpool, Fraternity of Raptors, pretty much everyone, they are a joke.
>>93438568
Noooo that made me cry when I read it
>>93438661
I just spent a month going "It's just a little eyebeams, she's still good, she's still good."
Then issue 25 hit. Seven years ago... Seven years...
>>93416192
Never, you don't come back from space aids.
>>93438661
And Scott Adsit (formerly SHIELD Agent Scott Adsit) is training them. He's the voice of Baymax in BH6.
>>93417109
Raptors exist again too?
>>93438661
>>93438888
Back in 09' I was hoping the Raptors would be the enemy of the Novas, their Sinestro Corps.
>>93417163
Wouldn't half the aliens down there not recognize the big purple guy and say he looks absolutely nothing like Galactus?
>>93417292
Quill listening to 90's rock
completely missing the point
Wait, is Bendis not writing Guardians any more?
I lost track a few issues in because the writing was slop. Has it picked up? Can I get onto the cosmic hype train again?
>>93439430
Bendis is out and Gerry Duggan is writing the main series. There's still a fair bit of synergy going on but there's a lot of promise to it, since he's said he wants to bring back a bunch of forgotten stuff, The first four issues were storytimed right here: >>93416925
Though feel free to skip to issue 3 if you want the *really* promising stuff. And some god tier art.
>>93415847
>She's coming back
Wouldn't that mean Oblivion would have to get off its ass and actually do something?
>>93416850
Jesus, has Darkwhawk been gone from Marvel since he was controlled into killing Lilandra?
>>93440270
Maybe? Apparently she, in both Quasar and Martyr form, has been trapped in the Soul Gem for a while. How, we don't know. But maybe Oblivion had something to do with it? We're gonna find out come September.Just in time for my birthday!
>>93440551
Yea everything about the Raptors was just dropped a couple months after that and never mentioned again.
>>93440270
He showed up in Great Lakes Avengers, but the series was cancelled before it could amount to anything.
So 6161 Novas are now the same thing as the MCU Novas?
>>93440896
rich has all the nova force
>>93438936
They could be that but first they need to unfuck the Nova corps into something worthwhile. I mean they were never that great to begin with but they were decent went DnA were handling them.
But now they are at their lowest, I mean they always jobbed but now they job, they are comic relief and chicken out.
>>93440896
Yes but they aren't the Xandarian Novas, it's just Adsit and a bunch of aliens going "The universe needs protection, we need to become the new Nova corps!" and all of them failing at it even worse than the actual Nova corps.
>>93441650
so, MCU mall cops in helmets that do nothing
>>93415847
That has to be the single worst weapon design I have ever seen. Even jrpg designers would shy awax from this retardation. It doesnt even look cool or interesting, it's simply terrible. The Idea that someone got paid to draw that baffles me. Everyone involved in this should feel bad about themself.
>>93445040
That isn't a sword, it is a hard light projection device like a Green Lantern ring which Phyla used to make a radical sword design.
>>93437597
ok that's cute
>>93438606
>And I barely scratched the cosplay folder.
damn it. I would have loved to see someMoondragoncosplay
>>93443073
They're building them back up slowly, the Raptors are gonna be their "rivals" who are distributing vigilante western justice while Novas are building up to normal cops again, I'm sure once Rich gets there they'll be bulked back up
