im at a loss of word on how i could explain this

I'm at a Loss myself.
>exact recreation in terms of panel to panel events
>actually feels less like Loss than the super esoteric shit like the Pollock inspired paintings because the panel placement is altered
>>93413995
no no no
its losangular
it fits so perfectly
its like that post modern pain that is tilted on purpose because the canvas is only horizontal when its tilted

I don't get it

This is why people laugh at art critics.

If anything, this shows how Loss SHOULD HAVE looked if Buckley wasn't a hack. Notice how panels are variably spaced to give you emotional impact - it doesn't FEEL funny.
Loss feels funny because of the panel layout. We see basically the same panel four times, it looks like it's building up to a punchline. It's inherently funny - and of course the reason why OTHER cartoonists use this format is because it's useful when you're doing a comedy gag strip. Buckley used it without understanding of the artform because he's a fucking hack.

Fuck....
>>93414726
So the short version is that Buckley made a funny joke by accident?
>>93415097
Basically, yeah. He was trying to make a tragic drama, but because he was still using the format for a comic strip, it came out funny.
It's as if someone was making medical drama and after someone has a miscarriage, sound guy accidentally added a laugh track, accidentally making it into a hilarious joke.

No, but this is.

TV Tropes call this phenomenon "narm":
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Narm
After a scene in Six Feet Under where a character is having a stroke and is shouting "numb arm" that slowly becomes "narm!" It's supposed to be tragic but a guy yelling "narm!" is just too ridiculous to take seriously.

I really don't think this is a reference to Loss. Beyond both being about a guy running into a hospital they have almost nothing in common. If you know Loss you can force the connection but it's really not there.

Shit that's funny
