I remember this comic going from harmless to extremely dark really fast.

I was expecting trolling.
This is an honest and fair choice.

The roller coaster ride of if it was cancelled or not put a stormcloud over a lot of the run.
A hard choice, but this is the one I've read the most out of my favorites so I'll go with this since I keep coming back to it.

Justice League International is everything a long running cape comics should be. It's funny, it's heart breaking, it's bad ass, and it's weird.

I agree.
I love this story so much. I feel a sort of kinship with Moore because whenever I write a story it is always a goof on the idea of stories, like I am too ashamed of my own artistic vision to just let the narrative be what it is. But Moore is a lot smarter than I am, and he peppers in the light humorous stuff with the dark morbid stuff with an expertise I can only aspire to. Watchmen is about a fantasy that seeped into reality in the midst of old fashioned Cold War era paranoia, and about America's relationship with its heroic icons. It's really a very good story.

Winner! Just wish the art was a bit better. It looked wonky at times.
