Yeah, during the Mud Pack arc. It gave him melting powers or some shit like that. He got so powerful Batman had to trick him into trapping himself in Earth's core and didn't return until Cataclysm. I think everyone just ignored his new powers after that.

A bit more than just a redesign, but I love Wonder Woman from Dresden Codak's Justice League Reboot. The others are pretty solid but this is the standout. It puts a slight twist on her origin story, so instead of a clay doll of a baby made flesh, she's a full-sized marble statue, given life to act as the protector of themyscira.

This is my favourite Power Girl design I've ever seen. It tells you something about her character right away.

The bulky boots and gauntlets emphasize her fighting style as distinct from the other Kryptonian heroes—she's a brawler; she throws wild punches and smashes through her enemies like a battering ram. She's not subtle.

The design also fixes the boob window, but it doesn't downplay her tits, or cover them up. Most superheroines have a big rack and a costume that shows it off, that's not the issue. Cards on the table, it's part of the reason I like Power Girl so much. But the Boob Window(tm) is stupid. Just give her a regular low-cut top, closing it over her collarbone is weird and pointless. No I don't have a collarbone fetish. ok maybe a little[/spoiler}

They definitely have different styles, yes. I'd describe it as the difference between a fighter and a Berserker.

Superman mostly changes his moves up to match his opponent, ie he might go for straight fisticuffs against doomsday, but facing non-brawler opponents he's much more precise and adaptable.

Supergirl is similar to superman, but she uses her flight and speed somewhat more than her strength. She also uses her other powers (heat vision, cold breath, etc) much more than Power Girl does.

Power girl has one strategy she defaults to in every fight: be stronger, be tougher, hit harder. That's not to say that she doesn't fight strategically, but the brawling, the smashing, the up-close sucker-punch that breaks the sound barrier, that's her style. She doesn't deviate from it if she doesn't have to.

I hope that makes sense. They're very similar, absolutely, but I think the differences are easy to see once you know what you're looking for.

IIRC, the original idea behind it was she doesn't consider herself worthy of having a Kryptonian shield, like the Super family, so she left a hole in the costume for when she DOES earn the honor. Obviously, it's an excuse for the boob window, but it would've been fun character development for her to eventually earn a shield of her own.

You realize point of a redesign is to make something that looks DIFFERENT from the original?

The problem with FF is that they have white on blue, that's a really boring color scheme where nothing really 'pops'. Adding orange to it is a pretty good idea (that's why Human Torch and Thing are orange, btw!), but I agree there's too much - what if they had a number 4 on their chests in bright orange?


Captain America is red, white and blue FOR OBVIOUS FUCKING REASONS YOU STUPID FUCK. GOD. It's unusualy design, but it emphasises his fists, arms, boots and head, all important stuff for a superhero, and looks very military - it's basically Winter Soldier suit with a less 'tacticool' and more bold color scheme.

The biggest issue to me is The Thing - he is WAY too inhuman. I mean, at this point even a blind woman wouldn't mistake him for a human being due to weight, hands etc. And if a blind woman can't think he's human - you see where I'm going with this?

Not a redesign, more a reimagining/compiling two characters into one.

I had this idea to basically combine Jason Todd and Damien Wayne and have them be the first Robin.

Basically it's meant to sort of add why Talia would revive 'Jason', in this case, not just because of how depressed Bruce had become, but also because it's her own fucking son too, the extra pain for Batman from the failure of not just losing his son to Joker, but the fact that he can never muster the nerve to just kill the Joker.

And in the end, when Jason returns, Batman just cannot fight him and is forced to rely on other members of the Bat family to bail him out. It's too much and confronting his own, revived, and vengeful son is too much and leaves him half-catatonic as his own true kryptonite.

(and do we need two, angry and edgy robins?)

Plus, it gives a bit of a new dynamic between Dick and 'Jason Wayne'.

Job of a character designer is to make a character stand out. If EVERY character has this trait, it stops being special.
For example, if you were designing a new X-Man, you PROBABLY wouldn't want to emphasize then being a mutant in their design, because EVERYONE ON THE TEAM is a mutant.

Or, to paraphrase Syndrome - "If everyone's sexy... noone is."

I'm not saying this is a good design for Harley, or even a good design for a black fat Harley. What if they actually used the fact she's black and gave her black and red dreadlocks with bells on ends, styled after jester's cap? That'd be interesting.

That's idiotic, being a mutant is the whole point of their team. However the difference between that and being generically hot is being a mutant can be widely varied. Nightcrawler and Colossus heavily emphasize they're freaks of nature. But they're widely different.

However being hotties usually serves the purpose of being seductive or whatever. However in the case of Poison Ivy it's actually pointless since she has pheromone powers. Not that I don't want her to be hot

Anyway, Colossus and Nightcrawler have things going for them ASIDE from being visibly a mutant - Nightcrawler looks like a demon which fits with the whole "catholic devil" think he's got going, and Colossus is a pun because Stalin translates to "Steel Man". They both have a thing aside from "he's a mutant!"
Imagine trying to introduce character like Beast or Angel nowadays in modern X-Men comics. No chance, noone would care.

They're ALL seductive, that's my point. At this point female part of Batman's rogue gallery turns into this weird seductive blob where we have idea of a generic female Batman villain.

Which gave us White Rabbit as being generic seductive sexy villain with generic 'kooky' design inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Complete fucking cookie-cutter, she could've been called "Female Villain" instead of White Rabbit and I'm not sure if anyone would notice.

My point is that White Rabbit encapsulates shared boring part of basically every female villain. Every female villain is hot, sexy, seductive. So why even bother including that in your design? Why bother putting effort into portraying a trait that noone will notice in contrast with others?
Especially for someone like Harley, for whom 'sexy' is not her most important trait.

Even better - if we make Harley (and some other female villains) NOT primarily 'sexy and seductive', then other female villains who actually NEED to be sexy, like Catwoman and Poison Ivy who are variations on a femme fatale archetype - will stand out more and feel MORE sexy in comparison, due to contrast.

Fem!Ventriloquist only appeared in Simone Batbooks which few people read; Orca is a terrible character design in every possible way; And Scarlet was a SIDEKICK to a minor villain that got written out at the end of her story and was never meant to be a lasting character.

Also all three characters designs are ugly, unappealing and mostly uninteresting. Don't act like there's some dichotomy where a female character can either be horribly ugly, or sexy with big boobs, and there's no middle ground.
