How out of touch are you? The special editions for this thing are sold out. Mania is hyped as fuck, the reception to it is so overwhelmingly positive. A lot of my friends who don't even play sonic games are interested in it.
NSMB is not a fair comparison as that shit was just the same rehashed game we've gotten several times over the last few years. Sonic mania does its own thing and feels like a new game in the classic series, it's like the Sega Saturn game fans should have gotten.
Not to mention it has really revered people working on this who have done excellent stuff in the past. It's looking good because it's obviously a passion project for them, they completely understand why classic sonic was so enjoyable.
To think mania won't sell is laughable, it's very obviously going to be incredibly successful.

That would happen at the end of season 2. I think Sega understands the style of that show did really well, and they might translate that experience somewhere else. The problem was that Boom as a game was the result of a development hell that should've been avoided after they made almost all the same mistakes in 06.

Boom has run its course, I actually dug the designs and more sarcastic and self-aware style of the dialogue but I'm sure the people working on Boom will just be moved to the main series instead.

the thing that got me to love this show was the body swap episode.

Watching Sonic Boom is actually one of the farthest things from Sonic autistry. I have a theory that Sonic struck a chord with the socially retarded because
A) The cute animals appealed to their inner kids
B) The anime design appealed to their inner weeb
C) The inappopriate edge that crept into the series appealed to their very outwardly present hot topic persona.

Sonic Boom made Sonic funny again, brought him back down to Earth. Or Mobius. Who gives a shit. At the end of the day, he's a blue Hedgehog who runs fast. Why we got shit like Shadow's brooding past, Hand Of Doom and human/animal romance is just ridiculous.

Sonic Colours was Sega trying really hard to fix their image. It did a lot well but it still made the mistake of taking Sonic too seriously, even if just a little. It's funny since I hated the Boom redesigns and wrote it off completely, but they turned Sonic into what Insomniac wanted Ratchet to be. All the characters got improved, in fact. Their personalities just got done correctly and while I enjoy the self awareness, the itself isn't too cynical.

It's also amazing that the show is so good considering its parallel games are considered worse than '06. I can't believe they managed to do that.
