What will animation be like in the 2020s?
>>
Lot more shows online via netflix, hulu and amprime
>>
I bet the first VR shows will come out
>>
As the next generation of children become young adults with access to social media, shows from their childhood (such as The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Chowder) will be rebooted.

Spongebob will continue its death march without any end in sight.

Independent animation studios will continue to be a novelty, the last vestige of animators who want to avoid working for the Mouse.

Web animation will experience a brief surge in activity, but ultimately by the end of the 2020s web animators will give up trying to make a living off YouTube and animations on the internet will consist of portfolio pieces for animators trying to apply at existing studios.

how can it be a death march if theres no death at the end?

>>93384441. 2D animation will probably never go back to the movie screen, but if there's any hope for it it's on television, more specifically in online streaming. Online streaming services, in conjunction with brand new platforms for content distribution, will help cultivate a new wave of animators (and webcomics, I'm predicting a new wave of webcomics to rise up).

I don't think cartoons will get any more or less SJW-y, though I do think the focus in progressive circles will shift from women and gay folk to black people, trans folk, and T O X I C M A S C U L I N I T Y. The alt-right will continue to exist, but it will stop being seen as some emergent trend in politics and just continue to exist as its own niche, less influential on the state of politics as a whole.

The inevitable death of the Cinematic Universe will cause Marvel to implode on itself, basically forcing a full reshuffling of the deck as Disney reconsiders its strategy. Expect new expansions into television, and the gradual Hollywood-ification of tv to lead to the inevitable end of the "golden age of television". As a result however, there will be a brief period of intense innovation in comics as companies desperately try to breathe life into the dying medium with any gimmicks possible. Things will eventually stabilize again but for a while it'll be a very interesting time to read capeshit.

As I said earlier, webcomics will make a resurgence of sorts, spurred by the growth of sites like Patreon and such that allow artists to live solely off their work. While it'll be far from rivaling the, say, manga industry, there will be some real gems that spring from it.

You're assuming streaming services will survive into the next decade. I wouldn't bet money on that
>>
1920's animation:
-black and white
-fun and surreal
-bouncy and happy
-jazz music
-traditionally animated
-timeless

2020's animation:
-it's shit

What went so fucking wrong?
>>
>>93384586
Why?
>>
>>93384586
why would they go away? Netflix and Amazon streaming won't go away unless the FCC and all major ISPs do their damnedist to kill them
>>
>>93384657
the audience
>>
>>93384420
Cheap ass flash and cgi animation. Also, they can't do anything with thought provoking so nobody's offended

Because net neutrality is dead, and even if it wasn't there's a bigger problem: people are less and less willing to pay for media, if they can't get it for free (pirated or otherwise) they just won't consume it. And ad revenue stinks.
>>
>>93385516
Net neutrality was their idea in the first place. Just because their scam failed doens't mean they won't keep going.
>>
>>93385516
Piracy is a service problem, Netflix and other streaming sites are pretty cheap and come with a lot of content. They have been weening people from piracy. Just look at HBO Go, since it's launch GoT pirating has gone down significantly.
I'd be surprised if the lack of NN kills Netflix or Amazon, less popular service would stuggle tho, so let's not lose Net Neutrality! please....

>their
Who do you mean?
>>
>>93385820
Netflix, hulu, google, and other providers of HD streaming. Which uses up the vast majority of bandwidth internet. Netflix uses more internet than porn. Naturally they want favorable prices.

>>93385853
>this is how ill-informed American voters are
Well the internet was fun while it lasted
>>
>>93384420
Awful
>>
>>93385853
And? What's the problem with this? I don't care what their motivation for being on "our" side is.
