Basically it boils down to having the worst aspects of 'genius' characters coupled with the worst traits of teen characters. Remember how back in the day their intelligence built over time? How these heroes were well over their 40s and actually did the work? Now all these teens are inexplicably better at everything, at half the originals' age. It's baffling.

Plus, she's a black female. The smartest person in the world being the black female offspring of two regular people is less realistic than anything else. In reality, the smartest person is more likely to be an Asian guy with a Mathematician father and Physicist mother.

If you have the smartest person in the world but no friend/ partner to play off of them, the character becomes boring and comes off as a smug douchebag rather than a likeable character, and no, the dinosaur does not count, since Moongirl is just talking in technobabble to herself or to a creature that does not respond verbally and the artist fucking sucks at showing body language other than weird faces.

Its why Batman has Robin, Sherlock has Watson, Spock has Kirk, Rick has Morty , Armin has Yeager, and Bulma has Goku. Its also why they shove her into so many other character's stories because the writers realized that critical error of Moongirls. Unfortunately, they make her too smart to even build off/ utilize someone else, making her a boring, shitty character.

She, like a lot of the new young characters, have thing where they're written very well in their own books but dumbed down to obnoxious levels in any other appearances or team book. In the case of Moon Girl, they keep writing her like an bratty know it all, yet in her books she's actually charming with her flawed personality.

To give an example, America #2 or #3, I can't remember which and damned if I'll reread that shit. Apparently Moongirl is giving some sort of presentation at a fucking UNIVERSITY, and makes the equivalent statement of "Society is designed to benefit the majority, and not individuals." Which is a very fucking basic concept that even junior high kids should understand. So not only is Moon Girl ripping someone else's plot hook off, she did it wrong. As the seventh guy, you challenge the old men in the university and get a big head that drags you into adventure without flipping off other pre-established characters. You can be a precocious kid genius with the very line "Seventh smartest person on the planet." making you sound like kind of a pretentious asshole, which Cho, as a Cho fan, can be.

If you threw a "most potential" or "brightest young mind." or had something to lead Moon Girl into stories instead of turning people off by saying she's already done and teaching shitty college classes where she thinks people should take IQ tests to vote.

The soap contest ended up being a plot point engineered by the former sixth smartest and Athena, anyway, so it wasn't just a magic macguffin to justify him as being the smartest, because reasons.
