She'll definitely "appear" again, but her relevance is hugely diminished. Her purpose is to be a barrier between Marco and Star, and the show has already established that Marco and Jackie are happy together with the only issue being Star's feelings. Jackie has nothing left to contribute other than to prolong Star's suffering in season 3 and to make it so there's an actual reason why Star and Marco aren't fucking. Jackie will have some scenes in season 3 but she definitely won't be in season 4 or will have an even smaller role than whatever role she's getting in 3.

I've been waiting for them to expand her a bit, particular her past relationship with Marco. Her having a minimal role was so transparently obvious though. Even in the second season they only used her when absolutely necessary:

Sleepover: Marco's crush revealed
Naysaya: Marco tries to make an effort to be normal around her
Bon Bon: actual date
cameos in a few episodes just to remind you she exists, while getting like 2 lines
Just Friends: has to be there for cucked Star
Starcrushed: pretty much has to be there to emphasize relationships etc. + everyone else is there

Even there I'm not sure what exactly people are latching on to so hard, what makes her really special to them. And I actually like Jackie.

It's just not the same as if Ludo or Glossaryck or something never showed up again (putting aside the fact that she obviously will show up again). Like I really can't see what's especially compelling about her besides her relationship with Marco, which they've shown to the exact bare minimum needed.

That episode was about Star feeling left out and to show Star didn't personally hate Jackie for dating Marco.

I feel like "Just Friends" is actually one of the worst episodes because the first half is just devoid almost entirely of humor of a purpose. But, rewatching it that episode has Star touching Marco a lot and putting herself between Jackie and Marco. It was kinda subtle, but I think the theme was that it's Star that feel left out with Marco being in a new relationship.

The thing with this, anon, is that you can't make comparisons with season 1. In season 1 Jackie was not that prominent or different from the guys crush that appears in other shows.

The problem is they made a move starting with Sleepover and finishing with Bonbon. They changed the status quo, they settled an arc, a plot, so people were expecting something of course.

I wasn't comparing anything to S1 other than her personality, which stayed the same. Back during the S1 and early/pre-S2 threads there was a lot of "how do we know Jackie would go for Marco, we don't even know her personality," to which I'd argued they'd given some indication. Now maybe I got lucky and they developed the same traits I'd noticed, but from my perspective that indicates they'd never intended Jarco to NOT briefly happen, or more accurately they'd never intended to make Jackie look totally wrong for Marco.

My point, which I didn't directly state, was that the Jackie relationship happened to the minimum because it's never supposed to last beyond the brief relationship it is. Even in-universe, apparently Marco avoided her out of anxiety since Bon Bon.

And while showing that relationship minimally would be bad writing if we're supposed to really become invested in it or see it as deep, it's acceptable for something that we're supposed to be seeing for what it is-- they had 2 dates, which we saw, it's not awful but it's not going great and it probably won't last.

So in that sense it is being used, just not ideally for some. And I do think many are shippers being annoyed that the relationship isn't being given a "chance," when it can only develop according to the creators' plans anyway-- which from late S2 on were pretty clearly "it won't last."

Though I didn't say the character was written poorly, and I don't think anyone said that and it wasn't what I was responding to (could be argued that the relationship was written poorly, although the in-universe explanation provides an excuse-- though that could be seen as bad writing as well),

One thing going on with the show's writing that I don't think is a flaw right now but could become one, is that most of the important things seem to be happening TO Star rather than on her part. And while her reactions play a role in the outcome, she can feel like sort of a passive character in the larger scheme, outside of the episodic stories which usually are caused by her. This was especially noticeable in both parts of the S2 finale, with the focus on Moon, even though Star did play a role in setting all that up.

It is deliberate in that Nefcy's said Star is just trying to live her own life, not go out and save people etc., and I do think it's an improvement from how in the show's really early days people used to argue it was "really" Marco's story. We're getting much more insight on Star and the developments that concern her, while comparatively Marco is working toward things like his relationship but not really being explored to the degree Star is.

Just that I think we're getting close to the time when Star maybe needs to be more active in the plot (sometimes people ask why it has to be Star's fight but the show literally is "Star vs, the Forces of Evil"), and I'm hoping they can deliver.

It's not a relationship when they've LITERALLY NEVER SPOKEN TO EACH OTHER during all that time.
