Rulers of Earth is probably the best Western Godzilla comic ever made, by fans for fans.

After that, I'd look into the older Dark Horse stuff. No Toho kaiju other than Godzilla, but they're pretty fun for what they are.

Then look into Godzilla Legends, an anthology series that features and focuses on different kaiju.

And after THAT, just skim through whatever looks interesting. Marvel comics are good 70's schlock, Kingdom of Monsters is pretty bad, History's Greatest Monster is average, Gangsters & Goliaths is good, Cataclysm is interesting, and Oblivion is also bad from what I've heard.

Half-Century war was so good! I picked up the trade because I saw it recommended on /co/ and I adored it. Godzilla in Hell was certainly memorable too. Also if anyone liked Godzilla Half-Century War, Alien Dead Orbit is pretty good far. James Stokoe's art is so cool imo.

I guarantee you if this was Legendary's movie then the fanbase would have shat themselves in rage about how this wasn't a true Godzilla

The characters were garbage, for all the praise I see for them from the fanbase no one can remember their names. They didn't have personalities. The only thing we know about them is their name and job, and we only know that from lazy ass subtitles that pop up because Anno was too lazy to properly introduce them. Which sucks because he has handled large casts of characters before and has done it well. I loved Evangelion, it only proves he can make relatable and memorable characters.

Characters like that can work if they were used in fast paced or action scenes, but they were locked up in boardrooms far away from any danger the entire time

And don't try that "Well Japan doesn't care about the individual" or "Japan was a character" garbage, most other Godzilla movies have characters with personalities that didn't act like robots in them, I know because I own and have watched all of them.

G-Fest is a pretty down-to-Earth convention. It's a little more family-oriented (which isn't a bad thing IMO), but there's still a lot of stuff to do for adult fans. Well worth the trip, especially if you go with friends.

It's always in Rosemont, IL and there is no set number of tickets. The most you'll have to worry about is getting a hotel room at the convention which does sell out quickly. But staying on-site is really only for extreme convenience sake (or if you want to have an in-house kaiju TV channel). I'd suggest just booking a room at a nearby Motel 6 or something far cheaper. Sure, you'll have to drive everyday but it'll save you a few bucks.
