Hello, Storyteller.

So about this whole Diana having a brother nonsense. Which is better to be this mysterious 'Jason', Jason Blood or Jason Todd?

No wrong answers of course, this entire long lost relative concept is fucking stupid to begin with, so let's at least go full on COMIC BOOKS with it.

It's dumbfuck executives and/or cheapass Perlmutter.

They're convinced Marvel is a "premium" brand and making it the same price or less than the other brands makes it seem less important.

It's probably one of the single biggest problems with Marvel right now, they're trying to appeal to a broader market and get comics to more types of people, yet whoever is in charge of pricing and distribution won't let go of old business models.
>>
>>93346896
I would actually love the Argonauts to show up in WW because it's a huge pedigree of Greek heroes and there's loads of places you could take it. I mean, have they really not put Atalanta in a WW comic yet?

>>93347225
someone needs to do an NSM with it and actually research some Classical thought and work THAT into superheroing
>>
>>93347087
You have a conflict between your classic old dumb executives, the people who are still in the 2000-2010 mentality like Alonso, Brevoort and Quesada, and people who genuinely want to be progressive in both a cultural sense and a product sense where they have lines to appeal to kids and young adults.

At DC, Didio and Johns are REALLY GOOD at managing the relationship between editorial and executives. They're great at appeasing the suits without sacrificing their creative visions. I honestly doubt anyone at Marvel has the balls to stand up to asshole execs, and maybe rightfully because from everything I've heard the execs over there are far less forgiving.
>>
>>93347225
The Argonauts basically are Greek superheroes. And like the fun fuck-up kind of superhero too.
>>
>>93347175

I wonder if he is just getting tired of Marvel's editorial, or the lack thereof. I remember reading on /co/ (so of course it could have been BS) that he pitched the Scarlet Witch series because she was in the movies, and that the editorial board had not considered running a book to capitalize on that.

One of them was a PG-13 equivalent of JMS' Supreme Power, an "Ultimizing" of these characters.
The other one was Marvel's Injustice, with Iron Man as Superman.

It's kinda funny how she had been absent for so long, but once she came back, she exploded in popularity, and more or less became the secondary protagonist of the Aquaman books, taking up almost equal importance.

What's even better, is that absolutely no one seems to have a problem with that. I've even seen some suggest that Arthur take a break and focus on running Atlantis, while Mera take over the superheroing.

Not half bad for a character best described as "Aquaman's terrifying wife".

Not him, but I used to go through their solicits every month but it's just so samey. I think I Hate Fairyland was the last one that kind of looked a bit different but not my thing.

I know this is dumb because I read tons of capeshit anyway despite it all being somewhat similar. Maybe just emotional investment fueling that.

Plebs who constantly praise plebshit while shitting on original ideas because they're bitter losers who will never make it to the comic book industry. Nothing new to see here.
>>
>>93350398
Nah, there's a difference.

Capeshit sells you on characters that have been around forever and their broad shared universe.

The last time I checked Image solicits, it was basically "Generic Sci-fi pitch" for every other book's description, with little there to give you a reason to care.

no, capeshit is mcdonalds. you know the low quality but enjoyable food you're gonna get going in.
>>
>>93349506
To be fair this is mostly just Whizzer freaking out because his family is in danger.
>>
>>93350488
The other problem with original books is that you have to quickly do the groundwork to hook someone into the setting as well as the characters, and most people are not very good at that. So much work has been done in a Big Two capesetting already, both for the writer and the reader.

>what are you guys reading?
Picked up the second volume of She Wolf from Image and didn't care for it, he would've been better off leaving it at one volume. Still excited for his new series since he's 2 for 3.

Other than that read the new 2000AD collection of The Last American and loved it

This hasn't been the case for months, but sure, keep memeing.

>everyone who consumes cares about creating

lol

Last book I truly enjoyed was After Death. It has ideas unique to this medium and explored it very creatively. First time I felt like I wasn't reading schlock and gave a shit in a long time.

>genre fiction faggotry
Yawn. Tell me when they start publishing actual indie comics.
>>
>>93350844
Can't believe it was from Snyder of all people.

>>93350873
There's tons of companies for that: Fanta, D&Q, First Second, etc.
>>
>>93350955
Image is a schlock company, but like Dark Horse they happen to put out a lot of the best.
>>

>Can't believe it was from Snyder of all people.
His indie work though far and few between has always been solid. More solid I'd say than a lot of really popular writers.
>>

>There's tons of companies for that: Fanta, D&Q, First Second, etc.
Yeah I know. I just think what Image shits out isn't actually indie or avant grade. It's very much mainstream and schlocky.
>>
>>93351192
After reading the first issue of The Unsounded I feel the same about Cullen Bunn. Everything outside of the Big 2 I've read from him has been solid, I thought he was just a guy who wrote a lot of awful Deadpool minis a year ago or so.
>>
>>93351224
>isn't actually indie or avant grade
It's an independent company not an alternative one.
>>
>>93351286
I think I've yet to read a single thing from Bunn.
>>
>>93351328
Oh I do know the distinction, most people don't though. People pretend that Image books are true indie works whereas it's equivalent of big or moderately successful Hollywood writer directing an original mainstream film with enough budget.
>>
>>93351356
Give Harrow County a shot if you're interested, it's been my favorite ongoing since I read the first trade.
>>
RE: Image, actually I forgot about Redneck. I might get into it.

But yeah overall not really digging much from them.
>>
>>93351478
I will.
>>93351540
Is Redneck a mini?
>>
>>93351689
Not positive but I think it's an ongoing. Solicits don't have the (x of y) in them at least.
>>
>>93346773
My LCS is selling it for $2.99 because they care more about customers buying Marvel than apparently Marvel does, so they're willing to eat short-term loss in the hope of long-term better sales.
>>
>>93352341
Do you go to Ryan Higgins' LCS or are there multiple shops doing this?
>>
>>93352362
Yeah, I'm one of the California anons. (Hence just catching up on the thread now.)
>>
>>93350608
It's not a meme, it's an anecdote.

I haven't checked Image solicits in like, 6 months, at least, because I genuinely don't care enough to check solicits anymore for the most part. And that goes for every company.
