So what are the chances of us seeing some New Republic TIE Fighters? It seems like a tremendous waste to just take the millions of Fighters the Empire must have produced and just scrap them all.

And unless Seinar uprooted and moved its entire company to the Unknown Regions, I would think they'd still be building shit for the rest of the galaxy.

I mean unless there was a huge doctrine overhaul the TIEs simply don't fit with established rebel strategic dogma. It's not unheard of for previous generations of military hardware to get scrapped down in this universe, remember the Y-Wing smelting plant from Rebels?

Ok so apparently the TLJ trailer that was classified by the BBFC is going to be in 3D meaning that it likely appears before a movie meaning that it likely will be in front of Spider-Man Homecoming. If that's the case then we're probably going to get a new trailer in like 2 weeks.

Yes but those were Y-Wings built for the Republic/Empire. There were civilian models still in circulation, even if it wasn't under the Empire. I really don't think all those TIEs, especially the more advanced models, would get trashed just like that. Especially as a Republic, I would think each member would maintain their own force built around their own established protocols.

Nobody wants a young Han Solo movie. this is one of the few things the OTfags, EUtists, PTfags, and STfags can all agree on.

No one will look down on you for doing that. just re-purpose the storyline into a novel or comic.

This. I unironically love the new canon and what Disney is doing so far but this movie has seemed like a shitshow from the start.
>>
Ok so if it was 'creative differences' then this means that Kasdan likely didn't agree with what the other guys were doing with the writing and they all decided to get new directors. If this is the case, depending on who the new director is, this might actually make the movie better because it's possible that the original script was too quippy and jokey where this new script might be more of a gritty crime action movie with jokes here and there similar to ESB (but replace the crime part with fantasy obviously).

It's more likely that Kennedy didn't like where it was going rather than Kasdan. This could honestly go either way since we don't know what direction they were going. The reshoots and re-editing of Rogue One ended up being a good thing so who knows, this might also be a good thing.

It's still kind of troubling that we've had two spinoffs and both have had major issues during production.

that'd be tight for an anthology film but I don't want any fuckery for Episode IX.

Joe Johnston and David Fincher both got their start working on Star Wars, with Johnston even being the person who designed Boba Fett's armor. Either one directing Episode IX (more likely Johnston than Fincher) would be pottery in its truest form. George would be happy.

Plus I was watching the behind the scenes stuff for Jurassic Park III last night and Kathy Kennedy was talking about how Joe Johnston was their first choice to direct and how she and him have had a long working relationship, so it's a possibility.

My guess is the directors had some element like drugs or something behind the scenes (maybe they smoked pot on set or something stupid) and Disney cut them out immediately. They seem like the kind of directors who probably smoke a joint behind the scenes and they're probably used to doing little movies where it's easy to get away with it.

Keep in mind Kennedy never said 'good luck in future endeavours' and they never said a single nice thing about her or Lucasfilm in the press release meaning that they fucked up big time and decided to leave the project instead of getting fired.

Yes they are retard. Just because you haven't seen it yet doesn't mean they won't put it in the game. And it better not just be "it's the mickey mouse company of course they're clean" I mean actual evidence that Disney would fire a director for smoking pot on-set.
>>
>>93348534
No I'm not basing this off the 'family friendly' meme. I'm basing it off the fact that Disney is a huge media company that tries to avoid scandals and controversy at all costs and the fact that multiple people working on the sets of the MCU movies and the past two Star Wars movies have said that Disney makes sure everything is very clean cut with no troublemakers.
>>
>>93348575
Any company would fire a director for smoking pot on set if they found out. Especially a big company like Disney. If you smoked pot on the set of a Warner Brothers movie and the company found out you would be fired. If you even smoked pot on some porn sets you would probably be fired because no company wants illegal activities happening on their sets and fucking with potential profits when people get arrested or the general public finds out.

>Hey guys, so in a live stream, we said we heard that Anakin and Darth Vader wouldn't be playable at the same time. Some people are taking that to mean that Anakin won't be in the game at all. We have no idea about that. All we heard was that there are discussions on how to handle two characters that are technically the same person fighting with each other.

>Some people have been all up in arms about this, saying that it's ridiculous to have cross era gameplay but not have both Anakin and Vader.

>Although Rey and Maul and Han Solo and Boba Fett were all fighting together in Assault on Theed, that decision is not final either. Cross era gameplay may or may not happen, but Dice wanted to show off content from all eras at EA Play.

>Hopefully that clears up some things. We definitely didn't mean to cause an uproar or any confusion.

All that was said was that Vader and Anakin likely wouldn't be playable at the same time because they are the same person, but Reddit being fucking Reddit couldn't wait to unleash a diarrhea stream of low quality memes of screencaps of Anakin from ROTS with some shitty quote from the movie plastered over the picture in impact font so they could all circlejerk eachother with upvotes and more regurgitaed prequel quotes.

Ok I'm just going to start off with this. Has a single one of you ever had a job other than delivering newspapers or running a lemonade stand? You know those stupid rules at that job like how you might get written up for cursing even though nobody really gives a fuck just because you might make customers uncomfortable? Or how you shouldn't jack off in the bathroom because it isn't the time and place to be sexually pleasuring yourself and if you're caught doing so you might get fired? This is like that. It's stupid things that technically don't hurt anyone but you best believe that if you do it and your higher ups find out you did it you would be fired right there on the spot. Fuck.

>>93348702

have YOU ever worked in Hollywood? As a director? they don't fire you over little shit like smoking weed, especially when they've invested 200 million in your movie.

http://www.thewrap.com/phil-lord-and-chris-miller-met-with-dc-about-the-flash-during-han-solo-hiatus-exclusive/

>Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller met with DC Films during the production hiatus of the Star Wars “Han Solo” spinoff, insiders exclusively told TheWrap.

>The duo met about the possibility of directing “The Flash” after Rick Famuyiwa left the project over creative differences last year, according to multiple individuals familiar with the project. It was unclear whether they were already considering an exit from the “Han Solo” project.

>The two said in a statement Tuesday that they were leaving the “Star Wars” spinoff over creative differences.

>“Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis is currently the frontrunner to direct the DC Film’s “The Flash,” one of the insiders told TheWrap.

>The film, starring Ezra Miller as the titular speedy superhero, would mark a return to the world of sci-fi-infused fantasy for the “Back to the Future” director, known for blending emotional stories with top-notch visual effects.

>Lord and Miller originally wrote a treatment for “The Flash” back in 2015, but were never attached to direct the superhero pic about the Scarlet Speedster.

>“The Flash” is a superhero whose incredible speed allows him to time travel. The character is going to be a part of Zack Snyder‘s “Justice League.” He debuted in last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

I don't even know how to argue against that. Do you seriously believe that nobody on a huge set for a PG-13 movie for kids would be a little worried if they found out the directors were smoking pot given that IT'S FUCKING ILLEGAL AS IN YOU GO TO JAIL IF YOU'RE CAUGHT DOING IT. These movies have hundreds of people working on them. Do you think there isn't a single person who wouldn't tell Disney if someone were doing something illegal on set possible afraid that if they don't tell them they could be fired as well for allowing this to happen.
>>93349228
And I addressed that here:
>>93349063

>You made a claim and were asked for citation, the burden of proof is on you.
I made a claim that is very obviously true. I absolutely refuse to go through thousands of pages of corporate policy for the next week straight just to prove to you that Disney doesn't allow it's employees to break the law while they're supposed to be doing their job.
>>

>Kennedy had her own ideas about how the film should be shot. In an interview with Variety last year, she said she wanted the film to have “…a heist or Western type feel,” adding, “We’ve talked about [Frederic] Remington and those primary colors that are used in his paintings defining the look and feel of the film.”

>Some insiders believe that while Kennedy wants to make a splash by hiring young indie directors such as Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) and Rian Johnson (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”), she’s ultimately unwilling to empower them to make their own creative decisions.

>Unlike Edwards and Johnson, Miller and Lord felt they had earned their stripes, having worked extensively in the major studio system.

So I guess it all stems from this

To be fair he has a point. The argument has gotten so absurd that people are arguing over whether Disney would fire someone for literally breaking the law during work hours.

so we now know that Kathy Kennedy is the overlord of the franchise and Abrams definitely didn't have much leeway with The Force Awakens and isn't to blame for it being a rehash of A New Hope. He probably was told that was the movie they were making and he could take it or leave it and he figured it was a once in a lifetime chance so he took it. I mean the movie has problems that are definitely his fault but I think the bigger picture faults can now be attributed to Kennedy/Iger.

And now the future of the franchise is fucked because now that they know the director can get fired with 3 weeks of shooting left, no filmmaker worth a damn is going to work for Lucasfilm so we're just going to get Bret Ratner types directing the rest of the movies. It'll be like Marvel where they had extremely talented directors for Phase 1 of the MCU and then after Iron Man 3 they decided to just get directors who have only done small horror movies or tv shows and can easily be pushed around.

The Last Jedi will be the last good Star Wars movie, screencap this.

Not so much that illegal activities are allowed but that no one would raise that much of a fuss over something as harmless as weed. He doesn't quite get that a movie director isn't going to be held to the same standards as a janitor.

It has rules like 99% of other jobs? Like how you can't just pull your pants down and take a fat steamy shit on the floor of the red carpet while you're doing press for your new movie? Wow then I guess I've had jobs with rules too!

Honestly this really is going to drive filmmakers away from working with Lucasfilm. Even if they approached me out of nowhere and asked me to direct a Star Wars film despite the fact that I'm a literal literallywho, I'd have to think about it. And normally I'd say yes before they finished the question, but after all this is coming out? I don't know...

I really hope Spielberg and Lucas were right all those years ago when they said superhero films were going to go the way of the western and that there was going to be an implosion in hollywood with all of these films having bigger and bigger budgets and still flopping. It's probably why Spielberg has stopped making blockbusters despite being THE blockbuster director for decades. He's smart enough to distance himself for when the bubble bursts.
>>
>>93349782
That was legitimately funny, though. I can see "they'll be fired for drugs!" guy just being kind of naive, but "real Americans can't tell a Russian accent from a Mexican accent anyone who says otherwise is a false flagging Eurofag!" guy was the dumbest shit.
>>
>>93349987
Apparently people weren't leaping at the chance to do Star Wars to begin with, mainly because none of them want to deal with the high expectations of it.
>>
>>93349987
So far Johnson seems to be having a relatively smooth production but it is probably a big red flag to other directors when two of the four Star Wars movies under the current management have had huge production problems requiring extensive reshoots and now the directors actually being fired. Like even if they weren't happy with what Edwards was doing they never went as far as to outright dismiss him from the movie.
>>
>>93350089
In this case it sounds like the issue was with both sides- Kennedy, Kasdan and company apparently had a more demanding and controlling style than Lord and Miller were used to, while it also sounds like they kept expecting the kind of loose production they were used to and didn't do much to shape up.
>>
>>93350089
>>93350161
It also sounds like they kept trying to do more a comedic tone than Kennedy was used to, though you have to wonder why they were hired in the first place if that wasn't what she was looking for.

Kasdan will probably finish it since he wrote the film. I've heard Ron Howard and Joe Johnston's names thrown into the mix but I can't see either of them thinking it'd be a good idea to direct this, especially when it's 90% filmed.

I can respect your opinion (except when I jokingly shitpost about it) as long as it's merely a matter of personal preference on aesthetic style and not an objective proscription against a design as "bad." Everyone is entitled to their personal preferences; after all, I vastly prefer the OT Y-wing to the TCW Y-wing, feeling the extra armor plating ruins the visual profile. As long as we agree that arguing over "realistic design" in a scifi series is foolish and petty (unless it pertains to in-universe consistency).

Looks like quips were the root of the problem.

>Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the style and vision of Lord and Miller clashed with that of Lawrence Kasdan, the legendary screenwriter behind the classics "Empire Strikes Back" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark", who also wrote, with his son, Jon Kasdan, the script for the Han Solo standalone set (for now) to be released in 2018.

>Lord and Miller ("21 Jump Street", "The Lego Movie") have a comedic sensibility and improvisational style while Kasdan favors a strict adherence to the written word – what is on the page is what must be shot.

>The creative clash, accordidng to one insider, came down to differences in understanding the character of Han Solo. “People need to understand that Han Solo is not a comedic personality. He’s sarcastic and selfish,” said that source.

>The friction was felt almost immediately when the movie began shooting in February, sources say, but the directors always thought it could be worked through. Kennedy, the producer and head of Lucasfilm, decided to back her lifelong colleague, who shaped much of Solo’s character in "Empire" and "Return of the Jedi" and who had a specific tone in mind for the new movie. The duo also didn’t feel they had the support of producer Allison Shearmur, who was acting as Lucasfilm’s representative on the London set.

I think your idea of what a planet is is wrong.

Most planets aren't earth. Tatooine hasn't got anywhere near a million people, or half that, or even a third. It has two to three cities and some outlying spots. Likewise Jedha was basically only that one city. Takodana had like one settlement outside Maz's cantina. Lothal also only has one real city.

Most planets are sparsely populated independent colonies. Even the ones like Ryloth, which has a native population with it's own cities, is arid at best and unlivable at worst outside safe zones.

The number of planets with populations in the range of billions is rare. Ones totally habitable outside of a few centers even moreso.

Additionally, Star Destroyers aren't exactly easy to handle. Most rebel groups will flee the whole system under the mere threat of one destroyer showing up. Because when one of those shows up you get at least 72 TIE fighters and almost ten thousand storm troopers to fight. Then you have to deal with the idea that it'll have corvette scale escorts, if not light cruisers, or assault carriers.

A single destroyer on patrol can match any rebel group on hit and run unless they have either a full Mon Cal Cruiser or multiple Nebulon B's, or equivalent craft, and even then odds are it can come out on top. If it's the flagship of a battlegroup of it's own, forget it, any rebel group is essentially dead before the shooting begins.

When a Star Destroyer is destroyed, or even just disabled, it's usually either by phenomenal luck or by rebels expending resources they otherwise could not afford to lose. Cham Syndulla went through literal hundreds of fighters bringing one down, and while losing a Hammerhead and some Y wings seems like a fair trade for two of them, the rebel fleet simply does not have enough ships to spare to even try a trick like that twice.

The bigger issue is why step in now, with 3 weeks left in production? Didn't they approve the script? Didn't they watch dailies? Or at least have Kennedy check in on a weekly basis?

In all honesty, Lord & Miller have built a career on making films that sound awful on paper but end up being great. 21 Jump Street looks like the shittiest fucking movie if you just read the cast and the synopsis on wikipedia, but it ended up being the funniest mainstream comedy of the past 10 years. Speaking as a filmmaker, even an amateur, one of the things I hate, and I mean HATE, is when someone on high doesn't just let me do my job, whatever it is. Usually this is me getting pissed at a hack director when I get something done and they fuck it up but I can see how it'd transfer here.

Lucasfilm hired them to direct. That is to say, to pick a direction and make sure everything runs in that direction. The actors, the set dressing, everything comes back to calls they have to make, even if there are specialists working under them(...and under THEM, and probably under those people, in a production this size).

The president of the company has no business doing the directors job. If there's a larger issue even then it should be resolved through the story group and if it was this bad it'd have been their job to bring it up. If there's one thing that pisses me off, it's when everything is signed off on and working fine, then some idiot decides at the last minute they want to make changes.

>>93352720

On a film like this they'd have gone through multiple script drafts, storyboards, previz, and done some test shots. Star Wars films in particular make a big deal about how tight they keep preproduction. If ANY part of the film wasn't working, that discussion probably took place before the first camera began rolling, and probably months before.

Apparently the issue was that they kept pushing for improvisation over sticking to the actual script, so it sounds like everyone was on the same page until cameras rolled, then Lord and Miller started encouraging more ad-libbing than Kasdan was comfortable with.

Though honestly I think there's more to this than we're hearing because it's really weird for them to have waited this long to fire them over creative differences.

They didn't write the script (Lawrence Kasdan and his son wrote it together) so I don't think he'd have been absurdly out of character because of them.

Maybe they tried to play it as a buddy cop movie but buddy criminals instead with Lando and Han? If they were going for something lighthearted maybe it was that, but I doubt they'd have changed the films genre and story completely without rewriting the script.

>>93352751

I get the feeling they get pidgeonholed because they do a lot of comedy and are known for it, but there's enough range of emotions I think they can get the job done.

Which is the thing, any idea that they'd just do quips is a meme since that isn't really the kind of humor the Jump Street films were based on, since those were very much based on personality and plot rather than just having some wisecracking sidekick give one liners.

>>93352911

Usually I'm super anal about sticking to "the plan" in regards to scripts, layouts, and the like, but I'm going to have to side with Lord and Miller on this one. Star Wars films have famously clunky dialogue and Fisher had to basically rewrite huge chunks of what she worked with until it was unrecognizable. You can be anal on where to put the camera, your color palette, and overall actions for the sake of shot continuity, but at the end of the day when you want to catch human interaction and make it feel genuine sometimes you need to ad lib a bit.

Which is the thing. People act like everything is George's fault but a lot of the problems, and the ways they got solved, in the OT are due to the people around him. In fact, one of the big problems I think there was with the Prequels was that George didn't know when to let go and let people do their damn jobs.

Even if you don't want them making big calls and doing every little thing and want to keep it corporate, a directors job first and foremost is to direct actors. It's what they do. If you're disputing that this late, then it's you who fucked up.

>>
>>93353384
Lucas is good when it comes to story and creating characters, locations, etc.
Kasdan is good when it comes to developing characters, maintaining story structure, and dialogue.

The two of them, along with 3 actors who were able to improvise dialogue and discuss their characters with them, made magic. Kershner's masterful directing only enforces that. You can watch ESB on mute and still understand what's happening because Kershner knows how to tell a story visually, with blocking and framing giving you the information conveyed in the scene.

>>
>>93353521

Yeah, but everyone who worked on the OT contributed in a way to make it clear that even though he had an idea in his head, a lot of it was executed by others and he was willing to take a good idea when he saw it. Recently Ben Burtt has been going around pointing out how similar the Dogfighting in ANH is to the dogfighting movies he was making as a teenager, and he has the video to directly compare how the cinematography matches up to prove it, and he was "only" a sound guy.

It's not a question of if George CAN do something. Obviously he has a whole lot of skills and by the time it ever became a question he had experience enough to back it up. It's a question of if he's willing to both take suggestions and let other people do their jobs when the time comes.

I see him as being kind of like Walt Disney. The man has the skills and built his company on them, but that company is built on people who can do those individual jobs and others as well or better. He absolutely shouldn't be handling those jobs himself, much less solo.

As someone who actually creates art, I'll dispute this. There's a certain point at which you can't go back and tweak your work. You have to be satisfied to release it into the world and let people react to it as they will. You have to be willing to present it to the world and then wash your hands of it, so to speak.

I can see special editions and directors cuts, but Lucas is a fucking madman and crossed that line forever ago when he decided entirely new shots and sequences needed to be made from scratch.

I can get some work being done in post. A lot of the color work in A New Hope is lacking and the sabers changed in every movie since so updating them is a good idea. Nub Yub being replaced is probably for the best. There are a few small changes I'll get behind. But the man has a fucking obsession.

Why is Pablo seen as THE guy when it comes to canon? Wasn't Leeland watching over it all on his own before the LSG was created?
>>
>>93355066
Leland was the guy watching over it, but a lot of the EU's inconsistencies happened under his watch which is why they decided to have an entire group.

As for being THE guy, Pablo's the one with the greatest amount of SW knowledge (Leland's up there too but he relied more on the holocron database he created rather than knowing stuff off the top of his head) and the most active one on Twitter and through interviews so he's kind of the de facto spokesperson for the group.

Leland "watched over canon".

Which is, to say, he didn't really. He certainly cataloged everything so it could be used if needed, but he was about as hands-on as deadbeat parents. Leland was afraid to say "no this isn't canon" or "no, this can't be canon". That's why the tiers existed, because it let him continue to lazily manage things and not ever have a strong stance regarding something. It's because of him and his laziness that there was a Dooku clone because he couldn't just say "no, this GBA game obviously isn't meant to be canon".

And ironically he ended up making the tier system completely pointless because even though in theory a higher-tier source would trump a lower-tier source, Chee hated discounting anything so he tried to make it so that both sources could be true. That gave us weird shit like Greedo being two separate people or a character whose sole purpose is to be a career Boba Fett impersonator just to explain Boba's various various contradictory appearances.

In short Leland a shit.

I think being afraid of saying "nothing but what Lucas does is canon really" is worthy of being freed from ridicule. >I think being afraid of saying "nothing but what Lucas does is canon really" is worthy of being freed from ridicule
He wasn't afraid to say that, he just didn't believe that at all. He was biased towards Film+Eu continuity, but acknowledged that there was also just Film-only continuity.

https://web.archive.org/web/20070227204935/http://forums.starwars.com:80/thread.jspa?threadID=152583&start=1050

>A follow up question - of the two official continuities (the films alone continuity and the films + EU continuity), is one more 'official' than the other; which is the 'true' Star Wars universe?

>You're asking the Keeper of the Holocron, so of course I'm gonna be a bit biased. The "film purists" aren't the types to be hanging out on the boards so it's unlikely you'll hear much official rebuttal around these parts. With that said, the reality is that a huge number of people who have seen all 6 Star Wars films have never played a Star Wars game, visited a Star Wars website, watched a Star Wars television program, read a Star Wars publication, or purchased a Star Wars action figure or collectible. It would be great disservice to discount these people as fans.

The reshots during R1 supposedly happened because LFL liked what Edwards was doing and decided to shit money on him tripling the number of vfx.

This is the opposite, they are doing such a bad job they fired directors in the middle of shooting. Fucking directors! In the middle of shooting!

The Special Editions were a mistake. You can't say you live Star Wars and then turn around and say it needs to be changed. George Lucas made the SE because he was never happy with it, but the fans were. He shit on his fans to perfect his vision, problem was, his vision kind of sucked.
>>
>>93358732

*love
>>
When the biggest compliment you can give the Special Editions is, the changes didn't ruin anything, it's time to admit they were a mistake.

I mean, what were the positive changes?

When the Falcon escapes from Mos Eisley, that shot is good.

Ian McDiarmid in TESB, although it dicks with the pacing of that scene which was perfect before IMHO.

Anything else?
>>
>>93358732
You are dead wrong I am afraid, the vast majority of the changes improve the film, either visually, or the continuity.

People only cherrypick the more noticeable stuff they don't like, but that's shitty.

Look at Bespin, the Wampa, Victory Celebration, the visuals of the ANH Trench Fight, the Emperor and Boba continuity, ect.

Lucas had every right to bring his movies to modern standards, and I as a Star Wars fan can look at those changes and should not be blinded enough that I can't see how most-if-not-all of them make sense and improve the movies the way Lucas wanted. The internet has a rabbid groupthink against Lucas changing his movies, but nobody can really say anything against them besides "hurr Han shot first" and "hurr I don't like Jedi Rocks"

I've loved Star Wars all my life, and I can say with confidence that the Blu Rays Lucas ended with are still my favorite way to watch the movies.

>>93358810
Better visuals across the board, visuals are more vibrant and in line with the worlds Lucas was trying to portray (Tatooine, Bespin, everything during the Victory Celebration)

Speaking of Victory Celebration, that was changed to become an emotionally compelling tug at the heartstrings, and the perfect end to the saga.
>>
>>93358732
I'll have to respectfully disagree. Some of the changes are good (extended ANH dogfight new ROTJ end music. come at me!) some are bad (big lumpy Jabba scene in ANH), whilst most are inoffensive (cleaned-up sfx in the Hoth battle. Blinking Ewoks.).
I'm not saying there aren't major problems with it, but this idea that SE was an entirely cancerous mistake seems too extreme for me.
Wordsworth was an inveterate reviser of his poems, and Lucas is an inveterate reviser of his films. It's all part of the rich tapestry.
>>
>>93358875
>big lumpy Jabba scene in ANH
This isn't even a bad scene. In fact, unironically, I think it's some of the best Han dialogue in the entire series, and that alone justifies its inclusion.

It's not about it being "unnecessary" because of the Greedo scene, or "REEE SEE GEE EYE", it's just a damn fun scene where we get more Han character building.
>>
>>93358907
I agree that seeing Han being a cocky badass bluffing his way through the crime underworld is fun, but I think the problems with this scene reside more with what it does to Jabba.
He seems pretty ineffectual, personally calling on some low-level smuggler and comong away empty-handed. And Han even walks on his tail and Jabba just takes it like a bitch. Kinda undercuts the sinister, powerful crimelord feeling a bit.

>The internet has a rabbid groupthink against Lucas changing his movies, but nobody can really say anything against them besides "hurr Han shot first" and "hurr I don't like Jedi Rocks"

Umm, how's about the fact that the updated effects of Star Wars stand in STARK contrast with the effects that weren't updated. How about the fact that the newly enhanced "bustling" Mos Eisley scenes do not mesh at all with the small western town feel of the original. Yeah, that may have been George's original intent, but he didn't film it that way and now CGI shots do not match shots from the seventies.

How about the fact that George went to great lengths to make Tatooine have a soft focus like a fairy tale to juxtapose against the harsh edges of the Death Star. Even against the advice of his cameraman, Gil Taylor, George put mesh over the lenses while in Tunisia to soften the sand scenes even more than sand scenes usually appear on film anyway, only to go back in the 2000's and digitally sharpen the Tatooine scenes so that they match the PT. This wasn't a mistake, it was something the Lucas of the 70's did purposely.

And it looks terrible. I've seen the Blurays. The best example is when Luke 8s first introduced and walks from the homestead entrance to the sandcrawler. Luke is presented sharply and the background is presented sharply, but the area just around Luke is soft because of the motion blur. It looks like he has a blurry bubble around him. So does Threepio in the desert shots.

And this is just Star Wars.

>The reshots during R1 supposedly happened because

Because they changed the third act around. The empire archives where Jyn gets the plans and the transmission tower where Jyn emails the plans were originally different places. They were condensed into one location which necessitated several changes.

Jyn and Cassian no longer had to make a suicide run outside, Jyn and Krennec have a confrontation on the top of the tower, not in the shallows.

And that fucking tie fighter hovering near the transmitter bridge was made for the trailer.
>>
>>93358875

If you take something that people loved for decades, make a few good changes and then shit up the rest, that is a mistake.

Lucas apparently never heard the phrase, If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Is that Sloane and Hux?

Did she /ss/ him?
>>
>>93359348
Why did reshoots get such a negative connotation?

Every prequel film had reshoots. ROTS had extensive reshoots just like R1.

I never understood why anyone was worried.
>>
>>93359446
Honestly, most movies have reshoots.

It's just normies think with Star Wars that they know it all, so they pretend like news of reshoots is an unusual thing.

That being said, whats happening over at the Han Solo movie IS unusual.
>>
>>93359409
Yep, inspired by the end of Empire's End in which Sloane is stuck on a ship with basically a classroom of children refugees from Jakku.

She avoids them all, except for making a small friendship with Hux. Mostly so that he would make sure none of the other kids killed her in her sleep.
>>
>>93359532
>That being said, whats happening over at the Han Solo movie IS unusual.

Agreed. I honestly wonder of Lucasfilm pushed for a different movie the entire time and they finally just got fed up with it walked off.

Imagine going through a scripting process, preproduction work, story meetings, and then you start filming only for the studio to come in and say, "Hey, you know everything we agreed to, we changed our minds." And then they are up your ass during the entire shoot. I'd walk away too.

Now, I have no proof if that is what happened, but if it is what happened, I understand them saying FUCK IT.
>>
>>93359630
Well if the rumors (pre-news of the directors dropping out) are true, then what happened is Kathleen took a look at what they had come up with the movie so far, and saw very weak action and an overabundance of comedy. She asked them to reshoot to rebalance it, and after "creative differences", she must have told them to fix their shit, or leave.

And they left
