I never really found Blackface super offensive. Maybe it's because I never really saw it and thought "oh, they're making fun of me"

And even then I don't really think features like incredibly dark skin or big lips are really offensive unless you're saying "look at how silly this guy looks"

The more interesting thing is that some cartoon directors kept doing blackface gags after they were mostly considered in bad taste in pop culture, blackface had been considered old-fashioned since Vaudeville died and almost nobody was doing them in the '50s because racism had become unfashionable. But there are still a few of them that get in there before they completely die out. The last one I know of is from 1953 and even there Bugs's blackface is way toned down from what it would have been in the '40s.

Also there's the "stereotype lag," how black stereotypes were politically incorrect by the 50s but Asian stereotypes held on for a while longer (Breakfast at Tiffany's).

The boondocks was the best cartoon at racial humor if your're black you'll like because it shows popular black stuff, if your're a smart black or any smart person you'll see it's mocking black culture
