I don't understand people trying to compare Elsa and Anna and their codependency with normal siblings.

They're both emotionally fucked up. Elsa's been in isolation because she thought she'd kill anyone she touches from ages 8-21. Anna's been shut in the castle for reasons she can't understand. Both are extremely starved for attention, affection and social interaction. 3 years (18-21 and 15-18) of extreme loneliness, with the parents gone and no other close connections available.

Neither has any fucking friends or family members alive in the world aside from each other - and Kristoff. On top of that, Elsa's wrecked with guilt, because she almost killed Anna when she was a kid and then actually killed her the next time they interacted while Anna knew of her powers. She has no-one else in the world, no friends, no family, no acquaintances, Anna's the only close social contact she has, and she killed her. The guilt must be unbearable. Even a year later, when she's trying obsessively to arrange for the best birthday ever in order to apologise for having fucked everything up including their childhoods by being a freak of nature, the first cake topper she creates to symbolise what Anna means to her is her weeping over Anna's lifeless body, because that's what's subconsciously still weighing on her.

Elsa's so traumatized it's crazy. Then people go like "hurr I don't see siblings look at each other like that irl". Sure you don't , because normally siblings have other friends outside immediate family, haven't been raised in isolation and don't carry a load of guilt for having killed the other sibling.
