In Samurai Jack's setting, there are dinstinct and actual afterlives.

By doing the ending they did, they made it so Jack wiped out an entire timeline of people, both dead in the afterlife and alive under Akus wrath, and replaced or just flat out deleted them.

And he shows no remorse for any of them except the one he was going to be banging.

Either way I think it's going to be about average.

Like the previous comic series they can just do one-shot stories.
I expect quasi-world building, but no real tying together of any of what's explored or significant fleshing out about the theme.

Listen, in any kind of time travel or quantum situation, you would be crazy to care more about the place you're in than your own timeline. That's your home, your family, your identity, your everything.

There were a lot of likable characters in Aku's dark timeline, but that stuff amounts to a "What If?" scenario that of course is incorrect to the protagonist. Jack threw away countless chances to go home to make someone's life temporarily better, and what did that get him in the end? Just more delays and more suffering.

And where are you drawing the line, here? When Jack went home, you saw all the people that came to celebrate. Do their lives not matter? There are a lot of existential questions to unwrap in that kind of discussion, but calling Jack a mass murderer isn't really helpful.

The thing about certain audience members is they either want relatability or cannot process anything that isn't relatable.
It's why superheroes and sci-fi are sometimes seen as a puzzling or pointless to those who haven't developed a health imagination and disconnect between their entertainment and their life. They can't get immersed in a story that doesn't reflect or tie back to them and "the real world" somehow.

Because no one can travel back and fix their mistakes, that we know of a lot of writers follow one of two conventions with time travel stories. The Time Machine where the protagonist accepts the perpetually forward flow of time and his place in the strangeness of the ever changing future, much like most people do or are made to, or something along the lines of it all being inconsequential due to a Self-perpetuating Paradox.
These two types of stories either proliferated because of their ease of justifying their conclusion or because the viewers digest them easier. Either way it's a futile endeavor to try to undo years of real and fictional conditioning about, well, futility.

It's all fiction, yes, but through the discussion you're inadvertently asking someone who has resolved to put their past behind a locked door to humor the concept of opening it. Admittedly there is some psychologically healthy aspects for knowing to move on and learn and grow and bla bla instead of dwell so I get where some come from, or present their argument at least, but it's not healthy to obsess over that mantra of It Can't Be Helped being the default "right" thing or moral message when a setting provides alternatives.

Take Trunks' example, if before he knew of multiverse theory he'd resolved to just stay put because the Past is the Past then he'd neglect sparing countless other realities a chance to avoid needless death and suffering. What ethical good is achieved then?

So I should add there were some anons who reasonably said it was less just the time travel that bothered them and more the lack of conclusion, and having Scotsman or someone acknowledge their sacrifice and Jack's efforts to Aku, scoffing at his attempt at fearmongering would have helped better convey the unconventional message in this particular context
There's a time and place for everything, for all the talk people staunchly against time travel have about it not helping progressing thinking I think sticking to our rigid way of thinking today will not help us progress outside the limitations of our current situation, in art or science. And that's the real moral lapse.

It reminds me how I was watching a video on Science Taboos from SciShow, and learned there were some things we just did not do because we all just agreed not to do them. There was no reason or sense to it, everyone just played follow the leader. One of the most absurd ones is that Doctors once refused to disinfect their hands because as people whose practice was saving lives, the idea they might have and be taking them accidentally was insulting. So they told the guy who suggested to at least check to go fuck himself. They CHOSE to lose more lives than lose face.

Years later they learned he was right and everyone just quietly sweeps it under the rug.
