Let's set up the scene. It's 2011. DC just announced the New52 (which reset the status quo in a unique way). Of the many titles there was Action Comics (penned by Grant Morrison) and Superman (written by George Perez).
While the series can't be faulted on giving you "bang for your buck" in terms of content on page requiring more than your standard 10 ish minutes (guestimating here).
I'll leave it to you all to form your own opinions. Hope you enjoy
Glad to see a familiar landmark.
=O
Tell more new 52 history
And post less cover swap variants those are the dumbest shit
All in all, the Superbro suit grew on me and I'll kinda miss it. Current suit is cool but I'd prefer a suit of "extremes" (new52 armor or full trunks).
New52 Clark was such a prima donna starting out.
I'd almost say there's more narration than Lobdell
I can't tell if Perez is purposely trying to write this story like one from decades ago with tons of exposition but that's what it is reading like.
Welp, looks like Morgan Edge is a cunt. Big surprise.
SHUT THE FUCK DOWN!
And to everyone, thanks for reading!
If someone could bump it'd be super appreciated. If not, I totally get it.
Did Rebirth deboot the WildStorm element from the main continuity.

no, the Middy mini was canon
Put your name back on, Prof.
>>93328662
Didn't start the thread with it on and I already qued up all the pages.

That dumb bitch Pandora in the right of the middle spread.

Agreed, I actually liked the design back when it first came out, and don't really know if Supes has ever really had a bad design for his costume. T-Shirt Supes (both early Nu52 and de-powered) are GOAT though.
Before Rebirth, Superman's main title was a rotation of writers that all had their own takes on Clark and the rest of the characters that didn't always mesh. Perez is writing it like an old school comic. Jurgens is.....different. A departure from this style of writing but not necessarily a step up. And then we get to Lobdell who basically turns the title into DBZ with more crossovers than actual main-title issues (doesn't feel like an exxaggeration).
Then we have Johns that definitely brough back a level of charm to the book but his main storytline dragged on and on and on. Afterward we have new writer Gene Luen Yang that had never written a Superman story before and then shook up the game by exposing Clark's identity. Honestly, I felt like with every issue he became better and better and by the end was a riciulously fun title where Superman is a luchadore

Depowered Supes' t-shirt had a variation of the Fleisher symbol. I couldn't contian myself.

It really doesn't look like armor by that artist (or most of them really besides Rocafort & Jim Lee) it looks like thick leather which is a billion times better then cloth.

Here.
Here was where I abandoned this book for good. I have no regrets.
Perez lives pretty close to me, he comes to a shop nearby for FCBD every year. He's pretty chill, always make sure to say hi to him. I like his art better than his writing though.
>>93329770
I don't blame you in the slightest. It's obvious that Perez had a style he was deliberately going for but I'm not sure it would really connect with the average reader (or at least not connecting with me).

>I like his art better than his writing though.
Same, but I do have an appreciation for indivdiuals that can do both. Make me wonder how a Perez written and drawn book would have turned out.
Why is SUperman so edgy in this? First time reading new52 supes and it's kind of perturbing. It's off-putting to see the Man of Steel behaving like an impudent brat or a bipolar dork.
>>93329886IT ISN'T SUPERMAN!!!! But if you were talking about how he acted before this issue I agree with your description that he tended to be a bit moody.
And thus we start the last issue of Perez's short tenure. Not quite the grand finale everyone hoped for, but I still feel like it fit perfectly with what he had already brought to the table.
>>93330064I mean, yeah, I was talking about before...but was there an editorial reason?
>>93330212
Early New52 Supes had too many cooks in the kitchen with no one really establishing a foundation for who Clark is, with everyone instead making Clark behave the way they want him to in their respective book.
Initially you had Johns, Perez, and Morrison, and then Jurgens, Diggle, Lobdell, Daniels, Pak, Lang...you get the idea. It wasn't until near the end of his career that he finally started coming into his own but initially, I just think
Alright, this top panel made me laugh. I bet Luthor taped that for late night viewings. If anything I bet he has a "highlight reel" of Supes' biggest blunders and beatings.
........thanks Superman?
God damn this is brutal
>--And when asked about the remains of the alien, Superman replied:
>"They were thrown into the sun".
........is this a meme? I remember it being a running thing with The Sentry at Marvel, but did he rip it off from somehwere? Or was throwing shit into the sun one of SUpes' favorite strategies?
Stop creeping, Lois. Clark doesn't need you in his life.
I think I'm going to storytime Stormwatch tomorrow. I remember that being an interesting mesh of DC and Wildstorm characters. hopefully it will be better than I remember.
ANyways, I'm going to bed. See you kool kats tomorrow! And if the thread is still alive when I wake up in the morning, I'll continue on with the next author to take over.
>>93328104
Not really - this was pretty much just a little bit in the start of this arc and never seen since.
>>93328856
>in the right of the middle spread
I hadn't noticed it, and like so many things in the Superman threads by pretty much everyone who wrote something, it was promptly dropped and nothing ever came of it.
Lobdell is a pretty crappy writer generally, but in particular for Clark but at least he did pick up on Perez' Wildstorm inclusion in this arc in one of his runs (unless Lee or someone else forced that on him).
>>93329829
Didn't he do just that for Wonder Woman? For a while anyway, I know eventually another artist took over for him.
>>93329886
>>93329886
man, he is pretty cool, he is being attacked mostly in these issues, the same with morrison AC.
now rebirth superman is super violent when things doenst go his way.
>>93330959
>>93330959
Superbro's pretty much invulnerable, but is allowed to get edgy when "attacked".
Superdad on the other side: don't you dare get angry when your ten year old son is threatened.
Sure, that double standard makes sense
Besides they are the same guy now
>>93331267
no, he wasnt just being attacked, he was being tortured, and he was only a few years older than jon.
>>93331311
He was an adult, Jon isn't even a teen. Not my fault if you don't see the difference between those ages.
