I... I don't get it? I'm usually pretty smart, I mean, I have an engineering master's from MIT. I think that's pretty smart, even if I just test well. But what's going on here? Why does a cow need tools? How are those even considered to be tools?
>>

maybe it's meant to be some sort of riff on cow pies? the saw especially looks like it could be sculpted out of soft material, but it seems like a stretch

I remember in a compilation Gary described being really damn happy with how this one turned out. The first version had two people looking over and talking about the cat, but he realized that a complete lack of dialogue was the way to go. He was completely happy with the final version, never tempted to overwork it.
It's always nice to share in little moments of an artist's pride.

That's kinda the point, anon. when Larson made the comic, the "tools" weren't supposed to really be anything in particular. Unfortunately, he made the tool on the right look too much like a saw. This resulted in people endlessly trying to figure out what the other three tools were, under the assumption that their forms were indicative of function.

William Tell was famous for shotting a apple off a persons head, this implies one of his sons were less fortunate and died during another one of his apple shotting feats.
>>93299847
The Lone Ranger had a side kick who called him Kemosabe. It would be like Robin always calling Batman Asshat and then years later Bruce find the meaning on urbandictionary.com.
>>93300024
It is common to break personalities down into 4 types. This has been done many many times, even all the way back to "Four temperaments" or "Four Humors" tracing back to ancient Greeks and ancient Egyptian receptively. At some point later the glass half empty/full became a common binary test to see if a person was pessimistic or optimistic, which is often inaccurately attributed as personality type. This offers a newer interpretation that combines centuries of basic personality testing along with more modern response structures. The juxtaposition of so old ideas and such modern replies sill holding such relevance is to strike the reader as funny.
