How come Best Picture winners are usually indie films plebs don't give a damn about, but the Best Animated Feature Oscar almost always goes to a mainstream-studio CGI movie that makes hundreds of millions at the box office?

Because the academy doesn't give a shit about animation, even the actual voting is a joke.
People really shouldn't hold the Oscars to a high standard, it's just an industry award show where people vote for their friends and it's full of politics like sending "gifts" to voters.

How come Spotlight (a glorified Law & Order SVU ep that no one remembers anymore) wins over freaking MAD MAX, but Pixar beats the indie and foreign films just for being Pixar?
