He's a fun asshole
I liked his last book

Carnage was always good at serving his purpose, he was what should have been the final piece to the symbiote story, he served as the pure evil to Venom's morally ambiguous grey area and Spider-Mans pure good, he worked just fine and was entertaining in all of his initial appearances.

However, it is the "hip" thing on this board to not only hate everything 90s but also hate everything dark or "edgy", so Carnage has been universally hated by legitimate oldfags who hate all new characters and just this board for the aforementioned reasons, although ever since his AXIS story the newfags here realized he isn't "grimdark" so he gets a little more respect

Idk, I feel like Venom and Carnage are two very different characters all together regardless of the connected origins, even if they were completely separated in terms of their stories Cletus would be a guy Eddie would hate and vice versa, Eddie was a delusional guy who thought he was the hero, Cletus was a slasher movie villain in the vein of Freddy Kreuger. And as far as the Joker comparison goes, I feel like it's the opposite...modern interpretations of the Joker take more from Carnage than Carnage ever did from the Joker before him, Carnage was never interested in crime, flair, or anything the least bit cerebral, he just wants blood

I'm not exactly disagreeing, but I've yet to comprehend why some people think comics should ban all edgy or dumb characters and simply stay in some time capsule of the 50s or 60s, which is a view many hold.
It seems extremely disingenuous to me considering the majority of the people here were born in the fucking 90s and with very few exceptions certainly didn't grow up with such comics to be so nostalgic about them.

There kind of is, though I think this is just one of those things that stopped mattering a long time ago anyway and thus very irrelevant.

That being said, it kind of makes sense....Venom was meant to be a bigger badder brute Spider-Man couldn't take on, Cletus' whole thing is mainly using his symbiote to make weapons and blades and projectiles, he's not really a brawler. Also, Eddie is big and Cletus small

He hardly ever beat Venom back in the day, he either ran away or found a way to exploit the glaring weaknesses of fire and sound. Carnage wiped the floor with him too, he always needed to team up with others (Including Venom) to beat him

Carnage-man was to pure for this world

Say what you want about Carnage, but his design is 10/10. The red and black, the gravity defying veins of goop that protrude and wriggle about, the more slender and sleek form, and his weaponization of shapeshifting just makes him visually a great, off-putting and memorable character.

That's never been the case, otherwise Preacher and Punisher would mock to hell and back. It's when it's edge for edge sake that the board takes issue and rightly so because that means they are just basically exploiting teens and manchildren that need their hobby to be "mature". Also Carnage's purpose tied only to Venom's popularity
