The girl is actually a super cute tomboy which is a weakness of many. Also when she is grown up she is obviously shown as the most beautiful in the movie universe.

As to why fight for her is the same why multiple people fight for a better girl or guy IRL. It is usually a hard concept to understand here because most people here are submissive and would back up from any conflict but IRL most people would fight hard for stuff like love.
