there were 250+ submissions anon, it was really hard just to pare it down to the ones I put in

I'll probably do some write up the whole process. For example, I don't want people to think I ignored the written submissions (the next guy is heavily based on one), the visual submissions were what often immediately stood out to me just by nature of being a visual artist

Also hello everyone, I'll stick around for a bit while I do some writing

I have a lore question, if you don't mind. There are a set number of angels, yes? I have to ask, are there only 777 angels? I only ask because I have ksbd-5-86 open, and that's what the tale seems to imply.

Not that I know of. I'd think that if there is going to be a book 2 physical copy then it'd be released around the same time of year as the first one was.

And just as a side note, the pages announcing the taking of submissions are usually removed after the submissions are integrated in the comic, so you won't see them if you go back and read through it.

>>93261149
There are actually a set number (they don't reproduce, they don't die permanently) but it's not actually 777, there are 777 original shards of the white flame from which angels were hammered.

This means angels have 'family' of a sorts from the same shard, it was kind of a neat idea I had that will never ever get into the comic haha
>>
>>93261354
>:V
WHAT DOES IT MEAN
>it was kind of a neat idea I had that will never ever get into the comic haha
Thanks for the clarification
>>
>>93261354
Oh, interesting. Thank you for the answer! Is the reason it won't go into the comic now because Angels don't reproduce?

Second question: Devils have genders (usually), but can they reproduce? Or is the terms "grandfather" and "brother" honorific?
>>
>>93261228
Question.

If every god made a universe, what is YS-VOYA's universe like? inb4 it's ours

>book 2 this year in September
Hey, good to hear.

Huh, angels have 'families'... if it never gets into the comic proper then it could always be one of the stories you post under them.

I really like those stories. Looking forward to the next installment of Tales of the Silver Prince.

There's a whole lot of extensive world building I wish I could get into, but in actual fact, world building makes for very poor storytelling. I think I'll do another write up thing at some point, because it's been an interesting lesson to learn.
>>
>>93261401
Devils are birthed from the black flame. They are sometimes, maybe usually, adopted by other devils. That's where terms like uncle get mixed up with them.
>>
>>93261560
The goal is to build world through stories \o/

>>
>>93261560
Ah, alright. Thank you, anyway! I look forward to whenever that comes out.

Also, thank you for hanging out with us and answering our questions.

Is it wrong to assume that because they are chaotic and part of the black flame of YS that they are able to reproduce, then? Or is that something they can do if they make a devil's pact? (Again, it was described as a sort of "exchange").
>>
>>93261582
Makes sense, if that's the case. Thanks!
>>
>>93261610

I know technology in the multiverse exists and Jags collects fighter jets, but in Throne how high does technology get? There's neon signs, televisions, trains, and big old rifles, but is there a particular limit?

Also what is the most popular sitcom that Gog-Agog stars in?
>>
Where is the picture of the guy getting birds to write his essay when I need it, dammit!
>>
>>93261715
Well, from what we've seen of Throne, and from what we've read in the stories and texts beneath the comics there doesn't seem to be a limit. Hell, I remember there being mention of songs in "machine-code" or something along those lines in the Aesma and the Masters stories.

What're your biggest inspirations for the aesthetic and atmosphere in your comic and writing? I'm building a game and I really want to incorporate some of that same feel I get when I read your comic, but I can never pin down exactly how to describe what it is. It's so complex.

Do you have any works that really influenced you?

Considering older guns are allowed, the rules on technology must be extremely complex and asinine because technically a sharp stick is military technology. What metric are they using?

My Green may be out of the running, but at least it was a blast to doodle. It's rare that I end up enjoying art from start to finish. Hope at least one green makes it into the crew though.
>>
>>93261988
Based on what we've seen, I'd say anything that rapidly fires projectiles is off limits.
The gun witch used oozies, but that wasn't on Throne.

And also anything over a certain metric of kaboom per pound. They have black powder, but plastic is probably also off limits in Throne.

Who knows if there are laser guns in circulation on some of the conquest front lines.
>>

I'm certain it'll come up again in the next comic arc, which is the mandatory kung fu tournament arc

>>93261715
It gets pretty high, I imagine there are like laser rifles and robots out there and stuff, you don't see them all the time because people are hording the good stuff.

I always thought the division between fantasy and sci fi of certain types was a bit silly, as in some (many) cases they are essentially the same things, as far as setting window dressing goes

I'd seen one work with a (sometimes) similar aesthetic before finding KSBD, which has helped me in understanding it significantly. It's a series of flash games of the point-and-click named "Submachine".

Its lore is far more confusing than KSBD. At least until you realize there is no universal "canon", and you only need to worry about the part of plot that's directly in front of you.

Hey man, congrats on managing to cross the treshold of making this a full-time job of yours, you certainly deserve it and I'm happy as fuck for you! Too many times a good webcomic or a promising artist doesn't make it, so when they do its certainly worth being happy about.

Years ago back when KSBD was still a relatively new thing, my first really big "wow" moment reading it was the "wheres Waldo?" panel with Hell 71. Theres plenty of pretty looking webcomics out there but a lot of them forego these extradetailed environment porn pages entirely. Like I already thought the comic was ok because its obviously Moebius-inspired and I love franco-belgian sci-fi comics, but that was the first time I thought "Ok, this guy deserves a proper publisher.".

So, don't shy away on the detailed creature designs and environment porn, it is what makes your comic stand out as unique from many other top quality webcomics out there.

Oh yeah, definitely. Unless of course the publisher already knows environment porn is a big reason people read it in the first place, in which case you might get more leeway, or assistants. If you've ever read the manga BLAME!, thats another cult favorite series of books with a lot of emphasis on environments (coincidentally also influenced by Moebius and Bilal and also my favorite manga).

And then again industry standards change by geography, which is why trademark French comic style has pretty as fuck art with plenty of pretty environments with large hard-cover albums with a set amount of pages, legacy of Moebius and Bilal I bet. I could imagine KSBD being published in that environment, although what I heard from the creator of Perkeros/Sing No Evil, french publishers are extremely stingy about having that exact french format with the page size and page limit.

If you ever get the chance, you should try it out, then your comics would be on the shelves right next to Moebius albums on the 2nd most comic-crazy country in the world.

I see this one follows the Path of Thorns.
>>
>>93262994
There is a distinct difference between not sexualizing a character and having them be entirely non-sexual.
>>
>>93262977
Well I was mostly memeing but if you want to be serious I have to say I'm never on board with this kind of conservative, censorious worldview. It's fine for an artist to make the decision not to sexualize anything but I do not thing sexy things or sexualization, in and of itself, is any evil and I reject fully the notion it's always a bad thing. It's also fine for an artist to do that, and if it's a gender thing there are plenty of women artists and writers who make women sexy.

Look at like Kyoko Okazaki for example. Helter Skelter makes the extent to which characters are sexualized a critical point, and it'd be a far worse comic if it didn't. Or literally tons of euro artists who never to labour in an industry driven by the CCA. Or if we're talking Brandon Graham he puts plenty of fun + sexy characters in his comics.
>>
>>93263010
I feel like maybe we're using sexualize when we mean objectify here.
>>
>>93262966
I always listen to music or podcasts while drawing. The amount I listen to is pretty ridiculous.

For example, I've gone through the entire archive of This American Life. Recently I've been listening to the SuperBestFriendCast, the Adventure Zone.

I listen to a shit ton of music, mostly (maybe 100%) metal, right now I'm really into the Violent Sleep of Reason (meshuggah) but I also just discovered Pallbearer and Elder which are both extremely good shit.

lived the weaboo dream for 2 years in Kyushu where I worked as an Assistant Language Teacher in a Japanese suburb through JET

I worked about 40hrs a week and drew the comic on top of that. The stable job gave me the original leeway to start the comic. I think I drew stuff up to the drinking contest scene in Japan, which was about when I came back.

If you want a great comparison of how patreon has affected the comic, I think that scene is about 90 pages in, we are just coming up on like 270 pages right now with patreon running for a a year and a half

Unlike a lot of ALTs I actually got to teach English (was doing it for a year before I came to Japan). It was an overwhelmingly positive experience. Learned Japanese, got super drunk with a bunch of my co-workers on the regular, learned to enjoy the hell out of Japanese food (took a year and a half to teach myself how to make proper Japanese curry, it's fucking worth it).

The mountains of central Kyushu are still among the most beautiful places I've seen in my life.

2 pages a week is at the fast end for the few European comics I've looked at, a rough average might be 100 pages in 18 months.
An outlier example is M.Bablet's Shangri-la's 220 pages in two years, or 2.1 pages a week, pic related.
Bablet admits his anatomy is poor, while he prefers backgrounds, but the style still works.
>>93262743

I see that but also other sizes and lengths.
I think my Tintin is 15.7 by 22.3 (6 by 8.8 inches), but that's rather small compared to the 24 by 32 (9.5 by 12.5 in) Shangri-La hardcover from Ankama.

Getting a head start in case there's ever an angel-submission contest.

>“24 Might Obstructs Ruin, Decay, Evanescent, and Neglect, also known as Morden, the Smooth-Shelled, is a little-known angel that once served under Throne, who has since joined the fraternity of Thorn. Despite his new allegiance, however, he has refused to a change of regalia, and thus retains his old coat of arms from his days as a protector. It is said that he has never once retreated from his armor since his conception as an angel, supposedly as a way of upholding an oath to one he could not protect in days past.” (in reality it’s because his true form is a mess of plasma and organs, and because of his super OCD he hates being in it, as evidenced by his symmetrical armor and namesake)

Hey Abby-chan.

Any chance that with the printed volumes the page sizes could be made bigger? Ive got volume 1 and plan on getting the whole run to put on my shelf, but the only dissapointing thing with it is the pages are too small.

The comic is oozing background porn everywhere. Theres so much stuff going on like its a "Wheres Waldo?" book, but on the small comic book pages its kind of wasted. I think they are only like 6 or 7 inches wide, and so much cool detail is lost because everythings so small.
>>
>>93270265
Standard comic book size is only 7 inches wide actually! It kind of sucks. The comic is just as wide as a regular comic, it's just shorter on the top and bottom.

The reason it was printed small is the proportions are wrong. Standard size is 2 by 3 (11 by 17 at full size basically), where as mine is in magazine size (9x12 or 8.5x11) due to being on the web and personal idiocy. If I printed a standard comic there would be a huge margin of about an inch or more on the top or bottom, which sucks (I tried it out).

The next book, even though it will look weird, I am trying to get Image to print at the size it's drawn (9x12). The third book, the one I'm drawing now, is standard size (11 by 17). This might look like ass on a shelf, that's my only concern. But at least there'll be more space for the art.

The first book was also pretty dark (web >print often does this) and pretty short for a graphic novel (104 pages I think?). The next one will be probably around 144 pages or so and I'll have learned my lessons from the first print. The art is also way better in my opinion. It covers all the stuff from the drinking contest up until the end of Mottom's palace.

I hope if the book continues to sell well, I can convince Image to do some kind of collected edition giant oversize book for the series, probably 2 of them, that would collect books 1-3 and book 4-5

This comic has a very homestuck-like fanbase. There are def people who would find it less accessible if it had a lot of nudity and fucking.

I think Abaddon had left a lot of stuff people tend to fly off the hook about quite vague and open-ended but you can't do that if you decide to put it on the page. So far I haven't seen anyone go into a schizophrenic frenzy about K6BD except some anons here who have problems with women characters.

You might be right but I think this comic has a lot fewer sensitive autist type fan than other comics. I don't think there should be fucking but a little nudity is fine. The kids who would be uncomfortable by that stuff probably wouldn't mind too much if they're reading such a violent comic. People like that tend to like light and fluffy stuff.

That's true, there's plenty of gore and it's an unfortunate media thing that gore is often OK where sex and nudity aren't.
>>
I feel like the comic is perfect as is

why is everyone here trying to push so hard for more nudity

I mean I know why but I dont want you fucks fucking up a good thing with fucks

As long as it's tasteful, I'm fine with it. Abb seems to know what he's doing.

Abbadon has the final say on everything in his comic, and probably has an idea for the character that isn't identical to the designer's.

O hey Abby! Just wondering, did this get into the tumblr submission or did it fell of the wayside? I have this burning need to know what happened to ole Pips! Made it in time but since it didn't appear in Infinite Devil Engine (yet) I'm just been on edge about this.

There is still one slot left for mastermind.

Is Oscar going to actually be involved in the heist as well or was he just called by Cio because he knows who is good for the job and has the connections to get them?

Nope, everything I gave Abbadon was this picture >>93260862 so even the name "Cat Master" is something Abbadon made up himself. There's no secret collab process going on in the background or anything.

He should be part of the heist. Cio said that "if he wants in", he's gotta bring in 5 nastyboys. He's recruiting, but he should still be an active participant. Plus, he shows up on the cover, which indicates him as one of the major characters this chapter.
