Any fans of Jem? Cartoon, comics, whatever
>>93260758
Nope.
Yeah, I am. Jem is one of the best things to happen to comics this decade.
>>93260758
A few years ago it popped up on Netflix and I fucking loved it despite having no nostalgia for it.
I had no idea there were comics. I need to check this shit out.
>>93261767
Oh it was the most wonderful news when I found out about it!
>>93261874
The comics?
>>93262430
Oh yes, it has been so long!
>>93260758
Jem and the Holograms? Not much.
The Misfits? Legally change my name to Mark Stan for them.
>>93260758
Love the old show, don't much care for the comic.
>>93262508
Roxy is best girl
>>93260758
No, I'm more a pussycats kind of guy
>>93260758
Maybe the original show.
But not the movie or IDW's "Fat Dykes Illustrated"
>>93264484
How did you not get a heart-attack watching so many women on screen in the cartoon?
I didn't read the latest issue but my friend told me what happens at the end of it and I'm pissed off
>>93260758
I couldn't get over how that one Misfit kept changing race and body shape every issue. It was also too self-inserty and gay. At least the art was nice.
>>93260758
HELL YEAH, I LOVE JEM!
Haven't really checked out the comic, slowly watching the entire show again. Occasionally think about how I'd do a continuation of the show, set in the present day (though it would only technically be 15-20 years in the future, as far as the characters were concerned).
>>93267536
>I couldn't get over how that one Misfit kept changing race and body shape every issue.
What on Earth are you talking about?
I mean it's a neat idea but it never happened in the comic!
>>93267588
I'm not sure it work work if it were set in any other era but the 80's.
>>93267536
Which one? They made one fat, one black and lots of other characters were ambiguously brown.
>>93268445
Just make an alternate universe where the present is a lot more like the 80s, it's not like the series wasn't an exaggerated depiction of the 80s anyway
Heck, if it were really about the music scene in the 80s they all would have been hanging out in sleazy clubs on the Sunset Strip and addicted to heroin and cocaine
>>93268828
They couldn't glamorize drug use in a children's show so instead, they were time-traveling and meeting Bigfoot. Season 2 got weird.
>>93268445
Jem wasn't nostalgic about the eighties as it was made DURING the eighties. It was blatantly copying contemporary trends
That's why the comic is modern. Jem should always reflect its generation.
>>93268473
>>93268324
This one. She's off-model in the early issue, changing from White to Asian, thicc to sticc, feminine to ultra-butch, etc.
>>93270203
Stop being silly.
>>93269451
Even the comic retains a bit of the 80s charm. It's slightly modernized but it's not like there are any glam rock bands topping the charts or even being notable in the "current year", and be thankful for that. If they really went full modernization it would be about a bunch of white rappers.
>>93260758
I've never read the comics but I'd hammer this Jem into the ground with my dick given the opportunity.
>>93271607
it's not like there are any glam rock bands >topping the charts or even being notable in the "current year", and be thankful for that
Excuse you, I wish glam rock was a thing right now
Or just female rock bands
>>93260758
Now that the comic is done because the writer wanted to end it, you guys think they make a new comic set in the Hasbroverse?
Like Jem already had plots with sci fi shit and murder plots and other out there stuff while still being dramatic so I would be up for it.
>>93272221
>Excuse you, I wish glam rock was a thing right now
I was saying be thankful that he modern Jem still retains part of the 80s aesthetic, rather than actually trying to paint a picture of the modern music scene
Also glam is still a thing, it just is a very niche thing that you have to seek out and is not popular especially not in the US outside of the nostalgia circuit
>>93272404
Now this is great to know, thanks for that!
>>93272346
You keep an eye out for the new comic book releases this month.
Keep an eye out.
>>93272474
Oh? What's gonna happen?
>>93272453
Yep, although none of the music in Jem by any of the groups could really qualify as "rock", it was all excellent
Also, I feel like the movie EQG Rainbow Rocks is about the closest thing to what I feel like a modern Jem series should be like
>>93274861
For that to be Jem caliber it would need to properly develop Sunset Shimmer. Fucking Hasbro has mandated themselves the most complex character in MLP history and it's like they never noticed it. Jem's character work is leagues above MLP.
I mean the FiM characters are wonderful but it just goes to show you how amazing Jem is.
>>93275262
>Jem's character work is leagues above MLP.
Eh I don't know about that exactly, while Jem is largely underrated I don't know if I could say that personally. It was certainly great especially for it's time at paying attention to characters but it still never entirely fleshed them out to MLP levels IMO
In any case, I was more talking just the style, Rainbow Rocks kind of merged a lighthearted yet extremely melodramatic storyline with musical sequences and incorporated music into the plot in such a way that I feel like it was kind of a shame they didn't make a Jem movie like that
>>93261683
I keep hearing that the comic is good. Can you tell me something about it to someone who has no idea what Gem even is?
>>93279055
>Gem
>>93279323
I did say I know nothing about it.
Read a few comics here and there, and only seen Jiz.
I'm a fan of both.
>>93286635
>have the box set of the show
>pulling all the comics from day 1
Same.
>>93286858
Who is your favorite, just for the sake of conversation
>>93276761
Oh come on, don't tell me you think any of the ponies is as developed a character in all their subtleties as Pizzazz, Stormer or even Jerrica. And just the G1 versions at that!
I have huge doubts that Hasbro can reach those heights today.
>>93288816
>Oh come on, don't tell me you think any of the ponies is as developed a character in all their subtleties as Pizzazz, Stormer or even Jerrica
I do, mainly because they have had greater story arcs to complete. Compare S1 Twilight who was a NEET bitter nerd to current Twilight who is the so called "princess of friendship", it's nothing against Jem it just seems to me MLP had more of an agenda to have characters reach goals and benchmarks
>>93289309
That's just things happenning to a character. It doesn't layer Twilight's personality, Twilight isn't as detailed a person.

You're welcome.
>>93289870
Oh god, this is the first thing I watched after finishing the cartoon, it's brilliant!
>>93290056
I know, right!
I like the fat one from The Misfits in the idw comic
>>93260758
the creator of Jem and Holograms insists Kimber and Stormer aren't gay.
I am inclined to believe this
SJWs don't think women can ever be friends or have sisterly love for each other, they have to be gay lovers.
>>93290243
>SJWs
there it is
>>93263296
Pfft. She can't even read.
>>93290137
Oh christ I hope to god IDW doesn't fuck everything up.
>>93290507
IDW's Jem comic isn't part of their shared Hasbro universe
>>93290506
All part of her appeal
One might say, universal appeal
>>93290243
>the creator of Jem and Holograms insists Kimber and Stormer aren't gay.
At most I'd make Stormer a bit gay. Kimber just loves cock WAY TOO MUCH to be gay. I mean, she NEEDS IT.
>>93290543
And it better stay that way is all i'm sayin'.
>>93290726
She could be bisexual, or heterosexual but homoromantic.
>>93291191
I want Jem to meet a very specific group of Transformers.
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Knights_of_Unicron_(band)
>>93290726
>>93291244
nah, they are both straight
