Yeah, but Disney's been on a kick about redeemable villains and giving old villains sad backstories.

I mean, LeFou in the original movie was just as hostile as Gaston. Hell, he was the first one to laugh at Belle and call her father crazy. But that got wiped away.

Even a twist where the fairy turns Gaston into a beast himself and gives him the same curse himself at the end would've been something rather than the karma bricks killing him off once again.
