Admittedly have not seen it; but from word-of-mouth it was not super great; weighted down but use of out-of-date pop songs.
Maybe they will take the criticism into account on the second one. Could be an instance of the squeal being better then the first!

I'm neutral on this.

Visuals were undeniably great but overall the first was a very mediocre film.

Poster looks interesting though

Great, Maria Sue is front & center on the poster. She's probably the protagonist now...

Sweet. I liked the first one a lot, despite its flaws. Thought it was fun, with great designs.

Hopefully they can fix the problems the first one had and have a stronger movie.

I think there's potential if they take some of the critique of the first film to heart.

More original songs and less Radiohead covers. Give the female lead a bit more personality. Give the twins more screen-time. Etc.

That's the plan. First movie about Manolo, sequel about Maria, and third one about Juaquin.

The pop songs weren't the problem. The story was being told to kids who probably imagined that particular soundtrack for fun.

The problem was the plot was by-the-numbers and Maria was a mistake.

The film's best assets outside of the visuals were Joaquin and La Muerte/Xibalba. We need more of that.

Interesting. I liked the Book of Life even if the story was a bit predictable, hope this one isn't formulaic. So much potential.
