Why would Captain America abandon his motorcycle road trip to rediscover America so that he could join SHIELD, a spy agency that lied to him, hoarded Hydra weaponry and almost got NYC destroyed?

While I'm glad he did since he ended up saving the World from HYDRA it really didn't make sense considering the events of Avengers 1. Why would MCU cap want to be a PUBLIC superhero anyway? Wouldn't he rather have civilian ID on the side so he can relax once in a while?

Cap had no friends and nothing but a government pension. He was kind of an artist but he didn't really get along with Tony so he couldn't hang around Avengers tower.

The only living person that gave a shit about him got over her love for him decades ago and had dementia.

For a guy that needs to fight so he can sleep at night, hooking up with Fury, the guy who bet everything on the Avengers and saving civilians lives, made sense.
