It's a moot point. They only made the show because they were making the game. Without the game, the show would never have been made, so it's still a cartoon based on the game.

Yeah, they were developed in tandem.
A lot of the early plots are even explicitly based on mechanics from the game, like planting a gem tree to find a chewnicorn.

game was originally being developed for the n64 and kept being moved up a generation.

The aesthetics even kinda match n64 games a lot more than other 360 games.
