I know the image that the person in OP's pic is alluding to and it's not a completely invalid point per se; I'd love to see characters with dramatically different builds. There's loads of different forms of athletic excellence; think of how cool it would be if all of the women on the Avengers and X-Men, for instance, had builds as diverse as that which we see in this lineup and artists had the discipline to keep them consistent so that you could feasibly tell them apart just from their silhouettes.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a female hero like Cheryl Howorth here, who - like the Kingpin - is just super bulked-up for maximum raw power at the expense of aesthetics. This said, I don't think that by any reasonable medical standard even she would count as 'obese' per se since obviously most of her bulk is muscle rather than fat, and pretending that the sort of body which is being discussed here - one prone to exhaustion due to poor personal habits - really lends itself to the sort of strenuous life of action and adventure.

He isn't wrong. Not every body is going to look like a porn star with fake tits or a skinny super model. Even people without a lot of excess fat. Some girls just have natural small tits. Some have big ass hips even when skinny.

Also I would like some ugly heroes. One consistently ugly, unlike Wolverine who was supposed to be short ugly and smelly and then often forgotten. And not 'Muh power made me ugly or the bad art did".

Also we should be encouraging more body types for females in super movies. Like actually muscular instead of skinny supermodels. I would prefer a Wonder Women who actually looks powerful.

I don't go to cbr, /r/comicbooks and the DC and Marvel subreddits for those reasons, people have the shittiest opinions.

Fuck I decided to check one of the marvel subreddits right now and this is from a conversation regarding MvCI

>In 90s X-Men were more popular so they got to be in these games now MCU characters are more popular its no rocket science

>Yup people don't get that the MCU characters ARE Marvel to most people now.

>funny how not a single x-men movie has ever crossed 800m worldwide when they were so popular in cartoons and video games in 90s in comparison to Iron Man or Captain America

>This is what I tell people on here when they say how characters like Gamora get in over people like cyclops.People need to stop living in the 90s.

>Spider-man is in the game, they have just replaced guardians characters with X-men and all those were in Marvel vs capcom 3 and it still wasn't a huge success.

>Honestly, I would love a Marvel-only fighting game, and I think the MCU roster is big enough now to make an MCU-only fighting game that could be pretty rad.

>The inclusion of more and more characters popular in the MCU lead me to believe that this game is being treated more and more like an advertisement for Marvel Studios' characters, which I am all for.

barf!

I mean /co/ isn't perfect but it doesn't aggravate me like cbr and reddit do and it's certainly not as circlejerky.

Kids reading comics definitely shouldn't be influenced by obese heroes who can be healthy despite being obese just because they've got superpowers. But then again that never stopped them from showing Wolverine boozing and smoking with no ill effects thanks to his powers...

But heroes most definitely should have more varied body-sizes and shapes and the editors should do their job and actually make the artists stick with them. They can't even consistently draw Wolverine as a short guy for fuck's sake. Why? Because it makes the visual-based storytelling better, not because of representation.

Always bugs the shit out of me when Spider-Man has the same physique as Iron Man, for instance. Even if we assume that Iron Man works out like a madman for no real reason then he still shouldn't have the same body-shape and size as the dude who's agile as fuck and has the proportional strength of a spider, meaning he doesn't need huge muscles to lift heavy shit.

At the highest end of weightlifting, your body basically becomes a sphere of muscle, losing all definition and shape as your massive bulk of muscles just push out in every direction at once. It's not pretty, but it IS strong. And of course, in order to put on that much mass, you have to eat a LOT of protein to feed your muscles, and that's not going to look great on you either. People in this sport pay a brutal price for their athletics.

Because you've been raised with a set of aesthetic standards which glorifies specific traits which they lack. Culture is a funny thing that way. Chinese foot binding is a grotesque ritual which produces monstrous results, but for generations it was considered beautiful and because people were raised to see it as such. For a long while, Japense women dyed their teeth black because THAT was considered attractive. For centuries in Europe, "Rubinesque" women of portly proportions were seen as attractive because that curvy build signified wealth and opulence.

People can be raised and taught to see almost anything as attractive. Aside from things which are signifiers of ill health like disease or dramatic asymmetry, it's all pretty arbitrary. I don't find black women to be very attractive for the most part myself, but I recognize that that's just personal bias on my part. Neither better nor worse than anyone else's personal biases in that sense.

There's a difference between a fat fuck strictly training to lift as much weight as humanly possible and someone who trains in fighting, acrobatics, weapons, endurance, durability etc; apart from being a mutant, meta or whatever.

Not the average part timers I'm talking about the dudes who are at the top of their disciples not exceptions. >There will always be artists who must draw every character as attractive or draws all faces the same.

Valid point. Look at Strong Guy in the early 1990s compared to today. He used to be legitimately grotesque; not just a large man, but misshapen by his powers into something kind of awful-looking. These days he just looks like a large handsome man with peculiar grooming habits. It was a gradual thing with each artist pushing him a little bit further along towards this point, but we got where we got eventually.

Not every hero is going to be fit. People dependent on physicality should 100% look fit. Of course that could be a runner build, long and lanky, a medium build or a big strongman style build. Lots of different body types there.

But what about a random teen who became a Inhuman or Mutant. They weren't training to be a superhero before. Many would be used to their comfortable sedentary life, instead of duking it out with bad guys.

Or a Hero that doesn't need physicals or is unmotivated. Does Iron Man need a six pack. No unless it is a six pack of beer. Should the mad scientist be spending a hour in the gym every day pumping iron, instead of building something. No not really.
>>
>>93221439
>Or a Hero that doesn't need physicals or is unmotivated. Does Iron Man need a six pack. No unless it is a six pack of beer. Should the mad scientist be spending a hour in the gym every day pumping iron, instead of building something. No not really.

He's had his armour fail, be damaged, destroyed, stolen or disabled enough times to know that he can't count on it all of the time. He needs to have a fallback plan for when that happens, and physical health is not a bad place to start.
>>
>>93221460

And without the context of what body types she's talking about, it really doesn't come out as all that bad.

If you're out to trigger some fuckers, you could point out Cho's diversity of body types that he draws.

>>93220848
Bertha of the GLA is the same build as never skipping leg day there. I think shark tits is also a similar build.

>>93221072
It's just that their idea of realistic is actually just morbidly obese. And sometimes with vitiligo.
>>
>>93221460
By that logic every Green lantern should have a laser gun as backup for the millionth time when their rings fuck up. However only Baz does, and it is a shitty Earth Gun.

>>93221475
There is a difference between in shape and a six pack. Stark has a busy social life, leading Stark International and superheroing. Same for a lot of other heroes who are extremely busy and might not need their physical stats that much.

Plus even people who need physicals can let them slip up a bit. Plenty of Cops and Military people get a bit of fat on top of their bulk. Or a lot.
>>
>>93221547
Oh yeah, I missed that part of his life. Yeah, the man who can calculate the angle of his kick in such a way to incapitate the Mandarin in a split second, the man who can be a CEO of a global juggernaut while super-heroing and still have his bussiness booming, the man who can find time to tinker with his suits while also doing all the other stuff, possibly can't find the time to work out...

Dunno if you've ever worked out seriously anon, but with just 4 sessions a week doing martial arts you will get ripped. An hour per day of MA & some working out with a balanced diet should have you looking as ripped as comic Stark and more. His body is not unrealistic.
>>
>>93221547
Because green lantern have a lot of confidence in the ring, Baz deal is that he could not trust it.

Also anon is not like the heroes can miss their social for the purpose of training/protecting the world.

We have seen avengers been trained in combat by Captain America and the x-men have a danger room, other reason why a character could be fit is to feed their own ego or show superiority over other, and let be honest there are a lot of heroes with superiority complex.

>By that logic every Green lantern should have a laser gun as backup for the millionth time when their rings fuck up. However only Baz does, and it is a shitty Earth Gun.

There was another Green Lantern back in the day named Jack Chance who carried a gun with him for the same reason. Also, back then the ring would flat-out refuse to perform any action which might kill someone, and Jack was a pragmatist that way. Frankly it just seems like good sense to have a backup plan.
>>
>>93221576
>>93221616

I'm not saying Iron man specifically has to be out of shape. But Every hero bar a tiny tiny minority all being in shape doesn't make sense.

Also this is getting away from the body shape OP. Iron man for example doesn't need to be big and bulky, and would go more for the diets and light exercise look. Still defined but not big. While Cap should 100% look powerful as fuck. While maybe another hero is powerful, but also likes eating. So forever bulking, aka lots of muscle but plenty of fat as well. Like a less extreme Kingpin look. Bear mode. Some of those are there, but there is no consistency as artists have heroes change shapes book to book.

Also set artist standards would stop Carol from going Butch, to pretty women to Dude. But also give her longer hair. The full body outfit can be kept as it doesn't matter too much. But the hair and a set body shape is a must.
>>
>>93221681
No arguing there, but getting bulky and ripped isn't hard enough for us normal people, so someone whose life is action-oriented 24/7, should really not be an out-of-shape slob.
>>
>>93221102
>unnecessary spaces

There's one anon who does it for every sentence, that's certainly unnecessary. But I only do it to break things up into paragraphs, like you're fucking supposed to. Nobody wants to read a block of text.

Faggot.
>>
>>93221692
But a lot of these people weren't action 24/7. Nuhumans should be roughly representive of demographics as they are basically random. So fat people, out of shape skinny people, manlets and people with health conditions alongside fit people. Same for Mutants.

They can then become fitter over time as they adjust to heroics.
>>
>>93220873
>fat super-heroes is an oxymoron

Well, there are a couple.

But yeah obesity is a metabolic failure state. Unless it's a feature of the character that they are physically unhealthy from a lifetime of americhow, it wouldn't really make sense.

Wait, I kinda wanna see a toxic avenger type character who has gotten the short end of every corporate evil inflicted on consumers, but the cross section somehow gave them fucked up mutant superpowers. Like how if you manage to contract every single disease, you become immortal.

I'm not necessarily going to say you're wrong, though it is funny to imagine trying to get this kind of consistency in a comic since even the most popular characters vary hugely in appearance from artist to artist.

However, can you imagine the SJW/Fat "activist" shit storm that would ensue if you had a bunch of new characters start off normal/chubby/overweight and over the course of a year brought them all down to looking athletic? It would be worth it just to hear the REEEE that was heard around the world.
