Is the Clone Saga really that bad?

It has its ups (Lost Years) and downs (Maximum Clonage).
It's worth a read if you have read Scarlet Spider (2012) and liked the great Kaine there (my case) or if you simply are fan of Ben Reilly in some way.

May's goodbye is still the best and more emotional story ever and it's part of the clone saga. It had its moments.
It's mostly a huge editorial mess
J. M. DeMatteis has a big write up of the behind the scenes until he left

TLDR
> All the Spider writers came up with the idea on a retreat
> The story was designed with a beginning middle, and end
> Ben becomes Spider-Man
> Peter goes off and has a family
> Tom DeFalco who approved the idea is replaced as Editor in Chief by 5 separate EiC's, one for each line
> New Spider editor made them drag the story out because it was selling
> Even thought the event was planned together, it was written separately so you had bad tonal clashes and miss information
> A bunch of last minute rewrites
