Spongebob is the only person who's dopey enough to work essentially for free (in fact occasionally paying Krabs to work for him), while still being damn good at his job.

Patrick would be an easy hire and could probably be convinced to work for nothing, but he's an utter idiot and would hurt Krabs' profits.

Most other people would actually want money, which just isn't gonna happen at the Krusty Krab.
