She left her job to get married. Odds are they figured they didn't want the financial burden of a third kid and by the time they were stable again and a good household the two they had were probably like 4-5 and they figured fuck it, may as well push them out to college and not drag out the job of parenting by like a whole half decade.

They're a newlywed couple who drops their kids off at the neighbors constantly. They'd probably rather be constantly fucking and having hobbies than having a third kid to keep track of.
