Why the fuck has no one killed the Joker?(only one I can think of is Supes but he turns into Hitler) There's never a good explanation given. I guess it would be pretty boring if he got shot in the face every iteration though.
>>
>>93187634
The official reason is "muh slippery slope" and "muh judge jury & executioner", which is pretty stupid all things considered.

I like the idea of a power vacuum in Gotham LEADING to the slippery slope argument. Like, news of the Joker's death creating a ripple effect where crazies come out of the woodworks and doing "edgy" crimes all over the place so they can be the new Joker. Like, all those over-the-top crimes that people make up for the Joker actually happening in Gotham all at once. Then, when Batman decides the city can't deal with a hundred wannabe Jokers, ends up killing them all, and the cycle continues.

Well, there are the Jokerz in Batman Beyond and all those cunts following Jerome in Gotham, so it's a fair point.
>>
>>93187634
Imagine how worse off Gotham would be if every miserable juvenile edgefag could look up to The Joker of all people as some "martyr" like he was a genuinely badass and stylish version of those Columbine kids.

It doesn't make sense with any real-world context, but I like to think The Joker's just a lightning rod to Gotham's worst potential, and for all the harm he's done his one saving grace is that he's still just a man, who can only do 'so much' at once. If he was somehow killed off, he could inspire hundreds of copy cats- and even if they could never hope to scratch the surface of his extensive legacy of villainy, the sheer volume of them alone would be like the Tsar Bomba dropping on society's infrastructure.
>>
>>93187586
I mean, it's justified in a few occasions. Like in ATLA, where Aang had been brought up a pacifist. He'd never killed anybody IIRC, and would only really fight if it was completely unavoidable.

But yeah, if the character is just gleefully kicking ass, and then cries over having to kill Hitler mc Eatsbabies, then that's bullshit.

Did you even watch the show? Asuka (to us) went from a regular old asshole to a mentally fucked, dependent, severely insecure shell of a human being whose sense of self-worth is tied completely to her job and the praise she gets from said job to feel like she's needed in life.

Even if she just stayed an asshole the whole show and didn't develop to us as a character in any way, it'd still be better than watching Rei, who's a boring lump of flesh that takes three lifetimes to learn the concept of free will.

The entire show was just Dipper bathing in love interests while bitching about how he can't get the one he wants. And then having nothing to do or say for those girls that could justify their presence. It's handling of the entire cast was a shitshow. Dipper got shit on for no reason, Mabel could do no wrong, no matter how dumb or reckless she got. All the other female characters were hardly existent past Dipper's hangups...
It was a dramaturgical suicide as everything happened only insofar as it influenced Dipper, only to make him put upon, then punish him for lamenting the cruel fate that befalls him. It's a big egocentric, self-hating wankfest of Hirsch. It's really, really all about him. That's why Pacifica just disappears and Mabel never gets called out. So Dipper can bear that cross some more.

Apparently, I am the only person on /co/ who hates this one.

>Character is a villain or does bad things
>Unwritten, mandatory law says they absolutely need a sad backstory or "woe is me" motivation for what they do.
>Most of the time, it's something cliche, like "I robs bank to save the orphanage!," "I kill people and take their money because his puppy has cancer!" or "daddy hit me when I was a kid!"
>Villains are never allowed to do horrible things because they are greedy, mentally unstable, corrupt, weren't disciplined as children or are just sadistic, which is usually the case IRL.

I blame BTAS Mr Freeze and Spider-Man 3 Sandman for starting this trend. Sure, I can get behind good people forced to do bad things out of shitty circumstances, even better when they are saved. But not for every single bad guy ever. In fact, this is so overrated, it makes me WANT criminals, murderers, rapists, thieves, businessmen and officials to be two-dimensional: especially since that's how they usually are in real life!

Please, someone tell me I'm not alone.

Not anon you're replying to, but lack of motivation =/= doing bad things for good reasons ("the ends justify the means" and all that).

A villain can be utterly unsympathetic, a psycopath driven to do what he does entirely out of sadism or evil, and yet very entertaining. That's why Ledger's Joker was so successful, or why the Red Skull is still Cap's primary antagonist, or to get into /lit/ territory Blood Meridian's judge or Macbeth are so liked.

>Character arcs that ruin characters
>Character arcs that leave characters the exact same

>Disappointing explanations to things better left a mystery
>Two unrelated characters who literally never interacted prior have a history together that is ultimately pointless
>This is revealed through singing, crying, and boring flashback

Oh, we're going with CWshit?
>a villain is hyped up to be the most dangerous threat ever
>has one cool scene and doesn't do anything cool until the finale where he dies like a bitch
Looking at you, Ra's

Has anyone done that but with a smart character who's foreign/an alien and not actually talking in English? Because it would be slightly funnier.

More like:
>male fans love abrasive, antisocial, nigh-malevolent and evil female character because she is female
Fuck, I don't even blame them. How often do you get a female character that's a 100% self-aware dickhead?

According to a writing teacher i had, you really need to do this kind of stuff if you want to sell

Like of course everyone here can understand the most basic sci fi terms as long as it s actually well written but some normies really need the translation

same teaher also praised the bing bong zimbawe theory for how simple the characters were

but yeah it makes me angry in devil survivor 2 fumi explains everything in such an easy to understand way and the game even gives you the option to say "yeah i got it" but as soon as you do that another character goes" hey you two brainiacs please explain it in english"

Something that is related to the first one, I absolutely hate suicidally disobedient children. You know, the kind of brat that is repeatedly told to never wander into the "Forest of 1000 Grisly Deaths", but does so anyway for stupid reasons.
>>
>no kill hero
>instead of killing people they just non-fatally injure them no doubt crippling them for life
>or leave people in precarious situations and they'll die eventually anyway
>or just straight up have the hero do things to enemies that would kill them anyway but make a point to show that the enemies are A-OK afterwards

half assed no kill characters are the fucking worst

Are there any modern shows who actually gave the douche what he/she deserved? If so, then point me to the most satisfying one.
