To be fair, other writers had already done that in the 90s. Morrison just brought the ruination to a whole new level. He not only ruined him, he outright mocked him and called him a pathetic relic and a loser, it was basically Morrison saying that Magneto sucks and people that think he's cool suck.
To Morrison, Magneto was just a mustache-twirling evil silver age villain with no depth.

I would say he was a revolutionary who realized too late that people didn't actually care about his message, he just attracted weak minded people that flock to violent strong-men. He ended up caring more about living up to his own legend than accomplishing his philosophical goals
