Azz's Ares isn't really a retcon. It never felt like a retcon to me. You can draw a line from Perez's Ares to Azz's Ares, insofar as you assume the god of war can get tired of war.

Fuck, you can even draw a line from RUCKA'S Ares, in his first run, to Azz's Ares, insofar as Rucka's Ares attempted to move beyond war and become the "god of conflict." One of Rucka's ideas is that the gods can change as the things they're rooted in change. Azz's Ares is arguably a play on that.
