I just finished watching the Spawn HBO series, and holy fuck was it good! I'd really like to get into the comics but I was wandering, should I start with the first issue? Or does the animated series do enough justice that I could start later?

Just read from issue 1. Some issues do go over stuff from the show but it starts to deviate pretty early on from memory.

Don't bother with the comics. They're not good, except for the guest writer ones, and half of those aren't reprinted anymore.
