Hola
I decided to read this because I realized Aquaman is the only one of the original JLA whose characterization I'm not really familiar with.

Ah yes, the unforgettable story of how Aquaman tried to fuck a dolphin when he was a horny teenager.
Also great write-up PAD did on his Aquaman run with a lot of very juicy tidbits:

So... are we talking Dolphin the character, or, like, an actual fucking dolphin?
This was three years after Atlantis Chronicles, where PAD established Aquaman's modern mythos.
I haven't read that either but my understanding is that doesn't focus much on Arthur as a character.
>>93168417An actual fucking dolphinNo, I'm not joking
>>93168465
Well, I suppose that could be said to be illuminating on Arthur's character...
Is there more of an absolute madman than the Trickster?
Not counting the Madmen of course.
>Speaking of sharks, I consider them to be one of my few true successes with the series. Everyone loved the way I depicted sharks: Big, dumb bruisers with a short term memory of about twenty seconds, and no interest beyond sustenance. A typical shark moment was a shark cruising along with the following word balloon: “Food. Food. Food. Food. Food. Hello, Aquaman. Food. Food. Food.” In their doofiness, they were almost loveable. It was a stark contrast to the rep of “evil monsters of the deep” they’d had since Jaws, and somehow it felt right.
So Aquaman seems to be a bit of a dick here.

Probably the Aquaman I'm most familiar with in terms of characterization is the one from JLA Year One, who has some similar aspects to this one so far but is definitely more of a nice or shy fellow.
And here we have the Trickster's Magical Mystery Tour, step right this way

Well, looks like a preview of what's coming up in Rebirth Aquaman
Quit aquasplaining, Arthur

Better.
Ironically WB is now trying to push GL as the lame one with the dumb Family Guy jokes. At least in LEGO Batman.
Time for dolphin porn
Kinda weird when you think about it, that a species evolved specifically to spend most of its time holding its breath.
Do they sell dolphin milk in Atlantis?
Texas Anon, I blame you for the image of Peter Cullen as a cowboy being stuck in my head.
Thanks for all the fish

If I were Peter Cullen, the first thing I'd do is ask DC if I could voice Swamp Thing.

Hoo boy.
This dolphin is a total Chad

Even with the pretty nonsensical story about Arthur trying to shag with a dolphin, this run is pretty dope, I remember liking it a lot back then.

Bears: the Sharks of the Land
Is this Arthur or Kamandi?
Man of Aqua-Murder
So we just skipped over the lighthouse stuff?
So David hates gypsies AND white men
Hoo boy
Cool middle school poem, Arthur.
>*record scratch*
>Yup, that's me
Tula ;_;
So now we skipped where Arthur finds out he's Atlantean?
I feel like I've missed a lot here.

Isn't she still around post-Flashpoint?
#rekt
>>93169642
She is now. It's good to have her back.
This art reminds me a little bit of Jill Thompson. I like it.
Garth looks oddly cartoony though.
Thanks for reading. I still don't really feel like I have a grasp on the character, but I guess I should continue on into the monthly series then.
I'm trying to take a bit of a break from internet stuff but occasionally I'll drop in to post something good.

thank you for the first issue of PAD's Namor- Still wonder what the artist and colorist were thinking, forgetting Namor's ankle-wings and making him blonde
>>93168579
remember, PAD never wrote Aquaman. He wrote Namor.

Autism at its finest.
>>93168639
Never read Johns' run then?
>>93170323
Nah, I've read Johns, Parker, Abnett and even slogged through Bunn's run.
I still don't feel like I can really directly define his character, though.
>>93169593
here Mera totally looks like Disney's Ariel
>>93169774
God, I forgot how much better Johns' version of Ocean Master was than PAD's.
>>93168413
PAD considers it his failure only because this version didn't stick and he didn't get to execute his ending. I personally loved this version of Arthur as an prophecised epic tragic hero rather than a standard John's protagonist. It also seemed like a natural development for Aquaman after everything he went through during the Bronze age. His Atlantis was also more fleshed out than anything that came out later. You should also read his Atlantis chronicles. It's one of the best things PAD has written, is better than his Aquaman and gives some perspective on his Aquaman run.
bumpo
The end.
