Whsat happened to Nicktoons, the old Nicktoons were great apealed to older audiences as well as kids and had good continuity such as Rugrats , Hey Arnold, As Told By Ginger, My Life As A Teenag Robot, Danny Phantom and Avatar, whilst today's Nicktoons have bad continuity and juvenile humor such as Breadwinners, Fanboy and Chum Chum and Bunsen Is A Beast
Agreed
Nickelodeon used to be good now it sucks

SpongeBob was both the best and worst thing to ever happen to Nickelodeon.

It wasn't just nick, it was all of Viacom.
Nick declined at the same time as Mtv, VH1, Comedy Central, they all went to shit and relied in a single show 24/7 or reality shows all day and night.
Now every one of those channels are banking on nostalgia and rememner the glory days of the 90's to stay afloat

I think the decline was that Nick seemed to shift focus from animation to tween oriented live action programs
It's the same reason Disney's television animation declined and Cartoon Network started to go down the shitter when they did CN Real
Writer's strike in 07 fucked a lot of things up.
Add in a recession with fewer people buying the tie-in merch, smaller companies folding, and lots of people losing their cable and you get channels losing money over and over again being forced to rely on the only few things that still do well enough to pay the bills.

Everything goes down the drain
Something that always stuck with me when I was younger was that my mom loved to watch the shoes with me. She wasn't the type to be "I'm too old for cartoons" or anything but she explained to me that a lot of shows back then had adult humor hidden in it. Not just LOL SECRETLY EDGY SEX jokes (because if it did she wouldn't have let me watch it) but the kind of thing that you could see in your typical sitcom.
It was so that all of the parents spending time buying cartoons and watching movies could enjoy themselves while blowing their money on kid stuff. There's also the stereotype of just throwing your kid in front of a TV to distract them so you wouldn't have to spent time actually raising them, but a show that entertained both parent and child creates a bonding experience. It was smart marketing and many current shows have lost for some reason.
Cyma Zarghami getting the presidential seat. She's the reason Nick killed themselves back in early 2006. As soon as she became president:
>Actually good shows like Avatar, Catscratch, etc. were treated badly, moved around different timeslots and (in the latter three's case) not given a chance to develop, then cancelled
>Terrible shows like Naked brothers band, Back to the barnyard, Tak and the power of Juju, and post-movie Spongebob were spammed every day for hours on end - especially Spongebob.
>SpongeBob entered full Zombie Mode with the second half of season 4 onwards
>Dan "The Man with the Master Plan to get her into My Van" Schneider took over the network and converted it into a "soft porn for ephebophiles" network
